The fact that so many well-maintained, nicely presented classic cars don't get driven quickly enough. That's fine, each to their own, but it really does make my teeth itch seeing classic cars holding up the moderns - when after all, we can pretty much hold our own on the roads. -

Chris Humberstone recalls that, ‘management problems within Rapport’ destroyed the project – and, despite everything, within weeks, the company had fallen into receivership. Only a handful of Fortés were ever built, but the car never died: it simply went into abeyance. Seinfeld collection fetches £15 million at auction 15 Mar 2016 (News)
Comedian Jerry Seinfeld sold 17 cars at auction for more than £15 million. The collection of classics, mainly Porsches, went under the hammer at the Amelia Island sale on 13 March. Cars sold from the Seinfeld collection included a 1959 Porsche 718RSK (£2 million), a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 (£1.6 million), and a 1990 Porsche 926C (£1.16 million). -

Regardless of age, cars tested in Brighton postcode areas tend to perform worse than the national average and, generally, the older the car, the worse it performs compared to the rest of the UK. Best performing manufacturers are Perodua (which is top, but with very few models tested), Lotus and Lexus. -

Audi rolls out ‘cam’ service 7 Aug 2012 (News)
The system gives owners a web page, onto which a short clip identifying the customer car, along with clips detailing problem areas are uploaded. The page is optimised to be displayed on both computers and smart phones, so it can be viewed on the move. The page can only be accessed by a PIN number unique to the car owner, and contains all of the clips of the car and the technician, along with a quote for the cost of the work and buttons to either approve or reject the work, or to request a call and discuss it further. -

Scrappage initiative is not a green one, says ETA 16 Apr 2009 (News)
Some of the suggestions the group gave for changing motoring habits included removing unneeded items from a car to minimise weight and avoiding sudden or harsh acceleration and braking. The ETA was established in 1990 and aims to raise awareness about the over-use of cars. It also tries to help people make positive alterations to their methods of transport. -
Stop-start feature 'would be welcomed by drivers' 29 Apr 2008 (News)
Most drivers in Britain would choose to have a stop-start system in their vehicle if it was more widely available, according to a new survey. Research from car supermarket Motorpoint found that 75 per cent of people would like such a feature - which cuts off the engine when it is not in use in order to save energy - in their cars. However, drivers in the UK feel that there are not enough cars on the market which offer the system - or at least cheap cars . -

MoneyExpert.com official Sean Gardner remarked that cost is not a valid reason for not taking out a car insurance policy. He said: "It's a real worry that many people persist in driving without insurance. They are putting the personal and financial security of others at risk." The Essex Echo has reported that police in the region believe a reason spate of registration plate thefts is being carried out by criminals looking to avoid car insurance and road tax costs.
