  • Larger Estate - Another Petrol v Diesel question! - with specifics 9 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I am afraid I am reingniting the age old debate of Petrol vs Diesel, although I'm providing a specific set of circumstances to try and aid in the decision-making prcoes.s I'm sure the 'use the b***** search function' brigade will be cursing me now, however I have done a fair bit of research already, but I'm still finding a lot of conflicting opinions which are ultimately making it difficult making the choice, based on my specific set of circumstances.   These are : - I need a larger estate e.g Passat, Octavia, Mondeo, Mazda 6 - I have about £4700 - The car will be used primarily for a 9 mile motorway trip to the airport and back for work (18 mile total), approx 15 times a month(working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern) and some occasional urban driving on my days off (short distances).

  • Reports of my rental car (again) 28 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I usually travel with my family (so five of us with three growing children) and over the years we have rented something as large as a Kia Sedona to something as small as a Mazda 2 and we have all fitted in with greater or lesser amounts of luggage.  My last trip was solo (to our holiday apartment) so I had a Peugeot 107. We are back again and this time its a brand new Astra.
  • Naming and shaming policy - PLEASE READ 22 Aug 2012 (Forum)
“Arnold Clark wouldn’t offer me a discount”). A genuinely held opinion may be expressed as such (e.g. “I’ve always found Mazda diesels to be unreliable”) but would need to be capable of substantiation. A criticism about a particular vehicle, car dealer or insurance company needs to be justified: there should be a reasonable basis on which the criticism is made and therefore capable of being justified.

  • £4500 for a diesel estate 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
m a Vauxhall man, so prejudice kicks in, and I am concerned how they fair at high miles on the clock Vauxhall Vectra 05 plate onwards ? one of my fav?s unless I?m missing something Mazda 6 ? Nice but don?t know much about them Jag Xtype ? concerned about the wood and cream interiors. Merc C class ? it?ll be a older model and although I?d quite like a premium badge, the desire to have reliable cheap to run car out-ways this.
  • Fiat 500 vs Hyundai i10 18 May 2009 (Forum)
Delivery is suggested as mid June - which is quicker than I expected. It will be sad to see our Mazda 323 go - 6 1/2 years and 60k miles of good service but the suspect CAT, non functioning boot, rusting wheel arch and numerous scrapes mean it is worth more as a £2k scrapper than a cheap and simple runaround.
  • New car for SWMBO. Any thoughts 21 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Anyone got any other suggestions as I really worry that we'll end up taking the sensible/predictable route and buying a focus or a Golf and then regretting it every time we see one of the above? ps: I've discounted the Mazda RX 8 due to the engine reliability/fuel consumption issues otherwise.......... Ta Steve
  • smallish banger 12 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Would involve more cash for a nice one, but not too bad. I'd like a VR6- any idea if they'll get hit for big road tax any time soon? Mazda 323s. Not sure I'm mad about the look, although there are a few around and they seem like good value. Saab 900s. Slightly bigger and have a bit of a bad rep, but so cheap I'm tempted. Would I be mad??
  • 4WD vs Traction Control/Quality Tyres 22 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Having said that I use budget tyres and have no traction control etc on current vehicle. Whilst a 4WD (eg Subaru Legacy, Mazda M6 Sport AWD, A4 Avant Quattro, Passat 4motion, Golf 4motion) appeals, very few are diesel and fewer still automatic, hence poor economy and I'd imagine higher servicing due to 4WD. I don't need the clearance of a 4*4 but wouldn't rule out say CRV or Rav4, just probably I think not as good to drive on road as the above cars.
  • Labour rates top £150 per hour 19 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The marked differences in labour rates really makes shopping around worthwhile, so don?t accept the first price you?re given.? Mazda has the lowest average labour bills of £44 followed by Nissan, Seat, Fiat and MG Rover on £46. Lexus leads the table with the most expensive average charge of £78 an hour, £1 more than Mercedes, £3 more than Jaguar and £5 more than Porsche.
  • Cloning! Caught the PFD 3 Mar 2004 (Forum)
She said she immediately called her husband, Vincent, and the Cape Town traffic department to report that she was standing next to a vehicle that had the same number plate as her two-year-old Mazda Etude. When the traffic police arrived, ... had to keep surveillance of the area until the owner and driver of the Uno arrived. The Parklands man was then cited for having number plates that differed from the number on the Uno\'s windshield disc.
  • Best secondhand motor for £10k? 22 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Not a *huge* amount of choice here in Guernsey but the main makes are well represented (VW/Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Vauxhall, Mazda, Honda, Renault). Your thoughts appreciated!
  • Golf service 15 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Bearing in mind that I paid about 6k for it (PAS, electric windows + roof) is spending about 1k worth it (I realise that clutch and brakes are quite important!!)and buy something else (fancy either Mazda 323 or Nissan Almera). I had thought today was going to be good until this happened. I then went to the bank where I nearly got clobbered by an exploding man hole cover (missed it by 30 secs!). Best not go out tonight!
  • New car for £6K - Punto ? 5 Feb 2003 (Forum)
No to a Focus, no to an Astra, no to a Yaris, possibly yes to an Ibiza or Leon, Fiat Punto new shape or a Mazda 323. She’d really like an A3 but as our other car is a Skoda Octavia estate I am reluctant to pay considerable money for a smaller second hand version of our other car and £6K isn’t going to get you much of one anyway.
