  • Ford Mondeo 1 (1993 - 1996) - 96 1.8 Diesel will not turn off 14 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Friend's high mileage 95-96 Mondeo Diesel now will not switch off, unless stalled in 5th gear. Suggested Cause : Solenoid buried in fuel pump gone... Part cost is less than £30, but labour quoted around £600 at indep. garage... Does anyone know how big a job (hours) this is? Is it cheaper/quicker to get a whole fule pump assembly from the scrapyard or recon outlet and replace the whole thing?
  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - 03 1800 Misfire in Cylinder 4 5 Nov 2008 (Forum)
When the engine is left off for a while, the check engine light also goes off. Diagnosis indicated ''Misfiring damage and Insufficient fuel on cylinder 4''. I have since changed the coil and spark plugs but the problem recurs. Anyone who can help?
  • Vauxhall Combo van (2002 - ) - 02 1.7 di sluggish hesitant 2 Nov 2008 (Forum)
van seems to be really sluggish and not a smooth power flow at higher revs mainly in 3rd gear. sometimes at idle the revs fluctuate. i removed the vacuum pipe going into the egr valve solenoid on top of the fuel pump then drove it around the block and there were no difference whatsoever. does the mean the egr valve has gone? by the way the vacuum pump is working fine as it is hissing really loud when pipe is unplugged.
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - How much is this work worth? 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)

I get the feeling my dad is being made a mug of with the price and the list of work ( initially just in for a small service ) but ive stopped short of telling him as he is stubborn.

  • Surge in second-hand CRVs for sale 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It has gone from a handful for sale within a 60 mile radius of myself to close on 60 or 70. I can only assume it is because of the tax hikes and/or the fuel? Anyone else noticing this? Btw, I haven't checked other 4x4s in my area. T.
  • Peugeot Partner Combi (2001 - 2004) - forums/info sites for partner/berlingo? 4 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Where are the best forums/info sites for these vehicles? Also, I seem to remember a recommendation that the whole fuel filter assembly be changed rather than just the filter element. Is this the case? I stopped at a (rather unimpressive) dealer on the way home and bought a set of filters but they insisted that there was no need to do other than change the element.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 05 2.0/130 TDCi - dip clutch, engine cutting out 23 May 2008 (Forum)
Once, coming to a halt, then a second time when coming to a halt after reversing. On second occasion, glowplug light was flashing until I re-started the engine. Had an exchange fuel pump 6 months ago - What do you reckon: pump or injectors? Would appreciate any comments.

  • Traffic Lights on M4 Slip Roads 25 Apr 2008 (Forum)
They started working this week (junction 7) and are a complete waste of time (IMHO) They turn to Red, for about 30-40 seconds, then change to Green for approx 5-6 Seconds, then straight back to red I had 5 cars in front of me and it took 3 phases to get onto the motorway. It increases fuel consumption (several quick accelerations), and my stress!!! Did we ask for these? Was there public consultation?

  • "Black boxes" in vehicles. 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
In the event of a crash, it freezes and stores the information at the point of impact, giving the car's speed, engine speed, the angle of the brake and accelerator pedals and what gear the car was in. As it detects impact, it shuts off the fuel tanks, helping to prevent an explosion." Full version: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/02/nblack102.xml
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2004 mk1 1.6 - any good? 2 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Recently I have been trying to decide if I should get a pre 2004 1.6 focus. All the sites I have been on have been a little vague on fuel economy and performance. I want a car which is fun to drive but not to thirsty. Could any owners give me a heads up on these issues or would a pre 2002 fiesta be better! Is the zetec focus better than an LX, whats the difference in performance and costs.
  • Warming up a diesel? 11 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I've had conflicting advice on how to correctly warm up a diesel engine. 1) change gear at around 2.2k rpm 2) change gear at around 3k rpm ... changing at 3k does make it warm up a lot quicker and even improves fuel economy but i was told not to rev too high or hard until warm. My engine hits max hp at 3.6k and drops off at 4.2k so 3k seems high to me especially as max torque has been and gone. As you can see i do care about turbo health :)
  • Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - mk3 1.7 td hard to start & stopping when driving 30 Jan 2008 (Forum)

  • Looking for a luxury car for £12K 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The car needs to be spacious, extremely comfortable, have a very smooth and refined ride, near-silent in the cabin at motorway speeds and have a few toys like climate control, satnav, etc. It needs to be reliable (3-4 more years without any issues). I'm not bothered about fuel economy or servicing costs. So, can I get luxury motoring that meets the above for £12K? Which make and model should I be looking at?
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2000 - HDI Diesel that kangeroos in the wet 15 Jan 2008 (Forum)
As soon as it gets wet, the engine management light comes on and the engine split second cuts out intermittently when driving. Fine when idling. Local Peugeot dealer states replace some sensor on the fuel pump at a cost of £500. Surely if the sensor was faulty it would do it ALL the time not just when it's wet. The dealer re-sets the management light and the engine runs fine again.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - Engine flushing & oil changes - how often? 8 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I change the oil every 6th month and oil and filter, as well as an engine flush every 12th month on my vehicles. I use - diesel fuel (may shock some...) as an engine flush. What do you do? My last car clocked 200k (from new) and is still going strong. So it (diesel as a flush) cannot do the engine any harm!
