Sneaky Cameras 23 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Painted dark blue, mounted on a tri-pod and standing no more than waist height behind a lamp-post was a temporary camera. It would have been very difficult for the poor sod who was flashed to see it, as it was neatly camouflaged among the surrounding street furniture. Nothing about his approach had suggested anything more than a nominal amount over the limit anyway. -
Speed camera error 26 Nov 2011 (Forum)
They go from 40 on the approach to a village, then 30, then 40 again. I try hard to stick to limits and was doing so on the day in question. I saw the camera, checked my speed and was happy that I was within a couple of mph of it. I can't remember whether the van was in the 30 or 40 stretch but I knew which when I went through. I have now had a notice saying I was doing 40 in a 30 area but I'm convinced they're wrong. -

Man 'cured' of speed cam phobia 3 Mar 2009 (Forum)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7919110.stm A Suffolk motorist contacted an enforcement agency to help cure his "irrational fear" of speed cameras. Colin Gant, 41, of Lowestoft, who drives more than 500 miles a week in his job, was forced to take detours to avoid the detection devices. He then approached Norfolk Safety Camera Partnership for help. -
Bizarre speeding excuses 3 Dec 2004 (Forum)
id=25 1 I had passed out after seeing flashing lights, which I believed to be UFOs in the distance. The flash of the camera brought me round from my trance. 2 I was in the airport?s flight path and I believe the camera was triggered by a jet overhead, not my car 3 I had a severe bout of diarrhoea and had to speed to a public toilet 4 There was a strong wind behind my car which pushed me over the limit 5 My friend had just chopped his fingers off and I was rushing the fingers to hospital 6 The vibrations from the surfboard I had on the roof rack set off the camera 7 I had to rush my dying hamster to the vets 8 A violent sneeze caused a chain reaction where my foot pushed down harder on the accelerator 9 There was a suspected case of foot and mouth and I had to rush to see the cow concerned 10 The only way I could demonstrate my faulty clutch was to accelerate madly. -

As the lights started their green->red sequence she braked from 40 down to the 19.2 mph that the camera recorded, but due to the closeness of the vehicle behind she decided that to brake any harder could cause an accident should the driver behind not be able to stop in the same distance on the wet road. -

Toyota Yaris - Speed cam shows my red car as white 20 Jun 2024 (Forum)
Just received a Notice of Intended Prosecution for speeding. 36 MPH in a 30 MPH zone, automated camera. I have no previous points history. A couple of questions: - My car colour is red. The pics on the Police web site look like my car, but the pics show a white car. Is this expected, due to limitations of the IR camera? -

Done in a Manchester bus lane? 2006-2007 19 Sep 2009 (Forum)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/8262904.stm More than 18,000 fines handed to motorists caught driving in bus lanes in Manchester were illegal, the local authority has admitted. The drivers were all caught out by cameras between October 2006 and May 2007 - before they were approved for use in bus lanes. Manchester City Council believed the cameras could be retrospectively certified - but lawyers ruled it out. It could now face a payout of more than £544,000 to drivers who were caught. -
Buses 'to become speed traps' 19 Dec 2008 (Forum)
See news story to right. Cameras to be fitted to the back end of buses to monitor people driving too fast/close, with a warning issued accordingly. A few questions spring to mind: The back end of most buses are so filthy, especially at this time of year, how would the cameras ever work? -

So we do have traffic police -- official 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I quote verbatim from a recording of the unappealing You & Yours consumer programme on BBC Radio 4, 19/01/06. Interviewer: ". . . but what about the argument that these cameras have replaced traffic police and that the cameras are missing some of the worst offenders . . . Steven Ladyman, "Roads Minister": "Well that's fallacious . . . We have record numbers of police involved in enforcing traffic offences at the moment . . ." -

Truvelo lines 3 Feb 2005 (Forum)
There is a Truvelo camera on the A56 leading into Manchester, on a slight downwards hill. Its sited just beyond a Fire Station on the opposite side of the road. Thing is, there are only three narrow white lines across the carriageway no more than 1ft apart.
