  • If the heater matrix in my Golf had packed up 22 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I'd be short of coolant wouldn't I ? Just trying to locate the source of a large puddle in the front passenger footwell after yesterday's heavy rain. Coolant level OK and the liquid didn't smell or taste funny. I've recently had the aerial replaced (it's over the nearside front wheel arch) and I'm wondering if that's been done properly.
  • Skoda Rapid Spaceback - Dealership is talking rubbish 27 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I would actually prefer to use a different word for them. Ongoing issues with the coolant levels in my 2 year old car.  After a service last month the coolant light came on.  Checked and  it was below minimum level.  Garage took it in and said it needed a new radiator but wouldn't know until they got it out whether it would be warranty or not.
  • 2014 Focus 1.6 Ecoboost recall 31 Jul 2018 (Forum)
We've just been informed by our dealer ( car was in for a warranty clutch assembly replacement ) that our Focus 1.6 Ecoboost is being recalled cue to a problem with cooling/coolant levels that could cause the head to crack. Just posting as a heads up for anyone who has one that hasn't heard.    17S09 – Coolant Level Sensor System Installation – 2013-2015 Ford Manufacturer
  • Rover 414 1.4 1994 - Possible head gasket 11 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Before she got the car it had a new radiator, and cooling pipes, water pump and thermostat.    However the coolant tank was always a bit murky due to a headgasket failure some time back in the 1990s at around 30,000 miles. The car has now done 62,000 miles.    the only other thing i have noticed is, that apart from some oil floating in the coolant, the expansion tank is now much cleaner looking, you can actually see the coolant in the tank now.
  • Peugeot 306 XSi - Overheating: head-gasket / thermostat / other? 30 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Left it for 4 hours to cool and carried out following tests: 1 - re-filled water-coolant tank, left cap OFF and started engine - left for 2-3 mins - water just constantly bubbling away at same level 2 - replaced water-coolant tank and started engine revving on-and-off for 1-2 minutes - water pouring out of overflow-pipe in side of coolant tank.
  • Renault Clio 1.5 DCI mk 2 2002 - Oil in coolant, what is wrong with my car! 21 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Three weeks later, the car starts first time and the engine seems to run fine. I am told that the oil has come up through the coolant. There appears to be no coolant in the engine when the dip stick is checked. There is oil in the engine albeit a bit low since it has escaped from somewhere! There was no warning of this, the engine did not lose power or pour smoke out the back, no engine warning lights came on either.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 Temperature Gauge and Coolant Leak 5 May 2009 (Forum)
OK, I will try to summarise the problem. I noticed the temperature gauge wasn't working, and then I noticed there was coolant on top of the spark plugs!!! So I took it to Ford, who fitted new ECT sensor, and also replaced the spark plugs and the cylinder head core plugs (was this necessary?), charging me £350 for the privilege.
  • a4 tdi coolant Sensor and Glow Plugs 14 May 2007 (Forum)
I have taken a look and checked all the coolant parameters and they appear to be reading correctly....does anyone know if the thermostat sensor is 'just for the glow plugs' Will it have any adverse effect if the sensor is disconnected whilst driving?
  • Megane Scenic - Head Gasket or not ? 1 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Upon checking my 1997 Megane Scenic 1.9 rtdt (97,000 miles) yesterday I noticed oil in the coolant bottle. Of course - heart missed a beat and immediately I thought head gasket :( However I'm not so sure. There are no other symptoms (no white stuff in the filler cap/dipstick), no 'bubbling' in the coolant bottle, and the oil in the coolant bottle is black oil - not oil and water .....
  • Ford Focus - leak after cambelt/water pump change 1 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I thought this was due to the mechanics scrimping on topping up the Antifreeze/Coolant after they can done the replacement. I decided to fill up the Antifreeze/Coolant to over the maximum level. I drove it for a week and noticed it had gone down to below the maximum level. Now considering I haven't needed to top up my Antifreeze/Coolant in six years, and now the fluid keeps going down after the cam-belt/water pump change - I'm thinking something is wrong.

  • Antifreeze compatible with everything... 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
In this weeks Autoexpress magazine there is a full page ad for "Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze/coolant up to 150,000 miles/5 year protection" and the ad says it is "Good for All cars, All models, and mixes with All colours of antifreeze". It seems too good to be true, a coolant compatible with the traditional bluecol, the red OAT, Subaru's green/yellow stuff, VW G11, G12 and the purple G12+, etc etc etc Anyone know about this stuff, is it really that good??
