Estate - Economical family estate car ideas! 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I would like an estate and people have mentioned some Japanese cars are good so need advice from people who are in the know! My priorities are: Big boot space, economical to tax insure and run, not too expensive to buy 2nd hand (around 3k to spend). Any advice gratefully received! I should add im not bothered about what's cool or what the car looks like particularly, more about it being efficient and economical to run. -

Citroen Xsara Picasso - High pitched whine from rear of car. 10 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It occurrs when the key is turned to the first position and also when the ignition is turned on and when the engine is running. I can't pinpoint where the sound is coming from. My local garage think that it might be that the diesel additive has run out but I got the impression that they weren't really sure. I've never heard of "diesel additive". -
Ford Mondeo 2.0LX TDCI - Flashing Glow Plug warning light 30 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I have had the plus changed and still it flashes. Other symptoms I have are bad starting 10 - 15 turnovers before it starts and then it runs rough with clouds of white smoke and a rattle in the engine. After a short while the engine settles down and I can pull away. The smoke then soon stops and after about a mile the engione runs normally. -

Vauxhall Astra - 1994 Vauxhall Astra Automatic not engaging Reverse 17 Apr 2012 (Forum)
My wifes trusty 1995 Astra 1.4 Auto has a reverse gear selection problem. Sometimes occaisonally cant select reverse, mainly when cold starting. By running the gear stick down and up through the gears back into reverse with engine running seems to cure this and the car is then ok until next cold start. All other gears ok. Gearbox is showing as overfilled with fluid on the dip stick Any ideas whats causing this annoying intermittent fault!? -

KIA Rio - Petrol consumption 5 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I bought a Rio Chill 58 plate in January and it's now showing about 16500 miles. I can't seem to average more than about 30mpg. I do mainly short runs around town but interspersed with longer runs most weeks, I try not to be lead footed. The car is under warranty until September this year and has been back to the dealer's twice, they apparently carried out diagnostic inspections but found no fault records. -

Vauxhall Corsa B 1.5td - Engine cuts after a few seconds 7 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Car has been sitting for a week or two in the freezing cold but started ok. I ran it for about 40miles and filled up with deisel, it was running great. Later I went to start it and it struggled, it would fire but die after a few seconds. I found that switching the ignition off then on when it started to die would keep it running. After a bit of revving and off/on on the ignition it ran perfectly again. -
