Petrol into Diesel (Again) 15 Dec 2007 (Forum)
True, prevention is better than cure but I have actually never seen or heard of a blown up engine and unserviceable fuel system due to wrong fuel type, maybe it's a conspiricy, maybe it's like when you were a kid and you were told the bogey man would get you if you didn't go to sleep. -
2001 Mk2 1.2 16v Petrol - 2001 Mk2 1.2 16v Petrol - turns over, won’t start. 13 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Turnover time was about 3 min in total. I assume that should have been plenty to get fuel up to the injectors. I have never had to bleed a petrol system. Maybe bleeding is needed with Clio. I have zero experience with fault diagnosis on Renault Cars. If this was a 40 year old car with a carburettor and points I would be able to quickly diagnose the issue. -
Renault Clio E-tech hybrid - Impressions after the first 1000 miles 21 Apr 2024 (Forum)
The data log reads Total distance 1004.6 miles Distance travelled in electric mode 470.1 miles Average fuel consumption 54.7mpg Average electric consumption 8.9miles/ kWh Total recuperated energy 48.6kWh Average speed 21.9 mph Without electrical assistance, a 1.6 petrol automatic like this would probably return around 30mpg on a good day (purely a guess). -
Using km/h speedo in UK 1 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Also, mental calculations are not difficult - 20 MPH is 30 km/h, 30 is 50, 40 is 65, 50 is 80, 60 is 100, 70 is 110. NSL on single carriageway is 100 km/h - an easy to remember number. As a bonus, the fuel economy is shown in km/L - a more rationale unit compared to MPG (we don't buy fuel in gallons). Of course this is a personal thing and many others may find it weird to use km/h :-) I need to observe next few months whether I can keep it permanently in km/h or once the fad is over I'd revert back to MPH. -
New family SUV required 11 Aug 2022 (Forum)
More swayed towards an SUV however please send me any suggested cars I should be looking at, very obvious but I need it to be reliable (that’s what they all say) and quite economical. However I do get a fuel card with work so fuel isn’t really an issue. Thanks again, -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - Petrol-y smell in the car 18 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Someone told me to change the pollen filter, but does it still not blow through the pollen filter when in re-circ mode? Is the fuel pump accessible from under the rear seats and if so, if the lid of the fuel pump was not screwed down tight, I suppose it would cause a smell, but why would the smell disappear in re-circ mode. Smell comes back when I switch off recirc mode. -
2006 Focus 1.6 Ti-VCT - Focus hesitation/stutter 20 Jul 2019 (Forum)
There are no error codes in the PCM and most sensor readings seem reasonable, although i have very negative long term fuel trims at idle (around -20 to -25%), this improves after a while at higher revs. Oddly the stort term fuel trims are always within a few % of zero. The lambdas are reading reasonably to, the pre-cats are fluctuating from 0.05 or so to 0.8 every second or so, the post cats are at 0.7-8 constant. -
Toyota Auris Touring Sports - Which 2015 Petrol Estate? - Auris or Ceed? 18 Jan 2019 (Forum)
The Kia is thirster and has higher car tax, so over 5 years I estimate the total cost (purchase+fuel+tax) will be roughly similar excluding servicing & repairs. Auris Sport 1.2T Business Edition 5dr What fuel next 6 Mar 2018 (Forum)

Mazda CX-5 SE-LUX 2.2 2WD Diesel. - Engine failure 9 Mar 2017 (Forum)
If so, is the correct thing to do really to replace the petrol tank after a misfueling? 2. If it is a fault with the fuel pump, would I have not noticed at least some spluttering, and shouldn't a waring light have come on before the engine died? 3. Would such a major failure take over three weeeks to identify and confirm on a modern car with all its diagnostics? -
VW Golf Match Edition 1.4 TSI 5dr - Tyre pressures on my new MK7 car. 21 Jul 2016 (Forum)
There is also a tyre pressure listed with an exclamation mark against it and in the user's manual, this refers to a 'Comfort Tyre Pressure' of 30psi for some models which can be used to some detriment in the fuel consumption. To my mind I think that this would make for a more forgiving ride on our appalling roads but wonder whether something between 30 and 35psi could be a compromise - say 32/33psi? Initially the salesperson, on handover, didn't really comment on this but I was wondering if the higher pressures is something to do with trying to contribute towards the good fuel consumption achieved by these cars in addition to Start/Stop etc. -
Vauxhall vectra sri 2,2 04 - warning light on dash 19 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I have had the car put on diagnostics and it comes up with throttle body, however the mechanic cleaned this up and it has made no difference. I have had the fuel pump changed and a new coil pack fitted. No difference. It's supposedly had a full service, however, I was told that the fuel filter wasn't changed by another mechanic so I suppose it's quite possible that other things weren't done either. -

Tried changing the TDC sensor no change. Tested power to 3 wire plug to coil and nothing on any terminal. Fuel pumps to inlet rail. I've noticed that ABS light and Service light goes off when ignition turns on, along with immobiliser light. When cranking the immobiliser light stays off but ABS & Service light come on. -
Focus TDDI Endura problem 29 Apr 2015 (Forum)
There is a knocking/tapping noise seemingly coming from the top left hand side of the engine accompanied by a fair bit of grey smoke, thinking this was a broken valve spring or a sticky valve i took the head off for inspection and cleaned everything and reseated valves while i was there, put it back together and the noise/smoke was still there,i changed an injector but still no joy,i noticed that the top of pistons 1-3+4 seemed to be normal(dry and usual discolouration) but the top of 3 seemed to be wet as if the fuel had not burnt properly, there is engine management on the car but it does not show there is a problem and the car starts a treat and the turbo seems to be ok,do these symptoms signal a fault in the fuel system and would this cause the knocking i describe?? -
Peugeot 207 - Engine warning light 28 Oct 2014 (Forum)
At Peugeot Tech's behest we have got to fill up from empty with Shell V Max or similar premium fuel and return the car to the main agent who will add a fuel system service additive to the tank, change the engine oil and download the ECU and hope that cures the problem. Has anyone any idea what the hell is going on??? -
I have recently bought an 07 plate Focus C-max 1.6 - Hesitation when ubder load. 3 May 2014 (Forum)
You can feel the car holding back a bit between 2000 and 2500 revs , and it sort of "pulses". Feels like it may be a fuel issue , or maybe air flow? It is the 90bhp engine, so no DPF to consider. It has been back to the Vw Polo / Audi A1 - Polo/A1 cylinder on demand 1.4 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
After having a few Diesels and looking at a new 120d I have decided, for me diesels are too much trouble than they are worth and as a private buyer I'm not willing to take the risk again. I do around 25000 miles per year and repairs on my last two diesels have negated any fuel savings made ( and more). With this in mind I want to go back to petrol. I want a car with a good amount of power, but sips fuel. I was tempted by a hybrid, but I just can't get along with the CVT gearbox despite really enjoying the Yaris hybrid for most of the time I had it. -
Peugeot 206 (56) - Overheating and Losing water 5 Oct 2013 (Forum)
After a service identified he needed a new head gasket, I booked it in for repair. The head gasket was replaced, engine skimmed, cam belt and fuel pump replaced. After 2 weeks it started leaking again. The garage took it back and said things just needed tightening. Over the next couple of months it still leaked and eventually the garage took it back and did the head gasket again.
