  • Peugeot 306 HDi 2.0 (2000) - 306 HDi...possibly a dumb question 9 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I have a 306 which wouldnt start, I ruled out the LP pump by powering it via a sealey power probe and a spare battery and the car starts and runs fine After looking into common faults with this model and bearing in mind I probably know less about cars than the average 6 year old girl this might be a world class dumb question lol So far I have figured out the following The fuel on is pumped by the LP pump in a circle back to the tank and the HP pump takes only the fuel it needs The LP pump primes for 10 seconds in the pre ignition phase to allow for a car thats run out of fuel but runs constantly once the engine has started So rather than finding the fault thats stopping power from getting to the LP pump which icould be the pump relay, the connector, the wiring itself an ECU output or maybe even the emergency fuel cut off solenoid (its a diesel so not as risky as a petrol model) what, if any are the downsides of just powering this pump from a 15A supply that becomes live with the ignition?

  • Peugeot 306 - Pug 306 1.9td rough running, white smoke etc... 29 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I have taken off the injectors and had these tested - no problems, I have also put on a clear pipe off the fuel return from the pump and there is no air in the fuel. On taking the intercooler off there is some thick gloopy oil in the air inlet, i guess that this is from the turbo, which hasn't worked since i got it, but don;t think that this would cause this problem?

  • America Unchained 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Only watched it by chance as was a film by Dave Gorman, whose work I have always liked as seems to act out ideas thought out in the pub after quite a few drinks, but does go through with. The attitude to the customer was astounding to see. As they were not buying fuel from the chains, inevitably it meant running out of petrol (especially as the fuel tank was not as big as they had been told by the seller). In one case the owner of a fuel station drove out 5 miles with a can of fuel to get them into town to fill up, and expected no money whatsoever for this.
  • Fuel Consumption (again) 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Well, she replies, for the last week and a half you have been driving so slowly and carefully, never going above 60 mph on the motorway, freewheeling every time we approach the hill back into our village, and you always take the Saxo when you are going short journeys now! Sheepishly, I had to confess that I was trying an experiment with fuel consumption but in my heart of hearts I did not realise that my whole driving style had changed! I don't think I will make a very good control for scientific experiments! As a postnote, I did fuel up again and had averaged 49.8mpg but whilst putting Millers in my tank I realised that I had also only put in 1 measure which was for 20 litres, my car takes 60 litres!

  • Ford S-MAX - White smoke from under bonnet. Losing the will! Please help :-) 25 Feb 2023 (Forum)
When I got the car back there was diesel leaking. He assured me it was just where he had to remove the injector and fuel had dropped down into the belly pan underneath and was simply spilling out whilst I was driving. He jet washed it all out. I had the car back and drove the car 10 miles but then white smoke was coming from under the bonnet and it was clear there was a fuel leak.
  • Shafted by Small Call Dealer? 28 Aug 2022 (Forum)
As I expected, the car was quite mucky with patches of rust around the doors but that didn’t bother me. However, after putting in £20 of fuel, I noticed a strong smell of petrol when I drove the car. Had it checked by a reputable garage and they have told me that: 1. There is a split in the fuel tank seam. 2. The front subframe is rotten. 3.
  • Kia Niro 2018/68 - Fuel Consumtion of PHEV 5 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I have been running one of the above for 2 years now and find the car superb in every respect. I see there is quite a lot of discussion re fuel consumption of PHEV's. Obviously, the more miles you do on electric, the better the overall result will be. In the real world though, motorway and long distance driving does crop up. We do approx 10000 mpy and our crude overall consumption is 90 mpg.
  • VW Sharan 2007 2.0 diesel - Fuel / strong smell in VW Sharan without engine ru 5 Dec 2019 (Forum)
For the last week we've noticed a strong smell in the car when the car has been parked overnight or even left for 2 hours with doors closed.  It smells like a fuel smell but I suppose it could be something else.  When the engine is running it doesn't seem as bad but that could be the fan clearing the smell away a bit.  The smell is so strong you can feel it in your lungs , and taste it in the back of your throat.
