  • Renault Clio - Poor MPG 28 Jul 2024 (Forum)
On another note , Is the Red X DPF for use to to keep the filter clean or is it used if you have a blocked DPF as stated on the instructions. TBH We don't cover many miles a week and the car is only used for travelling to work which is a 12 mile round trip and we are lucky to cover 5000 miles a year, So the Engine doesn't really get time to get warmed up but after 7 years of owning the car, We have never really had many issues but i would like to increase the MPG.

  • Mazda 6 - Petrol or Diesel 9 Feb 2017 (Forum)
However despite this I read the advise is now against diesel especiially with the advent of the DPF. I have read all the issues surrounding the Mazda 6 2.0 diesel with regards to the DPF and believe this has been sorted in the new 2.2 version. However would we still encounter issues if we puchased the Mazda6 2.2 diesel for our purposes.
  • Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 TDCI 09 plate - Ford Focus 09 - loss of power, intermittant 24 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I'm not very technical I'm afraid, and it's just passed it's service - they couldn't see any obvious faults anywhere. I have had the DPF replaced as well, and this was happening prior to then (the DPF was causing a seperate stuttering issue). Thanks!
  • Large Family Estate Recommendations 16 May 2013 (Forum)
I'd like the car to handle well and not be too sluggish as I'm currently driving a 03 Mondeo hatch 2L 136PSI TDCi  I'd ideally like to buy 2 to 3 years old with max of 60,000 on the clock. I was looking at either a Mazda 6 or Mondeo diesel but I'm concerned about the DPF. Although I do around 12,000 miles per year. My daily commute is only 4.5 miles extended to 9 miles if a school/nursery drop off is involved. Am I right to be concerned about likely DPF problems. If I look at petrol cars my only option seems to be a Toyato Avenis V-matic?
  • Any - LPG or Diesel 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
So my question is are those cars I mentioned actually suitable for LPG systems, as I heard not all makes and models are. Is anyone aware of LPG issues like the DPF's in diesels? and finally is it not just worth the risk on either Diesel or LPG and stick to petrol and take the hit on extra fuel costs but less garage repair bills. Any advise appreciated, thank you

  • VAG - Exhaust Manifold in Cylinder Head 29 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Do you know if VAG has started to adopt the "Manifold in Head" technology that other makers (GM, Renault) have used to good effect in attempting to eliminate DPF problems in their diesel engines?

  • Peugeot 307 2.0 hdi 110 bhp - Poor fuel economy - 37mpg motorway cruising 21 Jan 2017 (Forum)
    - Air filter new - Tried unplugging MAF but no difference to mpg - sprayed MAF with contact cleaner - can't find any split turbo pipes or hear any leaks. - DPF has recently been jet washed out and not showing as blocked in PP2000 - DPF regent taking place average 600Km, last regen 400Km ago. Elios fluid level 60% - I can hear turbo kicking in and see waste gate arm moving when revved - I can see on PP2000 the EGR opening/closing as normal.
  • Mazda 6 - 2006 Mazda 6 Diesel low performance, no CEL 3 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I got P0402 (EGR excessive flow) code once, I was cruising on highway in 6th speed and TCS + CEL came on dashboard, checked it on OBD reader, cleared and never seen it again. My only guess is that DPF is clogged, but I don't get DPF warning light. Sometimes I get double digits on current consumption, just in case it helps to sort out this issue. Any help would be very appreciated. Sorry for the long post and thanks.
  • Any - How long does an exhaust pipe last? 7 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I’ve owned cars for 30 odd years now and in that time, I’ve replaced one exhaust pipe on a Japanese import Nissan Figaro that we’ve had for 18 years. Have had both petrol and diesel cars (pre DPF, with a nice lining of soot in the exhaust and with DPFs) and in perhaps 350,000 miles over that 30 odd years, aside from one exhaust for the Figaro, I’ve never replaced any exhaust components, even on cars that I’ve run for longer than 10 years.
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 09-02-2019 Part 1 12 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Indeed, the questioner says it was purchased with an MOT. Isn't emissions part of the MOT test? If the DPF had been cut in half and internals removed, should the car have passed an MOT? It may well have been something that was overlooked on the MOT, but questioner had been driving the car for 6mth / 8000miles without error.
  • ford focus diesel tdci - focus help 25 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Where to start, 3 weeks ago my 1.6 diesel focus TDCI went in to limp mode... took it to the garage and codes read DPF filter, i had i chemically flushed and all was well. yesterday went into limp mode again displaying Engine systems fault, so back to the garage. the mechanic who i know is very experienced and trustworthy ran another diagnostic this time dpf, power steering, battery and alternator codes have came up, he has check these faults and they are all fine, he seems to think this could be a software problem or a wiring issue, i told him i did not want to spent hundreds on this car valuved at £1000 so he advised me to fined a mechanic who will fiddle around with the software and maybe to BLOCK the codes from coming up and sending it into limp mode.
  • VW Amarok 2012 - Warer pump failed Limp mode 18 Jul 2017 (Forum)
They said the water pump has gone and is covered but my DPF needs degenerating and my air filter is soiled so needs replacing. These 2 are not covered under warranty.  Surely all the faults are related to each other and they should be paying for all repairs?
  • Ford Mondeo '09 1.8 TDCi - Engine fan noise after switching off 24 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I have only had the car about 6 weeks, and it's just started doing it the last few days. I've read some posts that suggest this might be the DPF regenerating.  This has however happened for the last 3 or 4 consecutive days, at both ends of my journey to/from work (abut 17 miles, mostly motorway) Is this a DPF regen?  Should it eb happening so often?
  • Vauxhall Zafira - Inlet manifold 3 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Apparently needs a new inlet manifold and have been quoted just shy of £1000. Does this sound right? I've just spent £900 on a new DPF and EGR valve!!
  • Diesel Cars now that the price has dropped 9 Aug 2015 (Forum)
With the drop in diesel prices at the pumps, does a diesel car make sense now in low mileage situations if a long drive once or twice per week is achieved to enable the DPF to work correctly?   Thanks!
