USA Driving Standards 4 Sep 2002 (Forum)
On heavily congested freeways cars are weaving from lane to lane in an attempt to gain 1 or 2 car lengths advantage. It doesn't matter what lane you are in, you will be cut up. I drive regularly in the States and I am amazed at how many vehicles veer from their lanes and sometimes simply run off the road. It seems that the combination of large, easy to drive automatics with cruise control encourage inattentive driving. -

Just helping youngrovergirl to renew her licence using gov.uk/renew-driving-licence Going through everything, created an account but when it sends back to DVLA it does NOT include the hyphen in surname so doe not recognise time at address even though identity passport and driving licence scanned and uploaded. -
Anyone drive a 1.0 TSI Skoda Scala? 15 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Hi all I went to test drive a 1.0 TSI Scala. I noticed when in traffic lights there was a slight vibration in the cabin. Once you take your foot off the clutch the stop start kick in, and the engine cuts out until you drive off. -
Revoked Driving Licence 11 Jan 2018 (Forum)
A friend of mine has had her driving licence revoked by the DVLA because of information received alleging alcohol dependence. She does have a history of alcohol related issues, but has never been disqualified due to a drink driving offence. -

Driving Licence Categories 20 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I'm looking to see if anyone could give me some advice regarding upgrading of my driving licence. I currently restricted due to medical reasons to categories B and BE, but need to upgrade to C1. I have an application form on the way from DVLA, but would like to know if a new driving test is required and how long the process typically takes. -
does you fit wot you drives? 20 Aug 2007 (Forum)
In follow on mode from the ?small people reaching controls ? thread?, do you suit the car you drive?. Are you a ?tall Guy? driving a mini with your head stuck out of the sun-roof, or are you ?dwarfish? person peering through the spokes of a ?Jags? steering wheel?. To start it off, I?m 5ft 7in, but just try to bully me when I? -
A driving ban but a mitigation plea. 5 Jul 2007 (Forum)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/6270506.stm An Essex lady has been banned from driving for six months ....... Phillip Kelly, mitigating, told the court .......He also claimed she was "totally dependant" on her car. (But it is also reported she "passed her driving test just two weeks ago") I guess you can but ask :-) It is surprising how very quickly one becomes "totally dependant" on ones car. :-) -
Trader - no test drive? 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I think he thought I was a test pilot, not serious etc as I was vague about the other cars I had seen. He said I could drive it if I agreed to buy it first, ie I'd be driving it to test it was OK, not to try it out. Does this seem odd? -
I want to be a driving instructor... 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
After being turned down for promotion yet again, I think it's time for me to look for a new career. Been thinking of training to be a driving instructor. There always seems to be a few adverts in the papers for these jobs, I suppose what puts most people off is the initial cost of the training (about £2000 IIRC?) Are there any driving instructors on here that could give a few words of advice? -
Driving to the UK 2 Jun 2006 (Forum)
With the kids now being considered old enough, this summer will be the first one where we will drive to the UK. Other than the problem of having a German registration in the aftermath of the World Cup (have to hope that England have at least more success than Germany!) does the BR have any tips on what to look out for nowadays while driving in the UK? -
Driving Standards 11 Nov 2004 (Forum)
There have been a lot of posts recently along the lines of how much other drivers annoy us, scare us, wind us up or generally just drive like total muppets. As opposed to the criticisms, what constructive suggestions can the Back Room produce to improve general driving standards? The only idea that's really stayed with me is re-testing every couple of years. -
L-plates on Motorways 18 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Noticed that the government have decided (after 2 years deliberation) that learner drivers should not have motorway driving as part of their training. I personally know at least 2 people who won't drive on motorways as they find them frightening, if they had had motorway driving as part of their lesson or test would they feel the same way? -
Old Timers Driving Tests 4 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Clearing out the attic a week or two ago I found my fathers driving licence issued by the local county council in 1930 ( he was then 26 years old ). I wondered if he actually ever had to take a driving test? Sadly he's not around to ask any more. Any motoring historians out there - when did the car test become law and what sort of form did it take? -
Legal underage driving 21 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Am I right in thinking that driving off the highway does not require a licience? i.e. someone under 17 could drive in a private field legally. If that is right, does it follow that for a private field, read large empty supermarket car park.
