Advanced Driving 18 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I have been looking recently at improving my driving skills by taking some sort of advanced driving course. I have looked into it and there seems to be so much choice and was just wondering if anyone else could share their experiences. I had a look at the RideDrive site. -

Raising driving age to 18? 7 Jan 2007 (Forum)
They say this will discourage youngsters from starting to smoke and reduce death rates. While they are about it surely it would be sensible to raise the age limit for driving a car to 18. It could be argued that this will also save lives as young drivers are more likely to have an accident. Being able to drive is like a badge of honour and would compliment being able to buy alcohol, cigarettes and vote, making coming of age a real change. -

As he got out of the ditch, there was a clunck from underneath the floor pan, the engine sounded a slighty different tone & the Corsa performed quicker then before!!!!!!!!! Does any backroomers have any ideas what this can be & why? -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-) -

M.O.T. Question - leaking drive shaft. 7 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Little Seicento is due for its 2nd MOT within the fortnight, so whist checking all parts of the car to see if its working, locking, and not leaking. I've notice that the passenger side drive shaft from the gearbox is leaking small amounts of oil from the gearbox, as I understand one of the seals internally has gone after 36k miles. Now the leak is not major its just small amounts have gone onto the gaiter and drive shaft. -
Driving Fleet cars, is there an IT solut 26 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Driving Fleet cars, is there an IT solution to identifying who was driving when? We have a large pool of a cars at work, which are accessed by a lot of staff. Although they all have a "Log book" which drivers are supposed to fill in with times/dates/mileage most of them don't, and when we get the odd NIP for a GATSO, its really difficult to track down the driver, putting various people at risk of being prosecuted for not providing information on the driver. -

Driving Long Distances. 9 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Ripley suggested this should have been done in two 250 mile stints. Utter tosh. I've driven 600 miles to a party and I presume delivery drivers drive 8 hours a day every day of their lives. I *do* accept that driving when tired is a mistake - I know at least one prerson who crashed after a 22 hour stretch of work. Just don't see why 5-6 hundred miles or 8-10 hours would be that big an issue. -
Winter driving and tyre pressures 20 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I was wondering if there was any mileage (excuse the pun) in reducing tyre pressures (max. by around 10-15%), from the recommended values when driving in Winter conditions? By ?Winter? I mean icy /snowy tarmac roads and motorways. The logic behind this is from 4X4 drivers who reduce tyre pressure when driving in sandy/muddy/snowy conditions to increase the tyre? -

Any - Hard drive for music ? 4 Sep 2024 (Forum)
My imported Honda Stream, which may have to be pensioned off, has a hard drive to automatically record all the CDs that are played. We have 125 albums on it and counting. This is a very useful feature. -Far more convenient than playing music from a mobile phone, even with bluetooth. -
Ford Mondeo - Brake squeal after driving at higher speeds 1 Sep 2023 (Forum)
When I drive at higher speeds, such as 40-50mph then use my brakes, I will then proceed to hear a squealing noise coming from the passenger side, most likely from the brakes, but only when the car is in motion, not during braking. -

Grant Shapps - Transport Minister - made the above statement recently https://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/cars/article-9545797/Transport-Secretary-says-everybody-driving-electric-2030.html If you ever wanted to know how useless a politician might be, a Minister who does not understand his own Government's legislation must be on top of the list. -
Diesel - Driving it Wrong? 10 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I've just got an Audi A1 1.6 TDI. Before, I had a 2008 VW Polo petrol. Don't have much experience of driving diesels. The Polo would sit happily on a flat road at 30 in 5th, but the diesel won't. Even 4th at 30 is a struggle for it sometimes. I'd have thought with the diesel being more powerful it could do it, so why can't it without it labouring the engine?
