  Some 20 or 30 years ago I saw a survey which compared the cost of motoring for cars of different ages. I think it was by the AA, but it may have been RAC or Which? magazine. The survey showed that the cheapest cars to run were 4 to 6 years old. Newer cars cost more in depreciation.

  I've been driving volvo cars for a number of years now. My car at the moment is a S80 T6, I thought it was my dream car, expensive(for me anyway)6months old,10,000 miles on clock,pristine condition. Within a week I was having trouble with central locking - car taken back to garage to be sorted, Then driving on M275 car died, transported back to garage.

  I live in France and have an old two-wheeled sheep trailer maximum weight 490kg which has size 155-400 tyres. The trailer is in good condition so I would like to keep it. This is an old size tyre and now hard to find and expensive to buy.

  However my wife and I recently had a new baby son - this completes our family (foot down this time ;)) and I'm now wondering about the plausibility of fitting 3 children in the back of the Vectra. We have a 3 month old - very small car seat at the moment and not a big problem, but will soon need the next stage. We also have a 4 year old - larger seat, more room. Finally we have a 7 year old - booster seat only.

  Two blokes I know do nothing to their cars, zilch, nada, a Mazda Mx5 20 years old and a Jag S type pretty old. Jag cost about £800 and has merrily gone on for two years or so. Jag guy just runs them til they break and buys another, how they don't just stop running I don't know.

  I have a 9 month old petrol 1.6 Focus. Pretty happy with the car in general but compared to our old 1.6 Focus, the intectors seem to be very tickey especially when the engine is hot.  Is this a characteristic of these engines now, as they sound like tappets actually, but I'm sure the noise is just the injectors.

  I want to upgrade the old speakers in the door panels of a 4 year old car but am reluctant to simply attack the trim panels at random as I always seem to damage the clips and they never go back properly. Is there a more considered method or do I just grab and pull ?

  Hi, I'm hoping that someone who knows something about cars will be able to point me in the right direction. We have been driving (and towards the end, bunny hopping and lane drifting) in a fifteen year old fiesta. Enough is enough! we need a new car!

    All sounds v long term - but I plan to keep the Tino until I have a nice wad of cash - probably 2.5 years and I'd like a 3 year old replacement.   I'd like the replacement vehicle to be a good vehicle for 3- 20 years of age. That means no diesels and no car that's a great fleet vehicle but an awful long term keeper.

  My parents got a new car. Old car was gonna be scrapped..God know why but I thought it far to good to scrap so invested a little time & money & a new second hand engine fitted later, got it running again. It is now MOT'd and ready to get tax in order to drive/sell.

  Hello, new to this forum. My wife and myself are looking at getting a bigger car for our expanding brood, we have an eleven year old, a two year old and another on the way. Our Renault Clio is going to be too small. What i'd really like is a 5 seater but with 3 proper sized seats in the back, most 5 seaters have a pretty small middle seat in the back.

  ... continue to amaze. Case in point: A guy near me selling an average looking 12 year old jap pickup truck. He wants $3,800 for it. Later the same day I passed what looked like a late 1980s relic with rot on the doors and they wanted $1,000! Yet looking on the austin rover forum there's a guy wondering about putting a new 200 quid clutch in his 12 year old Primera which he says still has many many more miles in it, because this is more than the car is worth.

  my daughters boyfriend has just upgraded to a very good condition Ford Escort, he paid £450 and is insured TPFT. Today a car full of 16 year olds collided with his car and caused damage to the front right wing and light, they were obviously not insured and in the care of the local authority, the Police made an arrest and will appear in court to-morrow,they also say the 16 year olds had just bought the car for £40.

  Morning All. Have a 10 year old corsa with about 130k miles on the clock. Did a 400 mile journey yesterday and pulled over for a break. When engine restarted power steering wasnt working and can't get above 2000rpm. Coolant was spilling from the middle of the car and none showing in coolant reservoir.

  I was looking at buying an approximately 1-2 year old 10K miles top-of-the-range Ford Mondeo Titanium for about £17K. Then I started seeing adverts for other cars BRAND NEW at about half that cost (or a bit more). OK, I could knock a couple of grand off for a lower spec Mondeo.
• Skoda Octavia II - Air Conditioning sounding like an old fridge 14 Apr 2010 (Forum)
    Both of these can only be heard in the car as engine noise outside masks them and stop when the A/C is switched off.  I am hoping it is not a compressor as that looks to be both a common and expensive problem. rob

  Hello all. I am looking at replacing my 5 yr old Seat Alhambra with either new SUV (possibly the new Peugeot 4007 or Citroen C Crosser) or, alternatively getting a 2-3 yr old quality SUV such as the Tourag or XC90. I tow a caravan and need a fairly heavy tow car.

  Some time ago I saw an "old" (original style) VW Beetle on a P-plate (P at the front, as in 1997, not 1977). It was going the other way so I thought perhaps I'd just misread it. On Sunday I saw another, on an R plate. I was walking, it was parked, I got a good look.
