VW sharan A/C weak links? 24 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Was looking at a neighbours 3 Yr old Sharan last night, they were complaining that the A/C would not work, turns out blowers are not working as the 25A fuse had blowen, when this was replaced and fan started working again the air conditioning still would not work, the A/C fuses are ok but still dead as a very dead thing, when you start the car there is no compressor noise.... -
petrol pumps 20 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Has anyone else experienced the problem of displays running on after the nozzle has been put back into the pump? This is not an example of some old fart who cannot handle putting petrol into his car, I would like to know if anyone else has experienced the problem? -
High Mileage Bores 2 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I bet you know where to buy ex MOD wartime stocks of toilet paper of the greaseproof variety , which flushes beautifully even with the toilet cistern filled with bricks to save water. The old guy in the MacDonalds advert was modelled on some of you. -
Diesel estates 3 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I have just got a job with the option of a company car or to take the money and buy my own. I was looking forward to choosing a new or preferably 12 month old diesel estate. It appears that all the really desirable ones are only available new i.e.Rover Tourer, VW 130 bhp or Audi 130bhp. -
BMW 320D - Car wash damage 2016 13 May 2016 (Forum)
Hi all. I've looked at the old thread on this but can't see a definitive answer for the next steps so here is what happened to me. I used a car wash last week (always wash by hand normally but busy at work so ...) and after the wash firstly the car was still quite dirty but secondly the 'brushes' had swept scratches right down one side of the car! -
Environmental impact of new cars 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
How many miles do they expect a car to last when they calculate these figures. If everybody got a new car every 5 years then I think it would be more than 15%. I've just had a look at some figures, and it doesn't look like fuel consumption has improved much. -
Slowest depreciating car 24 May 2008 (Forum)
In fact her Focus is nearly 12 months old and has covered just 2,500 miles. But I'm now considering opting out and buying a slow-depreciating car. Wifeys Focus will pick up the reigns as primary form of transport and my new one will be our second less-used car. -
Ford Maverick I (1993 - 1997) - Problem with a car i've just sold 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The new owner performed an oil change last week and has just noticed that there is lots of oil in the coolant and is understandably a bit gutted about this, and apparently some brown sludge in the expansion tank. This is all news to me as I had not noticed it in the year I owned the car (i'm not especially mechanical though....). I obviously feel a bit bad because of the short time between selling the car and him experiencing problems, however it was an old car and only sold for £1000. -
Future collectible cars? 17 Mar 2002 (Forum)
However, what about some of the other things to do with keeping the car running? Just consider: 1. All petrol cars made since 1993 have cats and ECUs. So do common rail diesels. 2. Most cars will have ABS brakes (ABS pumps and ECUs, again). 3. Most cars will have quite sophisticated immobilisers. 4. -
Can an independent car dealer find you a car? 20 Oct 2023 (Forum)
What automatic cars some do have are either old like 2005 plates or they’re 100k+ on mileage. I know exactly what car I’m after a BMW 1 series, petrol or diesel, looked various models on autotrader and did insurance checks so to get a rough idea and I can afford it, since some of the BMW quotes were either similar or the same price as non BMW’s. -
Toyota Yaris - upgrade/change to bigger/newer car 21 Feb 2024 (Forum)
I am thinking about possibly replacing her for something newer, bigger, with a few more mod cons- I would like something very reliable, economical and preferably an automatic. I would like to spend around £10,000 max but could push slightly higher for a car that I will have for a long time. I appreciate the suggestions -
Mitsubishi - Insurance Issue after Accident 4 May 2023 (Forum)
My friend has no hire car as yet after 2 weeks and they are resisting letting him have one! He has been offered approximately 50% of what it would cost him to replace the car and his own insurance company are urging him quite forcefully to take an interim payment. -
Tiny turbo pops! 8 Sep 2022 (Forum)
Would I sink my money into one of these highly stressed tiny turbo motors? Nope, I’ll leave well alone, except maybe Toyota’s 1.2T. Again, when buying a used car, keep it simple. Had they opted for a basic old school 1.4 Corsa instead of the revvy wee 1.0 3cyl turbo it would more than likely still be running for many years to come despite the neglect. -
SEAT Alhambra - Exchange/swap 17 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I would be more than happy with a higher mileage early model (2010/2011) for around £150-200 p/m however I know dealerships generally only keep car which are up to 5 years old or less than 50,000 miles in stock. Can anyone point me in the direction of approved used models and advise as to how the process would go for someone in my circumstances? -

Ford ku - Gearbox replacement charge 27 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Apart from appalling customer service I have an issue with charges ford are trying to apply. In Feb this year I purchased an automatic 3yr old kuga with FSH and 17,500 miles on clock. Also purchased 3yr extended warranty. Six weeks ago whilst driving there was a huge bang under the car followed by rattling noise. Garage have said bolt has become loose which has caused irreparable damage to gearbox and gearbox casing. -
Mondeo 140 2.0 TDCi - Out of warranty - keep with main dealer servicing? 28 Sep 2016 (Forum)
My car is 2.5 year old and within a few hundred miles of hitting 60k and thus out of warranty. So far I have had it serviced each time at the same main dealer and have had no issues. Following advice here, I got an oil and filter change by a mate about 6k miles after the last service and plan to do that between service intervals from now on. -
Left/right dip headlights 22 Jun 2016 (Forum)
This could be achieved by rotating the holder about 15 degrees anti clockwise. Funny old thing, I seem to recall that some cars had a little toggle, years ago, which achieved just this effect. If changing bulbs was easy I would rather do that for a trip across the Channel than mess about with stick on beam deflectors. -
Audi A4 B6 Avant TDI - Random Alarm /Flat Battery 3 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I don't believe its the rear washers leaking into the lock switch, that has been fixed previously. Is there anyway that the alarm can be bypassed so that when locking the car the alarm doesn't set, as I'm having to leave the car unlocked at the moment. Any other ideas where I may trace this fault to, grateful for any help. Thanks! -
Vauxhall astra - How much use to keep battery charged 22 May 2015 (Forum)
I then give it a quick 10 mile trip and all is well for a week or two before it recurs. The battery is around five years old but the garage says it tests as being OK. We do have an intermittent yellow dash light that seems typical of aged Vauxhalls but I don't think that has any bearing on battery charging? Are we simply not using the car enough?
