2002 VW Passat 2.0L 130bhp AZM Engine (petrol), Cylinder 3 Misfire, out of ideas 4 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I have completed the following checks and run out of ideas: 1) Cleared the codes and restarted engine. 2) Replaced the spark plugs with new ones. 3) Old spark plugs were in good condition with no oil, no deposits and the electrodes in good condition. 4) Checked HT lead condition and found no corrosion, a tight fitting cap and no damage to cable. 5) Earthed the HT lead and have strong spark when engine turns over. 6) Checked the injector electrical connections with a bulb tester and all is fine. 7) Removed the fuel rail and extracted cylinder 3 injector. 8) Performed a visual inspection of injector with all looking good and no blockages at the jets. 9) Tested the injector on the bench using a 12V battery to ensure it opens and closes correctly. 10) Replaced the injector in the rail and turned the engine over to check for blockages, with all injectors operating. 11) Swapped cylinder 3 and 4 injectors (misfire still on cylinder 3, no change) 12) Inspected fuel and air connections and ensured no leaks. 13) Checked the engine oil condition with no evidence of water contamination (head gasket) Any ideas would be most welcome -
Seat/Audi/Skoda. - Advice, what do you think is best? 11 Feb 2012 (Forum)
So I was wondering what you would do in this situation? Hold on or trade in? As a side note I am curently only getting 43mpg and my fuel bill is rising by the month (as are most) I pay £180pm in fuel alone so my next car would have to be more economical As for what car I am lookikng at Seat Exeo, Skoda Superb, Or even an Audi A3 sportsback petrol or diesel not really that bothered and it must be no more than 4 yrs old. -
2003 Ford Focus CL, Manual, 5D hatch - Acceleration issues 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
It's been to the garage where I bought the car 2 years back and they say they've road tested it and can't find a problem....they go on to say they can replace the fuel pump for $1500! I don't want to fork that sort of money out on a long shot. Any ideas on what the cause could be? -
Audi A3 - 05 Audi A3 2.0 TDI SE - Turbo & Emissions Control 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
When I was driving it home on the motorway I noticed it lost power (no turbo), was still able to drive it but no thurst even at high revs. I thought this maybe becuase the fuel was very low therefore I stopped at the fuel station and topped up and it has been fine since this 2 weeks ago. Problem solved I thought! Granted I have only been driving around town it it during the past 2 weeks it has been fine. -
Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 03 2.0 HDi SW SE - Non starter 9 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Has been problematic since the colder weather and is the same recurring problem last year whcih cost me over £400 in fault finding but no fault ascertained. More recently I have had glow plugs tested to be informed all OK, checks for air in the fuel system and the battery replaced. The breakdown guys believe it to be the low pressure pump in the fuel tank however garage says otherwise. How is it the breakdown mechanics can spray ether into the air intake pipe and it fires up? -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 1.8 Engine cut out - no spark ! 10 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I have had no problems before that. The engine turns over but won?t fire This is what I have done so far: Checked the fuel pump, it is priming Checked there is fuel getting into the cylinders (wet plugs and vapour when plugs are out) There is no spark (plugs out and earthed, cranked engine) I checked the coil and it had no continuity between 1 and 4, 2 and 3 are ok, so I? -
Renault Megane (1999 - 2002) - 99 1.4 Failing to start 31 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Any ideas on the problem, could understand if it was flooded once but its happening too often and is now in a position where seems it won't start first time at all. Makes no difference whether engine is cold/warm/hot. Could it be fuel pump?, air lock in fuel?, some sort of autochoke problem? They do have the exhaust blowing somewhere - could that be affecting the idle control/lambda/richness? Oh, it has no warning light issues (it doesn't have an EML). -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 96 1.8 TDi Starting problems 26 Sep 2009 (Forum)
:-( I'm not sure if it's the immobiliser or i've been told maybe the "lift pump" may not be pumping the fuel to the engine properly and all sorts of stuff and i don't know which one is the best to try troubleshootin first (or how to do it). Is it easy yo bypass the immobiliser to eliminate that? If the lift pump is the issue why does it work fine when the car is left for over 5 minutes? -

Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.25 zetec misfire/power loss - Help please! 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
After 2 months my clutch fully failed, this has since been rectified but around two weeks after that the engine seems to have lost power and is misfiring. I've fitted a new fuel filter and set of spark plugs, which has increased the engine power, however it still doesn't feel as good as it was. My main concern is the engine is now misfiring, both when running and when idling. -
Peugeot 306 1.8i 8v engine stuttering 7 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Engine mounts are sound, and nothing is obviously loose. Having purchased the Haynes manual, I see that the fuel and ignition systems are closed loop controlled by the ECU, with nothing I can adjust, but I wonder if this could perhaps be an over zealous fuel cut off, or pressure regulator problem, that I could easily fix by component replacement? -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1998 TD - Can a ECU be decoded from VIN. 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I'm sure there's a sensor somewhere that is not providing the advance solenoid with the info it needs to provide the extra fuel it needs when on boost. Many many thanks in advance. Martin -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 tdci 130 bhp, starting problems 10 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I've been reading the other posts but most others seem to have intermittent problems and the car starts ok mostly. I'm really worried a lazy tech will just say, "fuel pump" then it's not and i'll be a grand poorer and then he'll say "oh it must be something else" and pull my pants down even further. Thanks for any help guys slt -
Tuning Diesel Methods (How ?)& Insurance 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I know some power/torque increass are by increasing Turbo-Boost at lower revs One Co. advertises "Upgrade does not increase turbo-boost, therefore no extra load on mechnaical components". If it doesn't increase boost, how does it work ? Surely if it just increases amount of fuel injected, extra boost will be needed to provide the extra air required to burn the extra fuel, otherwise the engine will surely be running rich and emissions/smoke will greatly increase. I know some Co's claim they can modify the power characteristics depending on application eg. performance, economy or for towing, but how do theyir adjustments differ to suit each of these criteria ? -
4x4 bubble - will it burst? 7 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Unfortunately I don't earn enough to keep something such as a ML for ever, but, at the moment, can reasonably expect to cover my costs (including insurance etc) if I sell it back in the UK after a year (I am not allowed to sell any sooner) - in effect, getting free motoring less fuel, which is also a lot cheaper here than in the UK! Over the past few years I have done reasonably well with X5s and Volvo XC90s. However I read in the papers concerns in the UK about increasing fuel costs, road charging etc, and wonder whether in a year or 2 second hand prices will start to plummet. -

Petrol in a Diesel - how far will it go? 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Engine management light flickers off and on, first mostly off, but now mostly on. It sounds unusual, a bit "knocky" and driving it, it "feels" like a fuel problem, it goes then it doesn't, it goes then it doesn't. Vauxhall dealers plug into it and can't see the reason for the fault, and want the car back next week. I'm now totally unsure if I put diesel or petrol in (never had a diesel before, had this one about a month). -
Naughty dealer 17 May 2005 (Forum)
They'd also failed to notice an oil leak from the propshaft bit at the back going to the back axle, and that some of the work in the service hadn't been done. It was a 15000 mile service at the dealer, and oil, air and fuel filters should all have been changed according to the schedule. The oil's been done, but air and fuel certainly haven't. The plugs are also to come out for a looksee and clean, and they haven't either. -
How do I get better fuel consumption 3 Jan 2005 (Forum)

The cheek of it! 6 May 2003 (Forum)
The scratch is quite long, but I think most of it will polish out, which I would prefer to a resprayed (pearlescent paint) wing. The section that won't is the fuel flap, in which the scratch is indeed a scrape, horizontally along the middle. Hopefully Volvo can sell a prepainted fuel flap, but if not, repair (fill and feather spray out to the shut line) should be easy and 'invisible'.
