  • Towing a new caravan - what with? 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The problem is that a caravan to meet the family needs is around 1500Kg +/- A budget for a tow car with say 3-5,000 miles / year (not an every day car) I wanted to be <£10K. I had thought of a Honda Legend (3.5V6 - 2001/2003 vintage from say £7K), A Lexus GS300 (Staright 6 Yr 2000 Around £9-11K). Honda Accord Coupe3 Ltr V6 (£3-5K for 2001 and low mileage) What other come into the category of "worth considering" category - not really wanting a CRV/RAV4 as this they struggle a bit on hills with a caravan on the back and the bigger 4x4 are just to ungainly/van like IMHO.
  • My W Reg Vectra 23 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I don\'t think that it deserves the negative press and publicity that the car has attracted, but perhaps I would have a different view if I came from a background of driving BMWs, Mercs, Lexus etc.... Which leads to the question..... isn\'t it all relative? Cheers. TT.
  • First car-HELP!!! 8 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I am looking to buy my first car, at the moment i am driving about in my Mums H-Reg Mk 2 Astra 1.4. I quite like it but my mum says i am taking it over and my dad wont let me loose in his Lexus GS 300 (cant imagine why?). My parents have said they will chip in 4 a car, but my budget is realistically £1000, as i have to buy insurance etc. I know it is alot to ask but i want something different from my friends, e.g not a Escort or a Modifed Nova, which has a bit of class, but is nt going to get me a gary boy image.
  • BMW, Audi, Lexus - What to Choose??? 27 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Lexus is250 SE-L Auto Personally for me this car doesn't look as good as the BMW from the outside but also has it's pros and cons.
  • A cheap to run luxury(ish) car? Tough one... 25 May 2023 (Forum)
I'm very grateful to one of the site contributers at Ask John for suggesting my brother goes for a VW Golf mk 7 to replace his beloved Lexus CT200h Advance (2014 plate).  While he's loving the tech spec of the Golf and is warming to the fuel efficiency despite the cost of diesel, he's balking at the cockpit design.  To explain the following, he is neurodivergent (think Forest Gump but not as severe) and, whilst an excellent driver, he can be a stickler for things that someone us may not find important.
  • Next Car Advice/Recommendation... 27 Oct 2011 (Forum)
If you can name it then I’ve probably looked at it, Volvo S40/S60, Ford Focus/Mondeo, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW  3/5, Seat, Honda, Toyota anything in the mid/large hatchback/saloon category I have considered! The last two I was looking at were a Mercedes C Class with 150k and a Lexus IS200 S with 80k, both for around £3,000.
  • Petrol / Diesel Hybrid 27 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I start looking with the budget under £10k, petrol or diesel hybrid with auto gearbox. One  of my interest would be Lexus CT 200h, but I hope there are some other reliable cars. I like the size of small SUV Peugeot 3008, but read it the EGC gearbox is problematic.  Would you have any suggestions ? Thank you
  • Used Car Selection - Input Welcome 15 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Going from a late 90's Ford to a fairly modern car will be a welcome change. Currently looking at approved used Lexus GS\IS models that are within the current budget which is ideally no more than £26k. The later ES seems to be outside this budget. Criteria for the car loosely specified is: No older than 2017 No more than 15k miles Automatic transmission Suitable for long-term ownership 200k miles plus over 12-15 years Reasonable rear leg room Sat Nav Heads up display a nice bonus Reasonably relaxed motorway cruiser Originally was looking at the Prius and Corolla Tourer Hybrids but the other half was unimpressed by the rather harsh plastics.
  • ???? A5 / 5 series size - Motorway Car...advice appreciated 15 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I'll be doing approx 20,000 miles a year and look to keep it for 3ish years. Looking at the likes of VW Passat cc GT, A5, Merc CLK, Lexus IS220d, BMW 5 series or a Jag XF. If anyone can help me in my decision. What models should I be looking at / staying away from. Any common problems? I want general maintenance to be kept as low as possible and would hope for an mpg of aroung 50+.
  • toyota auris sr 1.6 petrol 2008 30k - creaking front suspension 12 Mar 2011 (Forum)
does anybody know if a slight creaking noise coming from the front end when for instance i put nearly full right hand lock when going one wheel up a drop down kerb is anything to worry about its only a slight creaking noise and last for a second or so. ive also heard it a couple of times when going very slowly over speed humps. my auris past a mot test yesterday at a toyota dealer with no problems at all the dealer couldnt get the noise to replecate itself when taken on a short test drive and didnt seem concerned. all the tech said was " even lexus' make a creaking noise when on full lock. the car has hardly been over speed humps in its entire life, so i dont think these have anything to do with it ?
  • Red light jumper fined 7 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Motorist fined £60 and given 3 points for jumping a red light. 'Quite right too...you would think. But this poor guy moved his Lexus 3 feet forward over the stop line to make room for a police van coming up behind him with blues and twos on ! Phillip Lilley asked for photo evidence of his crime and was amazed to be sent a picture of his car just over the stop line and the police van disappearing into the distance.

  • higher fuel prices = opportunities for luxury cars 20 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I only drive 6k miles p.a.and working part time make full use of a cheap rail fare to work. Looking at recent auction reports, I may soon be able to purchase that Lexus LS430 once prices hit £10k. We all know that the major cost of any car is depreciation, and I can afford £1000pa depreciation, and 25mpg with my small annual mileage, so at the risk of sounding dreadfully selfish, bring on the £2 per litre petrol...I may even be able to get a newish Spec B Legacy Tourer.
  • Cars to carry Bicycles 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
She has a variety of bikes (road, track, mountain bike, cyclocross) which she uses for racing and training. I have a lexus gs300 which is unsuitable for transporting bikes (tried a rack it takes too long and car/bikes get scratched)and do not want to change it my wife has a x reg corolla which hardly gets used so I put the bikes in the back but tio be honest it isnt v big and space is tight.
  • immobiliser is too effective! 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
They came, said it was an immobiliser issue since the red security light kept flashing, even after unlocking the car. The bloke said it would have to be towed back to Lexus on Monday morning. Eventually, someone told me to try disconnecting the battery, then reconnecting, and turning the key to ignition position and leaving it there for at least 6 minutes. Then take out and retry starting the car.
  • Volvo V70 vs back pain 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I need to find a car which has both driver and passenger seats that adjust to give a horizontal base, with lumbar support. The seats I know to be ideal are in the new Volvo 4x4, the Toyota Landcruiser and the Lexus people carrier, but I can't afford either to buy or to run any of them. Has anyone else had to move from Volvo because of the re-design? I'd be very grateful for advice about spine-friendly alternatives.
  • bad time to buy a 3 series? 19 Oct 2004 (Forum)
It's just that I test drove the 320d today, and I love the performance and drive plus the idea of 50 mpg (but does it really return that in the real world?). Don't really like the look of the imminent new A4, would never have another Merc, like Lexus but uneconomical petrol engines only, new Passat next year might be worth waiting for, Saab,Volvo,Honda etc don't appeal (car snobbery maybe, but residuals also, and not as good to drive) Reckon I can get £1500 off list on a new one; dealers seem to ask silly money for second hand ones, and whilst I'd buy second hand I wouldn't want anything more than a year old...

  • Toyota Avensis 2231cc - Jerking @1700rpm 12 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Is there any way of re-setting this feature so passenger door handles can open doors( alternative is driving with doors & boot unlocked) Have noticed Lexus have dropped the 2.2 diesel, is this engine not one of Toyota's finest? Any advice with the car gratefully recieved, had 2 Yaris' before no problems, Avensis not been great so far, tried a petrol 1.8, but felt flatter than a 1.0 Yaris, hence bought a Diesel Turbo.
  • Any - Help me decide on my next car (diesel) 5 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I've been looking at 3 year old i-dtec accords - but they're pricey on autotrader - around the same price as an equivalent 520d. I was considering a lexus 220d which is well below my budget, but i've heard some horror stories about the engine so it's put me right off I have also tinkered with the possibility of just buying an 'economical' petrol like the newer 1.8l avensis - but that would be a last resort really, So guys and gals - your opinions please
