hot wiring 24 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I have provided a + and - to the coil direct from battery, then turned the engine over using the starter. I am not getting a spark from the HT leads? Does the body of the coil need an earth? Is it a live or earth wire which goes into the distributor? Thanks Ste -

We are running an unconverted Volvo244GLT 2.3ltr.on Lead replacement petrol. We have been advised that the " Broquet Fuel Catalyst" could possibly resolve the problem of using LRP and improve performance /consumption.Does anyone have any experience of this catalyst and would it be worth installing/ using the "in Tank"version..as we are only doing 3000miles per annum?? -

Any - Electronic parking brake - Why? 5 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Call me cynical but could it be a ploy by manufacturers to fit more complicated electrical systems to cars leading to ever increasing repair bills? -
Kangaroo cars 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
A second time was after having the clutch was replaced. The engine would die and suddenly surge. I took the car back several times only to have the lead mechanic perform a diagnostic test and say with transparent honesty and hand on heart that there was nothing wrong and it was the way that I was driving. After a particularly dangerous situation I spent time examining the engine and found that the same lead mechanic had not reconnected the crank position sensor securely. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 Misfire - advice needed! 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
When I took the car to my local garage the next day he/the computer diagnosed a misfire on the number 3 cylinder which he said could be down to the spark plugs and plug leads needing to be replaced or the coil pack. The plugs and leads being the cheaper option he did this. After I picked the car up it was miles better but when I put my foot to the floor there still seems to be a hesitation/power loss but the engine light isn't on. -
96N Peugeot 405 19.TD oil in air box 3 Mar 2006 (Forum)
On having a look, I noticed that the oil seemed to be entering the filter box from a breather hose at the bottom of the box, which seems to lead to a valve on the left hand side (when engine is viewed from the driver's seat) of the intercooler. There is a separate hose (which seems to be very oily) leading from the valve, and it then disappears under the intercooler - am guessing it is a rocker cover breather hose - will have a chance for a proper look on monday when I change the rocker cover gasket. -

SAAB (mostly) cold starting problem 4 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Once the day warms up a bit it usually starts OK but this is not much use to her as she needs it to get to work. She's had the battery and plugs checked and the HT leads and distributor cap changed with no success. I've suggested they get the coil and lead changed which they are doing this week but this is clutching at straws. Also I've checked the fuel pump is working. -
Focus Hesitation 3 Sep 2003 (Forum)
SWMBO went to the local Ford dealers to get the plugs and was told by the stores man that Focus's where known to misfire and the problem was either plugs, leads or the coil. I do not thing it is leads as in my experience they normally affect one cylinder and in fact it feels a bit like fuel starvation, however the fact that new plugs appeared to make a difference makes me wonder if it is electrical. -
What's the Silliest Thing ... ? 6 Mar 2002 (Forum)
This entailed lodging the battery charger under the bonnet, which I closed for security, and trailing a lead to a power point in the garage. Rushing out late for work in the morning, I started the Triumph and was greeted with an almighty commotion as the trailing lead caught up on the crankshaft-mounted cooling fan, yanking the charger into the fan so hard that it bent one of the aluminium fan blades over at right angles and sliced a neat core out of the radiator. -
M 11 Money-earner 7 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Which leads to the assunption that if that speed is unsafe and the limit justified there should be 2,000 accidents per day, or close shaves that have only been avoided by luck or the skill of the drivers. In fact there are very few accidents on that stretch (about one every three months at a guess). -

Ford recall these three cylinder engines The recall involves the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine on the EcoSport and Focus. The recall affects 1,39,790 units. A faulty belt tensioner may lead to loss of oil pressure that could damage or seize the engine.2 -
Tyre pressures - again 2 Dec 2018 (Forum)
Most of us aim to keep our tyres pumped somewhere near maker's recommendations, and we know that over- or under-inflation can lead to undesirable tyre wear. But I have never seen any indication of how far it is permissible to go from recommendation before that becomes significant - in other words a plus-or-minus figure. Any suggestions? -
