M-Way Madness - Empty Inside Lane! 6 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The main people guilty of this are the upmarket car possie in their pink fluffy dice X5s,anyone who is driving a merc, bmw, women(there will be some comments do doubt!),oaps driving micras or other slow moving cars and someone who is day dreaming and has no idea that faster moving traffic is behind them and they and others doing the same are causing the domino effect all down the outside lane. -
Buying a car at auction 24 Feb 2005 (Forum)
So far my research has got me to: Bought a login to auctionview, looked at lots of cars for sale. Read months worth of honest john's auction reports. The car I'm after is a 3yr old BMW 330d for around £10-12k, preferably with M3 alloys and leather. Questions for you lot are: 1. If I turn up at an auction, what should I wear? Jeans / tshirt? 2. How do I bid - hand in air? 3. -
My exciting day on Monday 11 Feb 2005 (Forum)
What suprised me most was our competitor comparisons, naturally the Focus handled superbly, we did slalom tests, sped it round a race track and also did an emergency lane change with professional instrusctors at our sides. I found the BMW was on a par with the Focus, although I know that it made use of it's ESP once to keep things in line, very nice car though. C4 was nice enough, and it handled reasonably, although the door handle had already broken on our test car... -
Golf Mk 5 Buying Decision 10 Jul 2004 (Forum)
While mine is the improved handling 2002 model it doesn't compare with the Mk 5, which can dart around corners and glides over road imperfections. Not sure how a BMW feels to drive, but there must be similarities. It was certainly comfier with much less road noise than my dad's Focus. I have since tried a TDI 105. This was a bit coarse sounding, reminiscent of mine before it was run in. -
A4 down the M4 19 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Got used to it but still annoying and not something I could live with. Chassis - very wooden with no flow as you would get in a modern Ford or BMW. Steering was lifeless with little feel. Rear seat space - very average for a car of this size. I know they want people to buy the A6, but the lack of space is inexcusable. 4 spoke steering wheel - triangular rim which was uncomfortable to hold (sports wheel would have been much better) Bose sound system - don't know how much this option costs but very average results. -
Appropriate Oil 12 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I know from reading HJ's books that fully synthetic oils scour engines very effectively, and that care is needed when changing from mineral to fully synthetic to avoid gallery blockage, that they last perhaps 2K longer between service intervals. and that Mobil ran a BMW for 100000 miles using it, with sevice intervals of 7K. On the other side of the coin few people achieve that milage within the life of their car, perhaps with several owners. Now that cars last a little longer before permanently falling foul of the MOT test, I keep my cars a longish time. -
Various - New Car??? - Replace writ off C Class Executive SE 8 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Others I’ve looked at CLS, but the interiors can be horrible and in my price range the sat nav/instruments seem really badly positioned (middle of centre console, new ones have them higher, but I can’t afford it), Jag XF, again some horrible wood/light seat combo’s, but if I found a good one then what are they like or do I stick with what I know? Discounted… BMW, don’t like the finish, think Merc and Audi feel and finish is so much better than what BMW can offer (apart from the 6 series, which again I can’t afford!), VW – hate their auto gear box, sluggish and seems to be in the wrong gear regularly and the only ones I like are cc GT’s (has a chain drive or something (I’m not very technical!) -

2022 Range Rover 30 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Plug in hybrid with 62 miles of range rechargable one hour (come to think of it that's not especially impressive), but with a max official range of 87 miles. 4.4 seconds 0-60 for the BMW (again LR ?!) v8. Tortional rigidity up 50% on the outgoing model. 0.30 drag coefficient Cabin filters that stop SARS and COVID pathogens Clearsight front camera system (you look through the centre screen and it's as if the front of the car is see through so you can place the wheels) 3 feet wading depth. -
I need help choosing my next car... 6 Jul 2021 (Forum)
The closest I've got to actually making it selection was the Volvo XC60 inscription pro, but I'm struggling to find the car for my budget. I have test driven BMWs Audis Volvo Mazda Ford so far – all good cars, but didn’t get on with the Ford/Mazda because of my height. I do find myself struggling between choosing between a lease (because I know it's only going to be for three years), a nearly new, or older ‘better built’ car. -
Mercedes E300 Cabriolet - Disc pads and disk brakes. 22 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I've found the dealer to be dreadful and MB to take no ownership of any issue I have had (front end suspension failed when it was 9 months old and they didnt want to know). I would never, ever purchase a merc again. Owned 3 and 4 series BMWs over the past 12 years, and never once had to replace either the disks or the brakes at the 2 year mark, and those had considerably higher mileage. -
Bring back the Coupe 29 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Today the single person or couple with smaller or no children have no options beyond expensive German metal for a sporty looking Coupe which kills it for me as I’m no fan of BMW, Mercedes or Audi mainly due to the nasty image. The Toyota GT86 is great but it’s not practical like a Calibra or 406 Coupe. I’d love a modern day Capri based on say the Focus or a Calibra based on the current Astra or Insignia. -
Diesel estates for motorway driving- 33k miles p/a 20 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Cars I've looked at thus far: Audi A4 Avant (Ultra models), Mercedez C class (bluetec/blueefficiency models), Mazda 6 Tourer, BMW 3 series Gran Turismo (not an Estate, butit caught my eye). If you were in my position, what would you do? I spend around 2 days a month in my car so I'd like somewhere a little more cosy to call home. -
Golf GTE and others - Power train options excluding diesel 1 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I fear for the future of the large European companies, if the Chinese or Koreans crack the alternatives and produce cars that people want to buy (Including SUVs) in a way that can scale, and with the quality Europeans like, I don't see that VW, FCA. PSA. BMW etc are positioning themselves to respond. -
Some help needed with car lease 18 May 2017 (Forum)
Mazda 3 Fastback Sport-nav Skyactiv-D 2.2 The ‘wildcard’ choice is (and surpringly cheaper option of the three) BMW 330e sport trim. Now I would really appreciate honest advice, opinion and entertaining rants to help me decide. Thanks -
Need help in deciding a Crossover vehicle 15 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Nissan Qashqai / Renault Kadjar (1.5 engine might be under powered for my daily driving and the rear passenger space is very crammed) In general I like Symmetrical vehicles so I'm not considering vehicles like Ford Kuga, Skoda Yeti, Citroen C4 Cactus, Honda CR-V, BMW X1 which are a bit odd shaped. If I find a CX5 or Q3 which is 3 years old and done less than 50K miles and is below £15K, shall I go for it? -
Company Car choice 14 Dec 2015 (Forum)
What's the better model of these, I like the Merc but I have read online its actually not a comfortable car on longer trips and the Mini is noisy? I sat in the pre-facelift BMW when we bought the Focus but remember it felt cheap - is this better now? Mostly its just myself or the other half in the car so space isn't a massive issue but we do have a lot of luggage usually. -
Sold the S-Max; Now what to get? 2 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I run a growing company of Chartered Surveyors and my Commercial Director said it was about time to upgrade for 'image reasons' as much as anything else. I need to project a successful professional image - so no Range Rovers or BMW X5. The S-Max has served us very well and apart from a £395 rear shock absorber, it has required no repairs. Everything has worked very well especially the Electric Handbrake! So, what do I replace it with? -
LPG : which system is best? 11 Jan 2014 (Forum)
t seem to be doing their homework and matching the LPG system to their cars engine/power requirements, leading to problems such as loss of power, no revs etc. Finally, ( I heard that sigh of relief ! ) which system would backroomers recommend for the BMW 3.5ltr 12 valve straight 6 ? (circa 1984-1992) Regards, Chad.R -
Ford Focus - Family car options to replace a Mk1 Focus 15 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I start a new job in January with a 20 mile daily commute and sometimes more if visiting clients and am deciding again whether to go down the company car or car allowance route, if I went with the allowance I'd have to either use the 325 which would mean changing the Focus for something with 5 doors for my wife. Alternativly my wife can carry on using the BMW but I'd have to change the focus for something a little more corporate/newer/etc. Say I go back to the 325 then we need to change out the faithful focus for a 5 door alternative for my wife.
