Parking sensors won't work - can I ask for a refund?

I bought a new Hyundai ix35 a few months ago from an authorised dealership. As part of the deal, I had front parking sensors fitted by the dealer, as they’re not standard Hyundai parts. However, upon collection of the vehicle, I found that the sensors were not working.

The dealer has inspected the car three times now, but the sensors still don’t work. At this point I no longer want the sensors, and am unwilling to add more miles to the car and pay for fuel to return the car to them again. What are my options? Can I insist on a refund and their removal? Do I have the right to any compensation for the wasted time and fuel spent returning this car to them to have the issue investigated?

The dealer has obviously cocked up in fitting these sensors and is therefore liable to get them working properly or foot the cost of you taking it elsewhere and getting it fixed. No right to compensation for wasted time and fuel unless you want to try to sue for it, but I wouldn't recommend it. Law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
