  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.8 TDi - Lack of acceleration 18 Feb 2008 (Forum)
It seems to take a long time to accelerate to the top speeds of the car. (A new air filter did not remedy this). No oil is being lost and fuel consumption is normal.
  • Mercedes Benz - Vito van, 02 reg, 109CDi takes an age to start 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I have had the two small seals (1 black and 1 green) changed on the fuel pump, and it now starts eventually! however I think that it should start within a couple revolutions. Any idea's of where else I could have a problem? Many thanks

  • Vauxhall (Fiat) 1.3 CDTI engines 4 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I am looking at an Astra with a 89 BHP version fitted to it. Yes I know it will be slow compared to the 1.7 100bhp or the 1.9 engine but fuel economy is the number one priority for the car.

  • Premium diesel + cleaners 8 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Just finished a test on my car after running the Redex Gold diesel injector treatment through it. With 40 litres of cheap 'n' nasty Esso diesel in followed by 20 litres of BP Ultimate, the fuel economy went from 44 to 51mpg. I was exceptionally sceptical so am continuing to test with cheap diesel to see if the benefits last. If not, it's back onto the Ultimate. :)
  • For customers use only .. 10 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Now if I have spent 35 quid on fuel mid week at the local filling station I have no problem popping in at the weekend to do the tyres even though I don't always make a purchase at the same time. However I know that others think it is a real cheek to pull up on to a forecourt to use the free air machine without making a purchase.
  • Astra MK3 1.4 MPI wont start.Crankshaft? 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The car (Astra MK3 1.4 MPI C14SE) has suddenly stopped working :( (just as I was about to sell it as well, typical) The engine turns over, but wont start. Fuel is getting through and there is a spark at the plugs. The starter motor is fine, there is also an occasional popping through the air filter. Could this be the crankshaft sensor or something else? Thanks :D
  • Merc coolant change 28 May 2005 (Forum)
I've been told by my local MB dealer that as my Merc CDI has a chassis no. starting with WDC something... that it doesn't need a coolant change for 15yrs!! They also say there is no need to change the fuel filter for 5yrs. Is this correct or are they just saying this as it would mean one of the fitters would need to get on the floor to reach the drain plug and possibly get oil on his overalls!!
  • Chevrolet Blazer, anyone got one? 6 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I like the look of them and and thinking of buying one to tow our caravan. What I'm really interested in is 1, Fuel consumption 2, Spares costs. 3. Reliability and longetivity Theres a few over here in RHD form and being US made, I'm assuming they go on forever. They certainly look the part!
  • Volvo 440 diesel cuts out 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
It cut out completely yesterday, but re-started ok with some more diesel even though the gauge was well into the black. Is this noise the symptom of a duff fuel pump? I would have thought at least the pump would be driven off a toothed belt.
  • Mondeo leaking injector 1 Jan 2005 (Forum)
One of the fuel injectors on my Mondeo 1.8 TD is leaking. Is this likely to be something simple such as needing tightening or a seal replaced, or is the injector itself likely to need replacing? Not having a large enough socket I have not been able to remove it to investigate.

  • Focus hidden speedometer function 1 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Am I dreaming, or did I once read about a hidden menu on the mileometer readout of the Ford Focus? Maybe some kind of OBD readouts, digital RPM guage and more accutate fuel reading or something like that? I have tried to do a forum search, but havent found anything yet. Google hasn't helped me either. Thanks in advance
  • mondeo misfire? 7 Jun 2004 (Forum)
when i drive my mondy i get a misfire at about 2500 to 3000 rpm. it's ok when accelerating and it's ok at idle, it just misfires when i coast or on gentle deceleration. it's a 2000 zetec 16v 1998 and it's 100k+ miles. the fuel economy is really good most of the time as i do motorway driving and i dont drive it hard.
  • Adding an intercooler to a Land Rover 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Of course the turbo boost would have to then be turned up to maximise performance, but do I need to fiddle with the injection pump to put more fuel in the cylinder, or is this done automatically?
  • Typical lifetime of a diesel injector? 20 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I believe haynes suggest replacing at 80k for a pug 306. Mines is on 127k and original injectors, and is running okay. However, fuel consumption is slightly below average, but then again I do have a slightly heavy foot.
