Grand, spanking used 1 Aug 2009 (Ask HJ)
I am considering purchasing at 2001/51 Citroen Xsara with only 6,700 miles on the clock. Even if I am able to verify that the mileage is correct, and the... -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.4 (8v) Failure to start after running fine - 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It didn't seem to pick up cleanly from idle, and the mechanic thought it sounded as though it was running rich. I have recently changed the oil and filter plus new spark plugs 6 weeks ago. It's done about 5000 since the air filter has been replaced. He suggested that perhaps one of the engine management sensors (e.g. -
Zut Alors - 306 rain gutter rust 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
inside and out even down to door jambs and engine bay, and is a complete hoot to hustle along a twisty and bumpy B road. It is also totally reliable and costs buttons to run, so run it we probably will for a few years yet. But, horror of horrors... Having waxed lyrical about how totally rust free this car is, I read the other day that they are susceptible to rust of the rain gutter that runs across the top of the door apertures. -

Vauxhall Corsa E - Cleaning the throttle body 8 Feb 2025 (Forum)
We have a 2015 Corsa E with the 90bhp 1.4 petrol engine. Tedious car but it costs us peanuts to run, and it has heated seats & steering wheel which seem to be very expensive extras on any new car these days. The car has 75,000 miles up and was running OK, apart from an irritating fluffiness / slight stumble just off idle rpm. -
Kia Niro 2018/68 - Fuel Consumtion of PHEV 5 Aug 2021 (Forum)
We do approx 10000 mpy and our crude overall consumption is 90 mpg. On long distance journies, I start off with a full battery (36 mile indicated) and run on pure electric for the first 15-20 miles. I then switch to HEV mode, move the gear lever to 'sport' which enables me to use 6th gear pretty much the whole time whilst on the motorway. On normal (flattish) motorwars, with the aircon on the car automatically recharges the battery at the rate of up to 1 mile per 10 run. -
Smart Motorways?!?! 25 Jun 2020 (Forum)
So much for the efficiency of our smart motorway network camera coverage and rapid response. Yesterday, Saturday, M6 south just below jct 13 4 lane running no warnings, car stopped presumably broken down on live left lane. Today, Sunday, M1 south around jct 29 4 lane running, no warnings, car stopped presumably broken down on live left lane. Dunno about you lot but i'm unsure about these so called smart motorways and thgink the dangers outweigh the benefits, very happy with the 4 lane section M1 between Nottm and Mansfield and some of the newer M25 sections, just as they should be 4 permanent running lanes and a good wide hard shoulder for emergencies..fortunately both days very few lorries on the road, good visibility dry conditions, that brings to 7 now the memorable stopped unwarned of vehicles i've come across on fast moving smart motorways, all the rest have been in the west mids section at busy times in dangerous stretches. -

N/A - Hit and Run 14 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Hello, On the 31st of March 2019 I was involved in a hit and run. I have video evidence of them hitting my vehicle, and multiple witnesses who were in the area at the time. I have phone numbers for these people, and the video even captures them stopping to see if I'm okay. minutes after the collision I was straight on the phone to the police and following that I reported the event to my insurance. -
Are runflat tyres just a ruse to relieve manufacturers of the cost of including a spare? 24 Aug 2018 (Ask HJ)
I'm a bit suspicious of runflat tyres. What are the pros/cons of using them? Is it just a manufacturers' ruse to relieve them of the cost of including... -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.6 Radiator fan on all the time 24 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem, as as soon as it was all connected back up the fan resumed running all the time. My dad seems to think the new part I have bought might be defective, as why would the fan stop running when it is totally disconnected and yet run when connected to the new switch? -

Ford Focus 1.6 2007. - Occasional whiff of petrol outside car 27 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I keep an empty petrol can in the boot for emergency topups, and thinking that maybe this was the source of the niff I removed it and put it in the shed. Sure enough, the smell went away. However...today I had the car running on idle whilst I plugged in and used my 12v car vac, and a couple of times in the space of about 20 minutes I caught a whiff of unburnt fuel, generally in the boot area. This has never happened before whilst I've been checking lights, hoovering or whatever with the car stationary and engine running. -
