Renault Espace engine revving itself

The accelerator was no longer responding on our Espace and it was still picking up speed. I switched the engine off and then on again, and the car started revving itself.

Running on its sump oil. Either the level is too high or it is being siphoned into the turbo via a failed turbo bearing seal
