  hi ive a astra van 1.7 cdti 2004.was running fine today ,parked up or 5 mins ,then set off a minute later battery light come on and no power steering ,ive had van for 2 months and the last owner said it was a new alternator ,any ideas ,would a alternator off a 1.7 dti fit ?

  i have a problem with my Audi revving up and down like its hunting for fuel and sometimes its really hard to start needing lots of throttle or needing none at all,it is running badly and not very economical,i have ordered a new air flow meter as that can cause this,any other suggestions?thanks...PS the omissions are not good either.

  Evening, My cars rear suspension has been lowered slightly and is running on 205/45/16 low profile tyres. When the car left the factory it had 195/50/16 tyres on it. I currently feel every lump and bump. If i revert back to the original sized tyres will the ride comfort be better?

  The car has done 158,000 miles but i do not know if another engine has been fitted. Do you think it is too high or is it ok? The engine runs ok. Any help please {some punctuation added to make for easier reading}

  Ive been buying diesel at £1.01 a litre of late. The tank hold just short of £61. I get around 580 miles out the tank when its running on the red for a few days - it may reach 600 but i dont chance it. The tank is 61.5 litres in size thanks

  Hello, My wife has an 06 Mini One. The manufacturer's warranty runs out soon. We can extend it another year for about £400. Do you think it is worth paying this? So far we have had no problems with it. It has done a tiny mileage of about 12,000. Thanks for your thoughts.

  Its the carbon monoxide that seems to be the problem. The car has been low on fuel and was stood around for months, could bad fuel be making it run rich? Would it help to fill the car a give it a good blast?? Can anyone help? Thanks

  i have just had a recon engine fitted. i am having problems starting when the engine is hot starts ok when cold but as soon as the temp gets to the max. it takes a long time to start. its 130 tdi vw 2002 awx type pd engine. runs perfect apart from not starting when warm.

  omegea gearbox changing down gears at low speeds(around 15-20 mph) and not going into 5 gear engine running very hot over 50moh, also i have noticed that petrol consumption has gone up. can anyone help what to do have taken it to a couple of garages but they havent the tec to deal with

  I'm looking at buying a dualiner as a big family wagon (thanks for the advice everyone) The question I have is, is there much difference in the running cost of the LWB -v- SWB models. I know the boot space is considerably bigger in the LWB but is won't be used for work purposes so its not an issue. I've being told there could be as much a 10-13mpg in the difference.

  I have just renewed my taxed disc online (this is about 2 weeks early), is it legal to display this disc before the old one has run out? If not, then with all of the online/radio/TV encouragement to renew I would have thought that they would have included some kind of bold warning not to display it until the old one has expired.

  After washing the car I always used to spray the bodywork with a solution of water and Turtle Wax rinse magic, which is no longer available. A pity because it did a lovely job of beading the water and making it run off. I was wondering if dishwasher rinse aid would do the same job or would it do any harm to paintwork or seals. Is there a product available used by professional valeters?

  Hi, the four speed fan for heat and A/C has ceased to work on it's first 3 speeds the 4th speed blasts away merrily. But, when trying the fan on the first 3 speeds.with the engine running the car engine speeds up slightly - it's as if power is being drawn.Also, the A/C will come on on the dead speeds. Many thanks for any advice.

  It was in petrol blue, which was quite faded and patchy with original white on black standy-out rear number plate. Seemed to be running quite well as it ticked over. A man more concerned with mechanics than looks, it would seem. Good to see.

  I have a 306 Hdi which when the engine is cold has recently started to idle from 900rpm down to 700rpm and feels like it may stall. It drives absolutley fine when its running with no loss of power so im wondering could it be an electrical problem with a sensor playing up? cheers

  Has two batteries, which are apparently running at 25-40% efficiency. Personally I'd probably have replaced just one on the grounds that 1) I'm stingy 2) Does a car REALLY need 2 batteries - I know Toyota advertise putting 2 batteries in the Hilux so as to avoid being let down if one dies.

  hi i have a problem starting my L200 2.5 td it takes ages to start on a morning but once started it will start everytime on the button. when it does eventually start it kicks out loads of grey smoke for about 10 seconds then runs clear i would be grateful of any suggestions cheers noz

  Having just booked in my car for a dealer service and facing a large bill as its a timing belt change, I was pondering when it's no longer worth having an official franchise stamp in the book. I guess the answer is different with prestige marques and exotica but for a run of the mill car when is the premium no longer worth it? Is there any solid evidence from Glass' etc.?

  dear honest john the engine management light keeps coming on intermittently and sometimes when it does the engine will only idle and will not rev after 30 seconds or so the engine will pick up and the car will run perfectly for maybe 50 miles even though the engine management light stays on any suggestions as to the problem will be gratefully received many thanks inanimate
