Volkswagen Polo II (1991 - 1994) - 94 1.3 Engine cutting out 18 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Now two days ago (mid October) the car cut out again. The sequence was everything went off (except the battery indicator), then the electrics came back after about 10-20 seconds. The car would not start at that point but when she re-tried starting it a minute or two later it started. She took it back to her garage who checked it over again. -
Renault Austral - Vehicle Rejection Issue 27 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Three of the breakdowns have reported exactly the same error messages (Impossible Restart, Check Electrical System and 12v Battery Backup). After the second time this fault happened, I raised complaints with the dealership, Renault and the finance company. My initial thoughts were to get the vehicle replaced but after suffering a third case of the same fault I am at the point where I don't feel able to trust a vehicle with the same hybrid system so am pushing for a refund. -
Leo the Leaf replacement 23 May 2025 (Forum)
After viewing numerous tatty Leaf’s, and several overpriced Kia Niro’s most with zero history (so no battery warranty) and poor accident repairs, we’ve bought a 22 plate 18,000 mile VW ID3 58kwh Pro Performance Max instead - bring back L/LX/GL etc. Car is mint, approved used and as part of VW’s used car event it comes with two years VW warranty, breakdown cover, a £250 finance contribution and free servicing. -
LV Britannia Rescue 14 Nov 2023 (Forum)
But this morning, I received a rather confusing letter from LV BR. The gist of it seems to be saying if one has a flat tyre, flat battery or siezed brakes while the car is 'at home,' dont phone us, use a webform to contact us and tell us what's wrong. Bear in mind, this applies to anyone with home start which is included in the comprehensive cover. -
Toyota Auris - £88.00 +VAT for a tyre valve...seriously?? 12 May 2022 (Forum)
Needless to say it was a shock when Toyota quoted £88.00 + VAT for the part. Also, it looks like the lithium batteries in these things only last for 5-10 years then the whole units have to be replaced which would be upwards of £400 in total. The thing is I don't even need tyre pressure sensors, I do a visual check before most journeys and have a pressure gauge which I use on all cars in the family regularly (as well as a 12v tyre inflater) The Auris has been hugely reliable over our 3 years of ownership so I can't critisise Toyota too much but this just seems unnecessary. -
Seat Ibiza 2008 (2006 build) - 100,000 miles - advice very much appreciated notable to gas.. 25 Nov 2021 (Forum)
After 6 hours of driving ( with half a tank of fuel), both amber lights appear on my dashboard, and I'm unable to accelerate. The engine didn't cut off as I have a new battery/alternator belt. I had to pull over and restart my engine, which fixes the problem and I'm off again. So it seems when my revs lower, the car just can't gas/accelerate every 20mins-1 hour (had to stop about 10 times since the first time within a few days). -
Vauxhall Vectra - ECU replacement 30 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I'm not sure what this meant but he had to call for a low loader to take my car home.and go back to rescue him!! We charged the battery overnight and the car started the next day and the warning light had gone out. Took it for a short run and all seemed fine but we were a bit worried that it would happen again so we drove it to the garage and left it to get looked at. -
Going electric? 18 Aug 2021 (Forum)
We need to retain a long range car for family holidays etc so doing away with the Volvo is probably unrealistic but a big battery Leaf or similar could potentially do the job and it would save me forking out £720 on timing and ancillary belt changes plus a service and it’s due two expensive tyres at the back too. -
2010 fiat 500 - My gf Fiat wont start after changing break bulbs!! 26 Jan 2021 (Forum)
I checked the fuse box and found small fuse number 30 gone, so I bought new ones from Halfords and replaced it but the car still won’t start and the rest of the indicators on the speedometer won’t come on. The starter of the car will not start to spin at all so I thought maybe the battery is bad and tried to jump start it but still nothing. So for me this should be a fuse but I have checked all the fuses and they are good apart from the big square ones which I’m not even sure are fuses. -
Daewoo Matiz - Strange problem with ignition system 15 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Plugged in cheap scan tool to diagnostic plug – no MIL codes. Disconnected battery and came inside for a cup of tea and to scratch my head and worry about the holes in my wallet - then went to bed. More head scratching today, then remembered you clever lot :-) any ideas? Many thanks ... -
Corsa 1.3 cdti '08 Plate - Problems with Corsa Intermittent starting winter 23 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Only got worse and was left over the winter months with no starting. Taken to mechanic and had new glow plugs, EGR valve, air filter and battery and returned to me still not starting. Around March time the car started to start again and after a month was then reliable again through the summer months starting all the time. Low and behold, got to october just gone and same problems started again. -
Ford Focus2007 1.8 Zetec - Sudden bombardment of problems 8 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I checked coolant etc and there was no problems. I took it for another spin just now and noticed that the battery light did not go off. The temp gauge quickly went up to just below 90 but nothing concerning as it usually sits around this temperature. I thought I would take it one junction of the motorway just to see how it coped and as soon as I got to 50mph the gauge rocketed up again and displayed the warning light. -
any - rear dashcam 8 Feb 2018 (Forum)
it will be a pita to keep having to reset the time every time i leave the car for more than 48 hours, this is a problem with some Transcends too (having no battery as such, one of our two loses the time in about 36 hours) but the Transcends are fortunately easy peasy to reprogram the time. -
Hyundai Coupe - Strange Electric Failure 20 Mar 2017 (Forum)
In order to spare my neighbours, I left the boot open a creak to stop the noise, bu forgot about the light in the boot (it was 4am after all...). As a result, when I got out to the car the next day, it appeared the battery had died. Now when I turn the key nothing happens at all and the light in the boot is off so I just assumed as much. It's probbaly worth mentioning that I drove the car just under 200 miles 2 days before this with no issues at all. -
Nissan Qashqai 1.5dci - Cold start problem 4 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I have a fault happening with my 2009 Qashqai when the air temperature is below 10c and it is it's first start for 8 hours+. It will start and then after a few seconds stall. I've replaced the battery, glow plugs and also taken the egr valve out and cleaned it and sprayed the rest of the cleaner down the intake with the engine running. I didn't take the egr appart anymore than the valve. -
Vauxhall Zafira A - error codes - BDO or BDO2. 52 plate Zafira 29 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I'm not sure if this has been asked before? If so I apologise. I have a 52 plate Zafira 1.8 auto which I rarely use so when I do use it the battery is usually dead, but after a recharge it'll start first turn of the key, here's the but every time weird things happen with the indicator lights on the gear change console and the dash also it'll go into safe mode (although I can manually change gear no problem) after running around for a while and a few ignition off and ons the lights on the gear change console sort there selves out and it starts running as normal but the Traction Control (car skidding in a triangle) and the Engine Electronics (car with a spanner on top) stay on. -
Toyota Yaris 04 1.0 - Car stalling/cutting out whilst driving 25 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Hi, On friday evening i went and put some petrol in my car (wasn't in depsertae need but that is just when i fill it up) where i usually go and then drove her home and the car was fine. about an hour later i was driving her and sitting in traffic for a while on a steep hill and as i was driving her up the very steep hill she suddenly stopped whilst driving (2nd or 3rd gear about 27mph) i restarted her and the dash and lights were on but the engine wasn't going. (SRS light, battery light, oil light and warm engine light appreard) but she started then after the third attempt and drove home fine. that night i was driving home again and she stalled whilst driving on flat road. took three attempts for her to start. it happened yesterday (sunday) again whilst driving. this time i came to a stop to let traffic past on busy road and she just stalled and later that night whilst driving her out of the driviway she started and drove about a foot, then stopped and it took 2 attempts to start her again. -
Ford Focus Estate - 2004 focus 1.8 tdci , power loss , bad starting 30 Jul 2015 (Forum)
...reading the net ...I'm not alone The car has done 155,000 with full history , bought with no warranties ...one day after getting it was driving along and all was fine , went to give it a blast and she went into limp mode , stop restart and all was well , this however keeps happening Then she became hard to start , had an injector changed by the garage I got it off , still had the limp problem but she had stopped smoking ,then became really hard to start and sounded rather ill with a slight judder going through the gears I then put a new battery on ..no change New camshaft sensor... No change Cleaned out the egr valve ...no change Checked all hoses Then she failed to start New glow plugs fitted ..no change Green flag out , 2 fault codes one for turbo boost ( pretty sure its the sensor and its sending her into limp mode ) no big drama Second was for fuel pump pressure ...suspect fuel pump ...changed the filter first , split the old one open for any metal off the fuel pump and it was as clean as water so I can't see it being the pump Injectors were fine on the diagnostics Bunged in bg244 as I was already chucking a few Bob at her Any ideas ( even better cures ) would be smashing Weavy -
Honda Jazz Mk 1 (2006) - Immobilizer problem 12 Jun 2015 (Forum)
And what do they mean by "spiked"? The RAC didn't try to jump start the car - just disconnected and tested the battery (which is the original one and was fine). All in all the RAC man spent over two hours working on the car, plugging a laptop into it and trying to reset the fuel cutoff (which was fine) but he concluded by deciding it needed a new key. -
Nissan Micra - Hello there! 4 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Otherwise I will probably drive it to the scrap yard, less than a mile away from me, and keep the wheels and battery - apparently she recently had 4 new tyres fitted, and the spare is untouched. thanks
