M reg 1.4 Clio high fuel consumption 15 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have had my 1.4 clio single point injection manual for just over a year, when i bought it i woulkd get on avaerage about 350 miles to a tank just under 10 miles to the litre. it went up to nearly 400 on a long run. the car has been used for commuter runs 20 miles each way and the fuel economy dropped. i put this down to the cold weather and reasonably short trips. then the exhaust system went which i have replaced fully all 4 sections including the cat. i have just done a trip to scotland from essex then down to cornwall, on the way to scotland i managed 280 miles to the tank full!! -
Warranty & its distortion of car values 31 Jul 2004 (Forum)
It's quite clear that a reasonable number of BRers buy new cars & run them for 3 years until the warranty runs out. Very sensible. You always get to run a nice new shiny car (Huzzah!) & you know that you will never have an unexpected bill in the unlikely event that something goes wrong. -
Motoring in the cheap lane. 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I admit to being a bit chuffed to have picked up, what I consider to be a bit of a peach......it's astoundingly clean, having been cossetted, garaged, serviced every year, and has :- Central Locking, Electric windows, Power steering, Sunroof and runs as sweetly as you can expect it to run. It's had a recent battery, stainless exhaust and (premature?) clutch. Admittedly the radio's on the blink and the air conditioning........OK, so it hasn't got air conditioning. -
Buying new cars is a bit like smoking 25 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The mortgage is paid off early, the kids have left home, start your retirement early, or work part time, or work beacuse you want to, not because you have to. Running a new car costs more than a mortgage {except in London perhaps}. We only live once, better to run old cars and have time to enjoy life than to go to work for long hours simply to pay for a fast depreciating lump of soon to be scrap, parked up as you are working. -
