  • Poor fuel quality Kent SE England? Vol 3 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Automotive expert Professor Malcolm Fox, from the University of Leeds, said all the signs pointed towards some form of liquid silicone having got into the fuel. He added: "The analysis from the suppliers shows that the fuel is okay, so it must be a very minor, low concentration contaminant. "When it burns , it will form silicon dioxide and will deposit a very thin sheet on the sensor - the sensor is in the exhaust - and that probably gives a false signal to the engine computer."
  • When was ‘peak petrol’? 27 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I’m minded to say some point after fuel injection became standard, but before petrol particulate filters, an excess of sensors and electronic ‘stuff’ and before the recent oddities such as belt in oil cam belts. Perhaps the answer is a similar time period to ‘peak diesel’?
  • Citreon picasso - Advice on a car that fits 3 isofix 3 Jul 2023 (Forum)
Hi I currently have a bmw 1 series diesel 2016, it has been great, low tax, low on fuel and had no issues with it at all, so am I really sad to be having to look for something else but I really need a 3 isofix or 3 full adult seats at the back. Now I am looking at a Citreon picasso 2017, how fuel efficient are these and are they solidly built?
  • Missfueling Ad Blue into the diesel tank 26 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Apparently Adblue poured into the diesel tank causes a massive amount of damage to the injectors, fuel lines etc. A salutary tale but only 30 cases have been reported to the AA. A call to them before driving off would have limited the damage to a drain and clean ! Audi refuse liability as one of the fuel caps is coloured blue and marked Adblue but is adjacent to the diesel cap.

  • Toyota Auris Hybrid - Range Counter reduces using EV 1 May 2019 (Forum)
I don't understand how this can be. The range of the car at any one time is usually measured by the level of fuel in the tank. As the level of fuel reduces so too will the range, which is all common sense. Why then, if the car is not running on petrol, does the range reduce? I may be missing something here but I'm left quite curious by what I've observed.
