Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - Battery - when to replace 15 Dec 2008 (Forum)
After the car had been standing for four days I went to start it only to get the dreaded clicking that accompanies winter temperatures. The car is on its original battery (a 66AH) I left the battery on charge yesterday and the car fired up fine after 8 hours. As part of my test/process of elimination I went out this morning expecting it to either not turn or sound pretty sick - thus indicating that the battery can no longer hold charge and needs to be replaced. -
Skoda Felicia door lock/battery problem 22 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi all - Mrs V's beloved car has been suffering from a battery problem for some time. The car's not much used and we find after about 10 days the battery goes flat. Recently, although the car would start, we'd find it'd lose revs and cut out when the clutch was depressed. -
Exploding Batteries 7 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Hi all I went out and tried to start up my Mondeo today (97MY Verona) and as I turned the key there was a loud bang and a plume of smoke emitted from the front left of the bonnet (where the battery is). I had a look and the battery had literally exploded chucking/dripping acid around the inside of the engine bay - the securing bracket held what was left of the case in situ. I called the RAC and 40 mins later they were out , and replaced the battery for me...he also flushed out where the battery had been with water. -
Battery mystery 23 Aug 2002 (Forum)
The replacement battery delivered 10.5 volts when operating the starter, which is fine from what I have read, but the cranking speed didn't seem a lot better, even after I had charged the battery in case it had lost charge while sitting in the shop. -
2010 Honda CRV 2.2 iDtec - Upgrading to an AGM battery 3 Feb 2020 (Forum)
My battery is showing it's age and have been deciding on it's replacement. I am a great believer in having power in reserve and after a bit of research I read on one site that it was a worthwhile upgrade fitting an AGM battery if you are not doing many miles and mostly short runs. -

Micra k12 1.2 - Micra battery drain problem 6 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2005 Micra 1.2 that runs its battery down over a period of a week if the car is not used. I have eliminated the battery as this has been replaced and the new one has been tested. I have checked the current drain on the battery when the vehicle is parked and it appears to always be at least 200mA, I have read it should only be around 30mA. -
Citroen Picasso xsara 1.6HDi 90 HP - Negative battery wire bolted to the chassis 2 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Does any menber know where the negatve battery wire is bolted to the cahassis / body (battery is under passenger seat) .The positve wire runs under the floor and emerges at a terminal block under bonnet. But the negative dissapears under the floor, Heynes manual says near battery. not a lot of use as every where is carpeted and stuck downThe reason apart from curiosity is that I have had engine turn over problems and want to check for corrosion, I have put a heavty load on and checked for volt drop from battery terminal to engine block, but would still like to know where the bonding point is. -
Ford Mondeo III 1.8 LX - Battery replacement 28 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Halfords do Bosch 'Silver' batteries or Halfords branded 'Calcium' batteries, both of which come up when my car details are entered, but then again so do their Lead Acid versions, so I'm not sure how trustworthy the suggestions are. -
Your new (elderly) Battery 27 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Roamed around a few accessory places this AM. With nothing else much to do, looked at batteries. Startling really - all `filled` and sitting there deteriorating. Some shops have great piles of them with what looks like years of dust and even in the biggest place in town -- a 2008 code on a premium battery. -
Car battery - Honda Prelude 6 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Okay, this is starting to take the michael now. I had an old battery for my Honda Prelude (Which I kept having to recharge once a week). However, I bought a new one for £69.99 from Halfords (One from the new Calcium HCB Range). I bought it on the 5th May. Just tried starting car, and battery is dead. -
volvo 440 battery light flicker..... 23 Sep 2005 (Forum)
does anyone have any ideas what could be causing my battery light to flicker (at low revs) and glow bright at high revs. i have tested the alternator (13.5-14.6v) and the battery loaded and unloaded, neither reading below 13v. the voltage regulator in the alternator is fine too as it is giving out a nice even charge (no surges) the only key events that could possibly of contributed are , 1. the battery in the remote keyfob became flat causing the imobilisor diode to flash constantly when engine runs 2.the battery on the car was totally flat one morning, but charged fine and hasnt run down again i am totally confused as i have tried all the sensible diagnostics and still am non the wiser , the beers are on me if someone has a good solution!! -
Matinee Performance 21 May 2005 (Forum)
Two salesmen trying to start a brand new car which had been standing in the showroom for over four weeks. Initial attempt showed flat battery, salesman 1 brought in a battery pack on wheels and connected it to car's battery; big crackle and spark. Salesman 2 attempts start, nothing happens for two minutes but battery pack starts to become exhausted, so he continues turning engine but at the same time pumping the accelerator. -
Solar Battery Charger 2 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Now to the "subject" of this post! Has anyone any experience of the Solar trickle chargers that are available. The Smart Battery Saver has an output of 1.8amp, is this enough to keep the battery healthy? -
What size battery? 3 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Technical query arising from the demise of my 405 battery this am. I have always bought the largest good quality battery that is recommended for any car I have (for example fitting a 44AH instead of the stock 38AH one) or fitting one for diesel instead of the one required for petrol. -
Fiat flat battery 15 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Several weeks ago there was a thread about batteries going flat - I cant' remember the vehicle make, or the outcome but I thought this bit of info would be an interesting follow up. A couple of weeks ago a pal of mine had the battery go flat on his wife's new Seicento after they'd left it to go on holiday - only one week. -

Ford Fiesta ST - Battery charging 6 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Hi, I've just started charging my car battery and looking for some advice. The car is a 2014 Fiesta ST and the charger I'm using us a CTEK MXS 5.0 Fully Automatic Charger. The charger has a reconditioning mode which uses a higher voltage of up to 15.8V, and I'm wondering if this is safe because I haven't disconnected the battery from the car - the instructions for the charger didn't mention that. -
