  Anyone else noticed petrol and diesel prices creeping up recently? It’s being blamed in distribution issues caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, despite the fact that we haven’t imported any from Russia this year. And supermarkets holding onto a greater margin on fuel sales.

  Will it start running again if some fuel is poured in its tank? Or running dry will cause serious damage to engine? Is the situation different in petrol or Diesel cars? I'm asking because recently on occasions I found that car ran out of fuel slightly away from petrol station and blokes are filling from a jerry can.

  Could someone please tell me what is meant by higher detergent fuel? I currently use bog standard BP unleaded (95 RON) but was reading an article the other day which talked about swapping to a higher detergent fuel ... but I don't know what that would be. Local station only sells unleaded (95 RON), super unleaded (97 RON) and diesel.

  I do 2 80 miles motorway trips a week (160 total) and commute 4 miles to work and other general errands. I have a diesel at the moment but what fuel type would be recommend for this?

  Hi, £20 of diesel has been added to petrol engine on Fiat Ducato van. The engine was started once then stalled. What is required to remove the fuel? (is there a plug to the petrol tank) What needs to be replaced aswell?

  Despite Mr Brown adding 1 1/2p to the price of fuel, isn't it odd how both my local Sainsburies and local Esso have just hiked their diesel by 4p?! Very strange! Anyone else noticed that?

  I have a diesel engine. I have noticed that the fuel line from the fuel tank to the engine (going through the fuel filter) every morning (or after a few hours sitting) no longer has fuel in it, and won't start, it just keeps trying to start but not catching (becuase there is no fuel in the engine).

  I can get 60+ mpg on a 10 mile + journey but should I make a few stops on the way and the consumption goes way up (28mpg), like there's a tap opened somewhere....

  If so what is available and how the heck can one search for models available? I know of a man locally running a factory spec dual fuel Vauxhall, plus a retrofit Honda, both of which he is very pleased with. I would otherwise be a diesel "nut" but with all the newly developed problems/technologies am a wee bit circumspect about purchasing diesel again looking to do 200,000 plus miles over 10 plus years in any car purchased Cos I absolutly hate giving car dealers  money cheers M

  Fuel's more expensive, cost more to maintain and service, and I hear endless stories of blown turbos etc. Gimme a petrol any day.

  I have a citroen berlingo diesel van year 2001 the fuel gauge is very eratic all the time and moves all the time very fast Have been told it may be the PCB behind dash but i do not think this is the problem Can any one help please Martin

  I am contemplating changing my Ford Fusion diesel and am considering the Renault Modus dci 86, New Corsa diesel and new Fiat Grand Punto diesel. As I am a scrooge like motorist looking to use as little fuel as possible I wondered if anyone knows how realistic the claimed figures are?

  Since then my boyfriend has checked the glow plugs, they are all worling okay.He has checked that there is no air in the fuel system and that there is a supply of fuel to the injectors. He has checked that there is power going to the cold start device and fuel cut off solenoid. He has checked that the cam belt isn't snapped.

  I recently used Shell V-Power in my 2005 MINI Cooper S and 2007 BMW 320d to see if it gave better fuel consumption over 'cooking' petrol/diesel. Total mileage of test approx 3,000. Result: no meaninful - if any - improvement. Conclusion (for me and my cars): premium fuel = waste of money. Of late I have taken to accelerating harder up to the speed I'm aiming for, and I THINK this improves consumption a bit.

  I\'ve a newish Omage 2.2 DTI that\'s had misfire below 2,000 rmp for the last 10,000 miles. The dealer has tried everything to cure it (new ECU, remove and flush fuel system etc) and I was on the point of getting rid of the car. At the last visit they said avoid BP fuel, which as it happens I almost always use. Something about a high bio-diesel content and a known problem with Ford diesels.

  My first car is a 3 years old SEAT and it has packed-up 5 days outside the Warrantee. The engine has been wrecked by the leakage of diesel into the engine oil and with weakened lubrication the oil pump has failed, etc. Is this a common fault? How did the oil make its way into the sump?  I have read of failures of fuel injector seals - could this be the problem?

  Hi can anyone please help my 06 reg grandis run out of diesel and now won't start the aa and several mechanics have looked at and still can not find the problem the car turns over fine and fires up for short periods on easy start. All diagnostics show nothing except last one did show low fuel pressure I have had the pump out of the fuel tank and that seems to be working does anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be

  My 05 diesel vectra has developed a whining noise. It increases under acceleration and decreases when you lift off. It only started after the car was not Pulling through fuel over 2000 revs in any gear, I floored it and it seemed to clear it but then the whining noise started.

  Car has done 33k miles.Started making a rattly noise when increasing throttle also going uphill.No loss of performance. Engine tested(computer) by two Toyota agencies-nothing found. Some "diesel " folk tell me it may be a dirty EGR valve and Injectors! please explain?Also told not to use supermarket fuel. I am starting to use Shell V fuel if that helps-will it take a while to clear? Will there have been any engine damage done?
