  • Ford Fiesta filler cap 31 May 2009 (Forum)
The current range has probably gone beyond that parameter and stands comparison with most other manufacturers' products, price notwithstanding. One small feature of the ongoing Ford range that has baffled me for many years concerns the fuel filler cap. As far as I can recall every Ford model over the past 45 years or so has had the fuel filler cap on the driver's side of the car with the sole exception of the Fiesta which, from its introduction back in the 70's, has had its cap on the nearside of the vehicle.
  • Citroen Despatch (2007 - ) - 04 1.9 diesel poor running 5 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I posted a previous question about non starting and had to resort to getting an auto electrician firm out to fix the problem after spending 2 hours outside my house on tuesday in the rain they decided to tow it to there garage where they claimed to have worked on it all day wednesday cutting some security device off the back of the diesel pump telling me on Wednesday eve that it also needed new glow plugs so it would run just right.Got it back today with £350.00 bill but it now has a different problem than before,it starts ok now so that problem seems to be fixed but it flattens out like you have run out of fuel at between 20/30 it is as if it is being starved of fuel temporarily then as you drive through it it springs back to life. I have spoken to the garage who carried out the first repair who says it might be air?
  • BMW 5-Series E34 (1987 - 1996) - 89 3.5 non starter, no spark 4 Feb 2009 (Forum)
went to start it up the other day and it just turned over and spluttered but would not actually catch and fire, my first thoughts were the engines flooded through lack of use so i pulled the fuel pump fuse and plugs which were black and soaked with fuel, i cleaned the plugs up and left them to dry for roughly 12 hours. before refitting i put a couple of drops down each bore to aid compression. after turning the engine over for a serious amount of time there is no sign of starting at all. so yesterday afternoon i pulled one of the plugs and earthed it to the block, upon turning over there is no spark. i have removed the dizzy cap and cleaned the contacts up and also cleaned the rotor arm as best i can (it doesn't look in the greatest condition but someone's stripped the allen key bolt holding it in so ill have fun trying to remove it later) but would either of these parts just fail from a lack of use?

  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - HDI 90 engine falters at steady speed 2 Apr 2008 (Forum)
It doesn't feel like it cuts out then jump starts, its a smooth operation. It has never happened (yet) during acceleration I plan to change the air and fuel filters to see if that helps but if that fails , does anyone have any other ideas? As its intermittent would a diagnostics check see the fault? Any guidance would help Cheers Allan
  • Subaru Legacy and Outback Petrol (2004 - 2009) - My Mondeo's Legacy 20 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I don't miss the Mondeo wind noise from around the driver's door post and the various creaks and rattles that the Mondeo had developed. The Subaru is going to cost me more in fuel and insurance but I now do a lot fewer miles than I used to due to a change of working location, so that is not a big issue. Many thanks to all those who recommended a Legacy, its a good choice and one I would never have considered before reading this forum.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - (96-97) 1.9TD -White Smoke on Starting 28 Jan 2008 (Forum)
There are no obvious mis-fires in the engine, and it generally seems to drive as normal... My best guess is that it's either: A) An injector has gone down B) Fuel timing is out Ive read around, and most people suggest that white smoke is unburnt diesel. Fuel filter looks brand new. I did an oil & oil filter change over the weekend. and put a new Air Filter in too.
  • Skoda - Skoda - VW's problem child 17 Jan 2008 (Forum)
After humming and hawing and sitting on the fence for 10 years, they have decided to enter the Indian market however, they have a problem...Skoda! Summarising, Skoda came in over five years ago with the Octavia 19 TDi . It's robustness and fuel economy made it a winner. They experimented with 1.8 turbo's and petrols as well as the L&K but the way ot an Indian motorists wallet is through fuel economy - they would buy a diesel Rolls if given the opportunity!
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 03 Worn brake discs & drums - service limitations? 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Manufacturer: Vauxhall. Model: Astra. Type: Estate. Fuel: Dual fuel - LPG/Petrol. Trim: Elegance. Engine: 1600cc. Registered: 2003. Mileage: 50k. Just had the car inspected and given a full service by a Vauxhall dealership. • not another out of company car Q :o) 6 Dec 2007 (Forum)
really would like a barge type of car but good torque when i need it. not going to make much out of fuel at 17p per mile, with diesel going toward 105p a litre! and heated leather seats / cruise would be a bonus. I just am not going to be looking at laguna, as I have had a few, and they were always breaking down. or do I go medium and could get seat leon 150tdi cupra for around £7K but will it be comfy on 40K miles of driving a year?
  • Saxo 1.4 Petrol - Power cut outs 20 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Like if im doing 60 for example, and I put my foot down it could even cut out so its going down in fuel to the engine instead of going up like it should, then it kicks in and comes back. (sometimes) I have started to notice power loss in acceleration, not really noticeable but you just feel it used to go fast...
  • New Honda Civic (Diesel) 20 May 2006 (Forum)
I've had my current Passat TDI 115 PD estate (sport trim) since new in 2000 (pre-face lift) and am looking to change within the next 6 to 12 months. I really like my Passat (the fuel economy has averaged over 50mpg throughout its life), but I am not at all attracted to the new model. It looks too big and to "Americanised" with all the chrome trim etc. I also do not particularly like the look of the Audi A4 Avant.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 98 1.4 - sluggish performance and EML. 8 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I seem to be allsorts of problems with the thing at the moment and when I've taken it to the garage, they hook it up to the computer and tell me it's alright, it doesn't have anything wrong with it. It seems to have an intermittent sluggishness problem. The fuel gauge seems to stick every now and then so I have to guess how much is in there. My fuel economy seems to have plummeted too. My radio seems to be possessed and have a mind of it's own. When it's cold, and I've been driving my car for a while, when I finally stop my fan is on for quite some time and there's a smell - bit like clutch burning.
  • Uni Run - observations 21 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The camara vans were out in force on the bridges over the M4. As time was not an issue, I did an 'experiment' on speed against fuel consumption. Using the tip computer I monitored consumption over 2 30 mile m/way stretches. one at max 60 mph and the other at 'normal' speed. The difference was surprising. At 60 Mph the average was 41 MPG -- not bad for a big loaded V6 petrol auto estate.
  • Stateside Fun Barge 20 May 2005 (Forum)
The Yanks are moaning bitterly that a gallon costs over two dollars ( an american gallon is around 3.85 litres ) so Gordons tax levy means we pay nearly four times more for our fuel than they do. Just as well its so cheap there as we averaged 24 mpg. My question is why can't we allow overtaking both sides on the motorways as they do in the states ? It saves all the frustration of the middle lane hogger which is most people on this forums pet hate.
  • Renault Megane Test function 7 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Here is one for all you New megane owners who like to be in the know, whilst driving down to a funeral in Wales two weeks ago I stopped at a motorway service station to both service myself and the fuel state. Deciding that since I refuelled the car I would reset the MPH/MPG/Mileage counter and made a mistake of pressing the start/stop button at the same time as the button to reset the mileage counter.
  • Replacing Honda CR-V? 24 Sep 2004 (Forum)
So..if I change the car, I would still want auto and to sit higher (4x4 is unnecessary), but would like a car that soes at least 35mpg which would save me about £1000pa in fuel bills. Am I crazy to change; should I simply hang on or if I did replace it, what would you recommend. The CR-V is about 3 years and four months old, has done only 11,500 miles so I reckon is worth on a private sale about £11,000.
  • Seat arosa 29 Jun 2004 (Forum)
. - Looks like it may have been crashed either by dealer or 1st owner - been standing since. The car does not start at the moment - is leaking petrol - from fuel pipe (looks like it has been disconnected to drain the fuel tank (well thats what the guy selling it said anyway...) My main concerns are - will it be difficult to sell on. Chances of me making a bit of money out of it?
