  • Renault Master - Panel van to camper conversion..model advice neede 25 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Planning on getting a panel van and converting to a stealth camper; 1. Am I better getting a younger chain drive cam (i.e.Renault Master 2010 on) with high mileage or an older belt drive with lower miles? 2. What 2000 onwards makes/models have chain drive cam engines. 3. Is there a new law that now states that I cannot convert a van to a camper and have it re-registered?
  • 2001 Mercedes ML 55 - BAS 11 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Recently, we have experienced a dangerous and disconcerting problem: the "BAS" light comes on and the vehicle almost screeches to a stop in the middle of the road!  It has now happened three times, and everytime the driving conditions are excellent (no wet, slick or "curvy" road) and we were driving at slow to moderate speeds (15-50 mph). It is to the point that we are afraid to drive the car...it's dangerous.
  • VW Chico 1995 1300 Engine - VW Chico Will not restart after driving 17 Jul 2011 (Forum)
vw chico.  I drive my vehicle for about 20km and go into the shops.  When I try to start my car again it will not start again.  It needs about 1/2 hour to stand before it starts again.  I have replaced the spark plugs, renewed carburetor base gasket, clean carburetor and it still will not start once I switch off the car.
  • Ford C Max 09 - Auxiliary drive belt 12 Mar 2011 (Forum)
My 1600cc C Max makes what only can be described as a "chattering " noise from the alternator area when the heated windscreens are switched on. The local ford dealer says it is the drive belt that needs changing at a cost of £90 and the belt is not subject to warranty. The car has done less than 25k and is just 2 years old. Has anyone had this problem? If the belt is defective why is it not covered by warranty or could this be a problem with the alternator.Thank you in anticipation.
  • Ford Galaxy - 4x4 version of Ford S-Max or Galaxy 18 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Does anyone know if Ford sells (or did sell) a 4 wheel drive version of the S-Max or the Galaxy?  I thought that I saw a road test a few years ago where they took an AWD version of the S-max up to the Alps. A 4 wheel drive Galaxy would be very handy.
  • Honda Accord 2.2 CTDI - Drive belt noise Air Con ! 18 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi My car on tick over every now and then starts to make a horrible noise which seems to be on the drive belt, its like a dry bearing, but its not happening all of the time !. Power Steering Pump, Alternator, Air Con compresor, my gut feeling its the Air Con, because the noise gets quite loud and then something kicks in and it stops!.
  • Repeated attempts to pass the driving test, how many should be allowed? 18 Mar 2010 (Forum)
So as per an earlier "toot" of mine, I see that research has now revealed that those who require multiple attempts, ie 4,5.6 attempts to pass their driving test never become competent drivers, this proved by their having more accidents..... incl with stationary /parked vehicles. 2nd attempt pass is best, first time passers (like me ) are a bit cocky(apparently), I wasnt btw cheers
  • Driving to Slovenia 22 Jan 2010 (Forum)
We're planning to take the trip in a pretty leisurely fashion and camp along the way. Haven't planned a route yet (in fact I've never embarked on a cross-europe drive before), but have any of you any suggestions, as well as experience of good campsites en route? Unfortunately (cos SWMBO's a teacher) we're stuck with going in the smmer hols. Thanks!
  • Small cars 30 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Is it me, or do more motorists drive more aggressively towards small cars. Normally I drive largish saloon cars although last couple of days I have had to use my sons Citreon C1. I have had more cars cut me up, drive inches from the rear bumper, and refuse to give way more times than i care to remember.
  • What can you drive? 22 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hello all, I thought it might be vaguely interesting to find out what type of vehicles us Back Roomers are entitled to drive. As an optional extra, please feel free to tell us how many points you have. I'll start - Car, manual transmission, passed 23/04/1992, no points. Bus, manual transmission, passed 01/10/1997, no points.

  • Driving Entitlements for 21 yr old 29 Mar 2009 (Forum)
My son has been offered a few days hard labour (parental :-) here) starting tomorrow, first thing. We want to check if he is allowed to drive a Pajero pulling a trailer - trailer is a high sided metal one, about the same size as the 4x4. He is awaiting the arrival of a replacement photocard, which has these details, but it will not arrive before he has to report for duty.
  • LPG Cars/Vans-Why arn't more people driving these? 10 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Are there any serious downsides to it? There are several LPG stations around the typical routes I drive so no problem getting the stuff. I would have thought more companies (especially large fleets) would have gone down this route - partially if working in London!

  • Driving in Italy ? Watch out! 7 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Have just received a bill for 113 Euros for unknowingly driving a hire car in Pisa's congestion zone in May 2007 ! Apparently many Italian cities have these and they are not well marked and only in Italian of course. They have I year after getting your details from the hire company to bill you and 16 months delay is not uncommon.

  • Driving in Philippines 20 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The congestion was really nothing worse than the Strand or Hanger lane as far as I can see, and I really didn't feel people were all that reckless. Next time I thought I'd be content to drive myself. One good thing with the driver is not having to circle round looking for (scarce) parking though. Thoughts?
  • Psychometric driving test 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
An "expert" is urging the adoption of psychometric assessment as part of the driving test. He says we need to get beyond hand/eye coordination and deal with drivers' attitudes. We need to be able to correct unacceptable levels of risk-taking, giving as examples jumping red lights and speeding.
  • Silly people driving dangerous cars 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
My girlfriends Ka has had a suspension knock for a while now. I've pointed out that her coil is bent but she still continues to drive it. Yesterday I told her to check the MOT as it may be due soon, so I got the chassis number and checked online, the MOT was due last week. She dosn't seem to be that bothered but I am worried she is will get into serious trouble, either when a plod notices is or when her wheel falls off.
  • Drink Driving 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Not sure if anyone can offer any advice but here goes anyway. My brother was pulled for Drink driving last night he was over the limit at 84mg. He's never done anything wrong in his life and at the moment is quite upset. He's got to appear in court on Wednesday and he's got lots of things running through his head.
