vw golf 4 1.9tdi 1999 - dual mass flywheel 8 Oct 2011 (Forum)
after having had a new dual mass flywheel and clutch fitted to my car should the pedal be very light (considerably more than before) should the biting point be towards the top of the pedal travel ie 3/4 of the way up and should this have affected my brakes making them less responsive / sharp. -
Mondeo LX 2.0 TDCi Estate - High pitched whine from Mondeo heater/aircon unit 6 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I have a really annoying high pitched whine coming from the heater/aircon unit which rises and reduced in pitch when I accellerate or brake. The only way to get rid of the noise is to turn the system completely off. Any ideas?? -

Vauxhall Vectra C - Warning light on auto shift 17 May 2010 (Forum)
When the car is stationary and the shift in either P or N a little red light comes on between the P and R position and goes off if I press the brake pedal. Is this just a status indicator or is it a warning? I am not clear from reading the handbook. regards, -

Clocking cars legally.??? 4 Jan 2010 (Forum)
If im restoring a car lets say a ford sierra cosworth and decide to fit a recon engine and box & overhaul rear diff and brakes and steering etc etc, & bring this back to showroom condition is it legal & would you do it to wind the clock back to zero mileage? Or just leave it with it's original mileage? which is probably around the clock which would have been a 5 digit clock back then. -

Skoda - 09 2.0 Keeping New Alloy Wheels Clean 22 Jul 2009 (Forum)
My new car will have a protective paint sealant (I know , probably snake oil) but the garage refused to apply the sealant to the wheels with vague caveats about the heat from the brakes. Anyone successfully protected their wheels? I'm thinking of just applying a decent polish like Autoglym as a way of fending of the black grot. -
Mechanical sympathy real and imagined 5 May 2009 (Forum)
Yet there are also apparently intelligent people who imagine that the anal, obsessive habit of pressing the handbrake button when applying the brake and keeping the car externally clean and polished are evidence of 'mechanical sympathy'. They probably think shaving keeps you healthy as well. Tchah! -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8 Rolling in neutral 5 May 2009 (Forum)
In slowing moving stop/start traffic I sometimes put the car in neutral and let it roll down, using the foot brake and handbrake to stop and start. My left foot is rested and so not pressing the clutch. This is a lot easier than constantly engaging the clutch in 1st. Is this detrimental to the car or fuel economy in any way? -

Nissan Primera (1990 - 1996) - 95 1.6LX Rear pads catching lip of worn rear disks 24 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I think this is what is causing my squeaky brakes. How much should a garage charge me to replace the rear disks? (the pads are new - only done last week) Is it possible to grind down the lip of the disk or is there another alternative? -

speed cameras on the A11 Norfolk 22 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Interestingly the two near disasters are caused by the speeding drivers noticing the camera van and panic braking. Perhaps this is a valid argument for actually concealing cameras link posted earlier on Monday http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=62445&m=713354&v=e add further comments there please -
Most astonishing thing seen while motoring 17 Apr 2008 (Forum)
what is the most astonishing thing you have seen when motoring? For me it was seeing a wheel complete with brake drum come bouncing down the road towards me like a world war 2 bouncing bomb. That and a bonnet coming open once and completely blocking forward view. I just remembered the farmer in a roadside field in Spain..... ;) regards -
