I wondered lonely as a cloud, past ugly motors.... 21 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I wondered lonely as a cloud by ugly motors large and loud All gas guzzlers plain to see waiting for a monster fee Wheels to grace a road going tank tyres to bust a modest bank in your face with lack of grace dominator`s of rat and race puff and pomp, supercilious glance a personal lack below perchance? Six, nay, eight, cylinders roar as Egbert peers, over the door Air-con on, to help survive bacteria out, to grow and thrive A road hump shunts and shakes the liver and Egberts knees are all aquiver The Wobble Master lurches on But, `t schools runs over and the con Cos, small is good and big is bad you know it is, it`s not a fad So snort and pomp and gloat at leisure till, Gordon hits you with his measure. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Which to choose 20 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Currently have a Skoda Octavia Ambiente 1.9 TDi very happy with the car but would like to change from the Skoda Octavia. I have got three choices in mind, Mazda 6 S Diesel, Seat Altea XL XL MPV Diesel or new Skoda Superd S or another Octavia but the elegance model. Really fancy the Mazda as its a bit left field but would appreciate comments on all three cars. I do about 30,000 miles a year predominantly on A and B roads with not much motorway miles I can have all the usual Astra Golf Focus stuff as well but I have had these in the past so hence my rather odd-ball choices. -

New Tyres, advice please. 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I have decided that It would be best to just get 4 new tyres as the fronts are budget tyres and its a front wheel drive. Safety first and all that. I do not want Pirelli P6000's because of road noise. I was looking at some Khumo 769's which I can purchase for £45 each. With a budget of £50 per tyre (give or take a few pounds) What Mid-range tyres would you recommend? - Quiet good all round tyres. -
Help! about to view used car - best HPI type check 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I'm concerned that she may have bought the car on HP from the dealer and she could be leaving with o/s amounts due. I've no reason to think this - but I need to be sure with an HPI type check. What are the best one's? , are any cheaper than HPI? Do they all guarantee to pick up all o/s finance? The amounts are relatively small, the car is advertised for £995 (1.0 GX Micra / 64K P reg) so i'm guessing she paid the thick end of £2K last Nov, possibly in cash, but then again.... -
DIY servicing, power screwdrivers, tendon issues 15 Jun 2008 (Forum)
What`s best to buy? `Lectric screwdriver or bigger?. It occurred to me that if the power tool is heavy, it may be counter productive.... Its just repetitive forearm radial movements that are an issue, not whole arm leverage on big high torque nuts. -
Mercedes Benz - Decided to hang on to old car 7 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I had decided to change my old 'C' class Mercedes that has given great service for 4 years for a used 'E' class diesel but with the current promise of road tax hikes and fuel prices going through the roof I have changed my mind. My C class is reg in 2000 so keeping it will deny Gordon a few hundred £ s and I am no longer sure that diesel is making much of a saving. It,s 126p a litre against petrol at 115p round here so somewhere near 50p a gallon. Got the old girl serviced and through the mot with no bother and hope now to take the present 135,000 miles showing on the odometer to 200,000. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1.25 zetec engine Refit... N reg to an R reg. 18 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Hi all. my fiesta engine recently gave up on me and blew a piston. i have had the enigine taken out and i have aquired what i thought was the same engine from another fiesta, however there are parts on it that arent on my original engine. i have a fiesta zetec s 1.25. the new engine has the same zetec s 1.25 badge on it and i assumed it was the same... my car is a 98R and the engine was taken from a N reg. is there anything that was taken off the zetec 1.25 in the time between these two cars and will it still fit,,, its on its mounts and mostly connected but theres a pipe coming out the manifold thats not on my original engine and i dont know where to connect it?!? -
Should Fernando pay for Lewis' service? 17 Aug 2007 (Forum)
As Fernando is in the car during most of its use, Lewis thinks he should shoulder half of the cost, but Fernando thinks as it's Lewis?s car, it?s his cost. Billy {Car related, so kicks out of the IHAQ thread - DD} -

Volvo Auction Price Please 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Can someone tell me what the following is worth at auction please? Also what the work would cost to get done. Mondeo TD odd noise 12 May 2006 (Forum)
The car is a 2000 Mondeo 1.8 TD (one of the last of the Endura DE engined mk2's) The problem is an odd low pitched "chattering" noise coming from the cambelt / aux belt(s) area of the engine. It's most noticeable at idle from outside the car, although you can pick it up inside as well. -

Driving in the Rain 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Major gripes from this morning\'s drive into work: Why do people drive in minimal visibility with no lights on or sidelights only? Was the motorcyclist I saw without lights actually trying to commit suicide or did he think that everyone else had xray vision? -
VW Touran luggage cover 28 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I am thinking of buying a VW Touran and have a question regarding the retractable parcel shelf. I recently took a test drive in a petrol driven S model although I am thinking of buying the diesel Sport. The S model was an ex demo and one fo the first Tourans and the luggage cover was a tiny affair that only covered the small space if all 7 seats were up. -
Exhilarating car required 2 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Great value and build quality; a real rocket. MINI Cooper S? Value compared with Works; fun, MINIs a bit common. Well preserved Porsche 3.2 Carrera? Even more character, low depreciation; even older than 964, so safety issue greater (does it matter?); lots of grunt for 13 grand. -
Car losing it? Or bad driving? Fiesta. 25 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The ones on now are Firestone (no idea as to the model number) and the previous ones were Pirelli P500 Z\'s. Recently when going at high speed (usually 65 onwards) the car has occasionally felt that it\'s lost grip - so much so that you can feel it in the wheel and then it seems to grip again. I\'ve looked at all tyres and they seem fine - probably because they\'re relatively new. -
Triumph 2000 C.R. output etc 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I had remembered I thought that the Mark 1 had more power than a Mark 2, but ascribed it to the wrong reason. You were right, the Mark 2's CR is higher, but according to a very authoritative article by Chris Witor in the latest Six Appeal, the Mark 1's carburation and specifically inlet manifold give it a higher torque and power. Hence the slightly better performance from the earlier car. -
Tyre advice 22 Feb 2004 (Forum)
It's going to need two new tyres in the near future though, so I intend to move the front ones onto the back and get new fronts. It takes 205/50/R16's, and currently has Dunlop SP Sport 9000's all round, which have alloy wheel rim protector things on it. I've found these tyres for £87 at Mytyres, and the writeup on the test links they give make them sound pretty good.
