  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - PDi 130 Sport - Cambelt and drive belt change 14 Oct 2007 (Forum)
    Plus I have had alternator warnings flash up and the power steering shrieks on full lock , which sounds like the auxillary drive belt to me , how often should these be changed and is it worth changing all the drive belts if having cam belt done? {model details added to header}
  • Most economical way to drive a diesel? 2 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Having recently read in the paper and Auto Express about some chap who devised a way to drive petrol cars more economically, by accelerating flat out upto 2000 rpm in each gear then changing up, I was wondering what the most economical way to drive my diesel car (1.5dci Megane)? The article in Auto Express stated that because of the differences in the fuel injection systems between petrol and diesel, his method didn't work with diesel engines.
  • EU Driving Licence 25 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I have received confusing information form DVLA and other sources regarding the use of an EU driving licence whilst resident, i.e. not visiting, in the UK Some say you have to excange it for a UK licence within 3 years and some sources suggest you can drive on it until you are 70. The DVLA site is confusing and speaking with them at some length both face to face ( Visit ) and agin today by telephone give different results.
  • passat front suspension/drive noise 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
First noticed it under braking but checked it over as best I can and can see nothing obviously amiss there or with any of the rubber bushes. Noise is now there under drive and I think worse when cornering left. Does this look like a cv joint, are there any common passat suspension/drive issues to look out for? Thanks willyb
  • economical driving 31 Jul 2003 (Forum)
yesterday i took my astra 1.4 to manchester airport, I spent £6.50 on fuel,72p a litre and i covered 98 miles till the fuel warning light came on, on the motorway i was travelling an average 62 m.ph, i reckon for a petrol car with four adults my car gave about 45 mpg, question to you guys is it more economical to drive at a constant 60 than go flat out 80-90 mph, saving time, but would i still be driving economically at faster speed?
  • New law? 30 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Has a new law been passed whereby if you are a man aged under 25 you must wear a baseball cap whilst driving and drive like a complete a***hole (usually in a Vauxhall Nova or Corsa with ridiculously oversive alloys and rear spoiler). I know when we were young and first got on the road we all liked to drive as fast as possible but soon learned to calm down if we wanted to stay in one piece, but it seems that driving standards of the young seem to be getting worse not better!
  • A pint for the road? 11 Jul 2023 (Forum)
For those of us that like driving to a country pub, having a pint (usually with a meal) and then driving home again, that could be a thing of the past, if the government decides to follow the recommendation. I hope they don’t… https://www.thesun.co.uk/health/22923473/doctors-campaign-lower-drink-driving-limit-alcohol/amp/
  • Swiss Vignette - driving through Switzerland 23 Jan 2023 (Forum)
Happened to be watching a YouTube video, noticed the driver had to buy a Swiss Vignette to be able to drive on Swiss motorways. It costs £45.  Is this a form of car tax for foreign on all vehicles? Lots of European countries seem to be introducing some of sort of scheme.....
  • Right of Way at Drive Crossing 7 Nov 2018 (Forum)
My understanding is that at a normal drive crossing (where the vehicle crosses dropped kerbs to cross the footpath) the pedestrian has priority.over vehicles, At a crossing where kerbs intersect the footpath and the pedestrian crosses the dropped kerbs, it is in fact an access road and vehicles have priority.
  • Drink Driving - Time to Copy Scotland and Europe? 12 Feb 2018 (Forum)
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/legal-motoring-advice/2018-02/government-figures-show-disturbing-rise-in-drink-drive-related-deaths/   Surely the limit must be reduced at least to match Scotland, and for new drivers to Zero as it is in Europe.

  • Reliant Robin - How do they handle? 20 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Just curious...since these cars are missing a wheel, does that make them harder to drive?  Do they tend to tip over?  When driving them do they feel like a normal car?  I've never had the privilege of driving one.
  • Any - A visitor's view of driving in the UK 25 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Here's an alternative viewpoint on driving in the UK, from the editor of the Aussie web magazine, Autospeed. He reckons us Pommies are (on average) better drivers, and faster, too. http://blog.autospeed.com/2013/01/19/3500-kays-in-the-uk/
  • Keeping a car on the drive 13 Feb 2011 (Forum)
If keeping a car on the drive does it need to be taxed and/or insured. My better half reckons law has been changed and it does! I won't go into the circumstances unless its needed but its likely to be there for a few months and won't need to go on the road during that time.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace II (2008 - ) - 09 1.6 Headlamp adjustment for continental driving 6 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I'm trying to find out how to adjust the headlights for continental driving. I'm not finding the handbook too helpful. Is there a lever, or is it a black stickytape job?

  • Lexus Driving Day 27 May 2006 (Forum)
I've had an invitation to pop along to a Lexus promotion day. It's hosted at a stately (just up the road as it happens) and allows you to test drive a number of cars from the range. It's tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes. _______ IanS
  • Driving with courtesy lights on 28 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Last night the kids put the rear courtesy lights on in the car and I told them to put them off as it was illegal to drive with them on. This was what I was always told by my dad for years, is it true or did he just not want me reading in the car at night?
  • Music to drive to? 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
This thought was sparked by the appeal for opinion poll subjects: Do you listen more to Radio, Tape, CD music or CD books? What's your favourite track/artist to drive to - I love a nice windy back road and Meatloaf blasting from the stereo. What's yours?
