Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - Most luxurious and comfortable car for 10 - 12k? 17 Jun 2008 (Forum)
:) The company has a 4 - 5 year old car rule so I really cannot get anything pre 2006. Thanks for reading, these forums are really useful! -
Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - S-type - good deal? 16 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I'm toying with a very late S-type diesel. The car I've seen is in sport guise, no chrome, very smart dark colour an cream leather inside - lovely! It's only 9 months old, about 13,000 miles, cost new about 30k. Now going for under 20k, it seems the XF has hit residuals of the S-type. -
Memories of `fantastic` cars (rose tinted glasses) 12 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Over the Snake Pass in that wonderful old charismatic motor, which felt like it would do twice the speed of any previous car experienced. The shock was looking up the facts today (wikipedia) 3,622cc sidevalve v8, top speed 82MPH, 0-60 = 20.5 seconds and 17MPG Contrast that inefficiency with figures from today. -
MoTs every 2/3 years instead of annual inspection 11 Feb 2008 (Forum)

Dodgy salesman!! 28 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I went to a well known car supermarket in the Midlands today. Me and Mrs MLC had a look at a few replacement cars for her Fiesta. One car we looked at was on a 55 plate, 19000m and theoretically had a over a year of warranty left. -
Increasing car size and road congestion? 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Does anyone know of any evidence or figures to support this? The gist is basically this: It is commonly known that cars in the same category have got bigger over the past few years. For example, a 1980s Ford Escort hatchback was 4.013m long while a Focus II, Ford's current class competitor is 4.342m long (nearly 13" longer for the old timers ;-) ). -
New Car Recommendation - Meriva? 16 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Friend currently has R Reg Scenic, looking to update car. Only her and her 2 year old son although sometimes carries her elderly parents. Majority of time car is used for her 2 mile round journey to work. She wants to retain the high up seated position, wants to spend about £5k over her own car (guessing at about 2k trade in), so total spend £7k. -
Free Xsara Picasso? 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Mrs V and I are in the process of looking for another car to replace her trusty Felicia now she's passed her test and is starting to take the kids out more. Out of the blue, someone has offered to give her a 5 year old Xsara Picasso. At present we don't know anything much about the car, except its colour, the fact that it's only had the one owner and it won't be available until the end of the year but what are these cars like to drive, maintain and insure? -
Running in a new yaris 1 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Firstly, apologies if this is covering old ground again: SWMBO's younger sister has just been bought a new Yaris GLS for her 17th and is currently learning to drive in it. The car cannot have done more than about 150 miles at the mo. My personal feeling is that it would be best to get the car run-in decently before letting her loose with it, certainly I can't imagine that being run in by 600 miles of low-speed, overly jerky, learner-driver standard driving will be doing the car any favours. -
Peugeot 508 1.6 THP - Is this a bad idea? 24 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I was however disappointed at just how tight it was in the back compared to an old Mk2 Focus we once had. Whilst the sales guy was away getting keys I noticed a Pug 508 saloon 2011 plate with a sticker price of £6995. I guessed it must have a really high milege at that price but no, a mere 27K. -

Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 00 1.2 Electronic Fault Light & engine problem 23 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I've had a good look in the engine bay, looked in the fuse box for chafed wires and wiggled all of the looms I can see while the engine is idling normally to try and induce the problem but no luck. The Clio is an old style Clio II but with a 16v 1149cc engine (apparently the old style usually have the 8v engine). Can anyone suggest a way forward with this, its been to the garage a few times recently (head gasket, water pump, coil pack and MAP sensor replaced) but I'm not overly happy to chuck more money at it. -

Lizard on a hot rock - heaters good and bad 2 Oct 2009 (Forum)
There were years where I could walk down the drive in a T shirt at -5c, get into the car and radiate my own heat - courtesy of being almost 15 stone. Much trimming off though, under 11 stone and a decade older - I`m like one of those lizards you see coming out of the sea and seeking a hot rock. -

Can't get £20 oil change - unlucky or sinister 12 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I found a second branch (2) who reluctantly insisted I be booked-in for a Tue/Wed/Thu morning only. Did that and got my oil and filter done. Cost £21 and good old gravity used to drain-off the old oil. This year, branch (1) says: "Nah! mate, the pump we use for the oil's broken. Nah - dunno when it's gonna be fixed." After a year! Branch (2) says: " Nah! we've run out of oil - it might be in stock next week or the week after" I popped into Kwik-Fit: "We used to do them, but not now - you need a proper service technician and he has to look all over the car for a couple of hours. -
Worthing A24 Roundabout Madman in 1980's 9 Aug 2006 (Forum)
In the late 70's /early 80's my grandparents would take us to the coast for the day or weekend in their campervan (An old Bedford Dormobile) Does anyone remember a strange old man who used to stand at the A24 roundabout just outside Worthing at the weekends ? He would have a sit-up-and-beg bicycle and on the back of it a stereogram playing Jazz, and he would have a cigarette holder with which he would conduct the music and wave at the cars as they passed He would frequently be wearing a bowtie/dinner jacket. -
Mini TLC servicing - what is missed? 11 Feb 2006 (Forum)
A friend has a mini, bought at 6mths old and 5,000 from BMW Dealer (ex-demo) it has the TLC cover and has been serviced by a another BMW Dealer @ roughly 20K & 35K miles. It is now 3 years old and needed an MoT and they take it to the local friendly independent round the corner and it fails.
