  • 'Wet' Skoda Superb 10 Apr 2006 (Forum)
My 53 plate 2.5tdi Superb (purchased used from a Skoda dealer)recently showed an airbag fault. The dealer traced it to a fractured pollen filter housing, which had allowed water to penetrate the car over time and had 'wicked' down the loom into the airbag sensor and corroded it.
  • Ford TDCI oil changes 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Especially as 90% of my miles are long-range journeys on the motorway i.e. the engine runs at temperature. BTW, I presume the Ford dealership, servicing the car under Ford Direct warranty, DOES use top-spec oil??? Thoughts please. Thanks PS: This is a habit: I change the oil and filter on my 1985 Harley-Davidson motorcycle every 2,500 when the factory says every 5,000.
  • Returning a used car question. 20 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I brought the 2010 car from a car marketsuper under 3 weeks ago and I phoned the main dealer acouple of days after to discuss the car and they said it was due a free warranty change of the DSG automatix gearbox oil - so i booked it in.
  • Nissan Qashiqai 360 - Nissan Qashiqai 360 chassis corroded-NewCar 2yrs 25 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Dear HonestJohn For my Nissan Quashqai 360, bought in Feb. 2013, I found two areas on chassis at the back of the car, closed to two wheels corroded badly, very surprised and disappointed. A video is attached, shown below. It is a quality issue. The vehicle has only been used for two years, of about 21,000 miles. It's within the warranties.
  • Cam Belt changes. 28 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have been reading the thread regarding oil change intervals and one or two contributors mentioned cambelts. I am not sure what the manufacturer recommends (if anything) for my car so perhaps I could have a reasonably definative opinion from the techies amongst us. My car is to be run until either it, or I am dead! Skoda Fabia 1.9tdi with the VW PD 101 bhp diesel engine. I already change the oil & filter at around 10,000 kilometer intervals BTW - much to the surprise of the franchised VW/Skoda dealers I have used.
  • SEAT Arona - Reject car - my rights ? 25 Mar 2025 (Forum)
They have been sent a message on 23/3/25 chasing up a response and posing three questions 1) Why was the warranty declined by my local SEAT dealership. 2) What will happen if a further warranty claim arises. 3) Why was a car sold that did not have satisfactory service history which led to the warranty being declined by my local Seat dealership.
  • Which oil. VW specification. 2 May 2007 (Forum)
Just bought a Skoda Fabia Sport 64 1.2 12V petrol for the wife. Cracking little car in metallic black with only 500 miles on the clock. I obviously won?t be doing any oil changes myself until its out of warranty but wanted to know what oil to be used for any topping up. Two local Skoda garages in my area and rang both of them up to ask which oil to use.
  • Just discovered I bought an ex-rental car 24 Sep 2020 (Forum)
What do people think? I know that resale value is likely to be affected if the next buyer knows it was once a hire car. The car is very tidy and drives straight, and still has 2.5 years' warranty on it), but if it has been ragged by hirers there may be premature wear in the future (clutch etc) that's not covered by a warranty.
  • New car battery run down - Ford Focus 14 Apr 2007 (Forum)
HI I bought a new ford focus a few weeks ago .. ,When I went to view the car( before I paid for it) the car the battery was flat but the dealer said they would re charge it for me I was away after that and did not use the car for ten days. Now after a week and ,I must confess, trying to set the sat nav up, with the engine not running the battery is flat again..
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 1.8 or 2.0 litre petrol, or 2.0 TDCI? 18 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Must be cheap to run and reliable for long-term use, because this car will be used for unmissable appointments a long way from home (niggles aren't critical, but car-won't-go would be an expensive disaster). A saloon would be marinally preferable to a hatchback, but they are rare on the UK market, so it'll likely be a hatchback.
  • Picasso- Windcreen scratches 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
When it rains it is even worse as the wipers cannot collect all the moisture as it nestles within the scratches. Scratches are obviously caused by the wipers as they follow the arc. I've always had the car dealer serviced and agreed to changing blades when recommended etc. I never use ice scrapers. Only use autoglym glass cleaner. Resevoir always topped up with screenwash. Do you think I'm being unreasonable in trying to claim a new/repaired screen under warranty.
  • Volkswagen Passat Estate, jetta, Golf, Bora - VW silence warranty customers 6 Oct 2015 (Forum)
[endif]--> In light of the recent emissions scandal, VW appear to be on lock-down in the UK. A lot of the UK media have naturally focussed their attention on Volkswagens dealings with their cars and customers. This was brought to the attention by SKY NEWS who broadcast this news report at the bottom of the following page http://www.corroding-volkswagens.com/vw-the-truth/     VW are now “Silencing” customers   who have fought to get their vehicles repaired under the VW 12 yr. anti-corrosion warranty.
  • BMW 330i sport auto convertible 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have a copy of the reg doc. Asking price £22000 and I have offered £20k which has been accepted, but as the car is owned by the other half of one of the garage owners, this would then be a private sale with no warranty. This looks a good deal based on used prices but I admit to being a bit uneasy buying with no warranty.
  • Jaguar XF - Friend buying a used car Standards Slipping 24 Jul 2015 (Forum)
A Friend is in the process of buying a used XF with 2 years of warranty from a jaguar dealer. Price was ok, and apart from requesting new mats and scuffed alloys being fixed, nothing to worry about, and specifically asked if there were any items that may need to be replaced  (service items) before the next service, but asked for details of servicing and condition, and told that as discs were .2 mm above tolerance that was acceptable.
  • Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - Buying our next car 16 May 2016 (Forum)
Is this really how you are supposed to buy new clean,  low energy cars etc etc.  It's a complete rip off. It won't be happening. So what good advice can you people give me here.  I want a car no more than 12 months old,  certainly in as new condition, and still warrantied by Citroen.
  • Sold the old house,Got the cash.. - Don't want to give nearly 20K in tax 1 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Finally sold our old house a year after we moved, got the money, thinking of the car I would really really like, and decided not to, mostly because of the amount of vat on the sale, and the huge depreciation on the car i was thinking of. So Plan B or C, buy myself something a bit different, lookswise but used and with a warranty or outright cheap and take the risk..
  • Passat Groans 28 Jul 2002 (Forum)
I thought I was buying build quality, but neither my old mondeo or my wifes Fiesta rattle like this. Has anyone else had any similar experiences and would the warranty cover this problem. (It's an approved used VW.)
  • Citroen C3 2006 - Engine warming lamp - Anti Pollusion Fault 31 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I phoned same garage to get this looked at again and they're saying £90 minimum to have it looked at, if it's same problem it will be free else it will be the £90 + repair. The car does have a Select used warranty on it which should cover engine issues  (although software updates are not in warranty)   Can't help but feel a bit out of pocket here and the £50 software update 'fix' was just throwing money away for me to only come back and pay them more.
  • BMW reliability again 27 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Regardless of whether you have a full BMW service history, the dealer will never change the auto fluid. Many of these boxes are failing around the 120-150k mark - often well outside of warranty and to a cost of £3.5k plus VAT. A good independent or automatic transmission specialist can and will change the fluid for you (and any good BMW independents will recommend this anyway). This is commonplace in the US and means the 'box should last the life of the car rather than being the cause of it being written off.
  • SEAT Leon - Car has epc and engine light. Would you buy? 24 Feb 2019 (Forum)
We will then have a three month warranty with the garage. Carshop in Northampton. Just wondering what the general consensus is whether you would buy a 67 plate car that had these lights on or look for another one? Cheers.
