4 week driving ban 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Turned 50 last week and celebrated by spending 4 hours in A & E on Sunday, having had an episode of "smeared" vision. Diagnosis is Transient Ischaematic Attack (mini-stroke) Hospital tell me a) no driving for 4 weeks, and b) inform DVLA. Former; O.K., will bite bullet. Latter; I'm going to wait until I've been to the T.I.A. clinic and had it confirmed as what it was. a) what (if anything) will DVLA do? -
Advice on a second car 3 Mar 2019 (Forum)
However I'm now looking at spending around £4.5-5k and getting a 1.6 petrol Nissan Qashqai. (2009 roughly). It'll just be for daily drives - so around 20/30 miles on country roads, and infrequently used for longer drives and on the motorway. It'll just be nicer to have the higher driving position and also not to have two of the same car really. -

Clutch abuse, or not? 24 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Hi, I was in the passenger seat with swmbo last night when I noticed her driving style with the clutch seemed unusual. We drive on a 70mph road before coming to a roundabout and taking the 3rd exit, so slowing right down. About 150 yards out from the roundabout she put her foot on the clutch, soon after put car into 2nd and then left foot on clutch all the way until she was hafway around the roundabout. -
Using your mobile phone whilst driving - New penalty points system 18 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Can someone explain the new rules which start in 2017 affecting drivers who use their phones whilst driving? Does this only apply to drivers who physically hold a phone or are hands free exempt? I have one of those clip on units which Bluetooth into my phone , which require you to dial up the number on the phone whilst stationary or taking a call on the move simply by pressing a button on the unit.. -
Nissan Almera Tino - is it okay to drive with air con compressor broke? 21 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I am thinking to perhaps wait to see if it gets through the MOT in November and if all okay then sort the air con, well get a professional I know to. Question is, will driving it with this broken compressor cause further damage? Could something overheat? -
Ford Galaxy - All Wheel Drive vs bigger engine on new Galaxy 24 May 2015 (Forum)
I am about to buy the new Ford Galaxy but have a dilemma. I want the most powerful engine but I would also like the All Wheel Drive option. However, for some curious reason you can't have the two together. I don't do any off road and am troubled by snow perhaps once or twice a year, but I don't really know if AWD has every day benefits that would be better for me than the extra power. -

Kia ceed - Recommend a car for 20K miles a year 21 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I will be doing alot of motorway driving and looking at drivingup to 20k miles per year. I would like to get a car that is less than 4 years old and less than 60K miles and deliver as high MPG as possible, doesn't need to be exciting to drive, but as spending most of the time in it would like it to be comfy for motorway journeys and fun to drive if possible.. -

Car is dated 1997. In 2010 it had a tendency suddenly to lose power while driving. Could keep going short distances but then lost power completely. Usually started again after 10 minutes to an hour. Symptoms of fuel starvation, but garage could not find problem, despite running Chrysler diagnostics. -

Driving over mini roundabouts 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Where roundabouts are only marked by white central markings cars often cut across the markings. I sometimes will on empty roads but some drivers will drive straight over the centre in heavy traffic. However the HC says you MUST pass round the central markings. "188.Mini-roundabouts. Approach these in the same way as normal roundabouts. All vehicles MUST pass round the central markings except large vehicles which are physically incapable of doing so. -

Return to driving after 17 years 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
However, given our village location and me working away, she has decided that it's time she drove again. My thinking was to get her enrolled at a local driving school again who perhaps specialise in this, I was thinking of doing this as an IOU Christmas present. Anyone got any ideas on how to proceed or perhaps a different way of approaching this? Thanks -
HGV driving for a year 30 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Lots and lots of websites out there all promising that with sufficient effort it's possible to earn £600/week driving HGVs (I imagine that's 50 hours+), is it actually possible to achieve this soon after passing the test? All these companies are trading under different names but are using the same website design and blurb, and none of them publish their prices on the internet, which seems pretty suspicious to me. -
Fine & Points for eating while driving 21 Jan 2009 (Forum)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7834611.stm It's a shame that these stories never give the information one would really like to have - in this case, was the ticketee actually judged to be driving without due care and attention, or not being in control of her car - in other words, was there any evidence at all other than the eating? This is why I was against, in a recent thread, the routine ticketing of drivers for this sort of thing.
