Tokyo and Toyota 19 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The range topping and hugely conservative Century with 5 litre V12 is heavily reminiscent of something Boris Yeltsin would have trundled off to the Kremlin in rather than the flagship big brother of the S class-copy that is the CELSIOR (Lexus LS430?) I picked up a brochure for the CALDINA "touring machine" sports wagon. The top-of-the-range version comes with 4-wd and a 260 PS turbo 2-litre engine which goes head-to-head with Subaru's Legacy GT-B. -
All makes and models - All cars are unreliable according to this site 11 Aug 2016 (Forum)
I have even typed into Google ‘Most reliable cars’ and several sites always give their top 10 most reliable and least reliable cars and with consistency I read, surprisingly, of cars such as Peugeot, Seat and Korean cars being in the top 5 for the most reliable, along with Honda, Lexus of course, but this surprises me. What surprises me even more is that BMW, Audi and VW are always way down the list of most unreliable cars. Could it be that most of these sites cut/paste details off the Warranty Direct or Warranty Wise sites so the source of these so-called best/worst cars are all coming from one place and that WD and WW use all sorts of algorithms such as ‘cost to repair’ (which is why Bentley comes up as most unreliable car according to their site)? -
US September car sales sink dramatically. 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Toyota, which is battling GM for the crown of the world's best-selling auto maker, said passenger car sales fell 28% and SUV sales slumped 38%. Toyota division sales fell 36%, and Lexus recorded a 32% decline. For Toyota, the last five years have seen particularly rapid sales growth, as the company expanded in the U.S. and other overseas markets. But the past 12 months have delivered more bad news for the auto industry than anyone imagined, making it difficult for Toyota and other auto makers to use emerging-market sales to offset huge U.S. losses. -
2008 Motorshow- Good Bad and Ugly 30 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Top Gear stand was quite small, and not a lot happening, but did have the Police cars from the latest series. Funny part was, on the TV the Lexus looked like it had been professionally repainted in white, but standing close to it looked more like domestic gloss white, and am sure could see brush marks in it. Going home, we did get stuck in traffic, but did detour to show the girls Buckingham palace, but both were sound asleep by the time we got there. -
Mike Rutherfords Champions 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
And if one of the most intriguing, eagerly awaited cars of the year - the Fiat 500 - is as good as it's expected to be later this year, the Italian firm that makes it will deservedly receive its biggest boost since the glory days of the original Panda and Uno. Closer to the top of the rankings, Mazda and Honda are taking over from Toyota/Lexus as the makers of the most reliable cars. Nissan is another Japanese firm that impresses me - not least because it is building the sort of reliable, desirable 4X4s that Jeep used to make. Having dropped out of the premier league in the recent past due to silly but wholly unacceptable quality problems, Volkswagen is back in. -
Toyota Prius not rubbish to drive shock! 30 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Maybe Toyota should beef up the suspension, put in a slightly bigger electric motor, a six cylinder engine and market it as a fun product. Oh, hang on they do ? it?s called the Lexus GS450h. That must be really something! -
2 weeks in the US - observations motoring & other 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The Japanese cars seem to have a habit of getting a desireable European design and taking the styling cues and incorporating them into their vehicles. We counted numerous examples of Toyotas/Lexus and Accura/Honda aping 3 or 5 series BMWs. 9. As for European marks VW Jetta/Golf/Beetle were probably the most popular followed by a sprinkling of Audis, BMWs and Jags. Not one French vehicle at all. 10. -
Top 10 diesels on the market 11 Feb 2007 (Forum)
re still not quite sure what the Roomster is, but it?s brilliant. Invest with confidence in a badge that now rivals Lexus and Honda for rock-solid quality. The Roomster has all of the utility of a Citroen Berlingo but none of the odour of Millets. It?ll swallow a brace of mountain bikes without a whimper yet drives like a thoroughly modern hatchback. -
Peugeot Woes 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
. - From above the passenger door on the roof continuing all the way down the body work across the boot and down the rear of the car over the lexus lights until the bottom of the bumper were various deep scratches in the paint work. Also found on passenger door. - Right headlight was failing to work causing an awful sound when driving. - Chunk out of my alloy wheel - Scratches on the front bumper where they had the headlights out to realign. -
Why did BMW buy Rover? 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The options that faced BMW were to either buy an existing brand (or brands), or to build a new brand from scratch. The latter option, the route taken by the Japanese with Toyota creating Lexus, Honda creating Acura for the American market and Nissan creating Infiniti, also for the North Americans, was initially the route that BMW appeared to be taking. Spy shots and leaked information showed that BMW were at least investigating, if not actually developing for production, front-wheel-drive technology.
