Future advances in car technology 9 May 2009 (Forum)
Cars will only work by fingerprint recognition of the person entitled to drive so can never be stolen or driven illegally. If your insurance expires or you cancel the policy, the insurance co will send a radio signal to the car usng existing mobile phone technology. The next time you go to drive your uninsured car, it simply won't start. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 03 1.9TDi S 130 - intermittant non starting 17 Nov 2008 (Forum)
ALSO with this problem, I get an ABS + ESP light coming on for a few seconds now and again and going off, doesn't affect driving, but did for some reason turn the radio off and back on again, I dread to think what this could be - maybe electrical or wiring or just a faulty ABS sensor? Thanks a lot if you have any ideas before it next goes into a garage for yet more cash going on it. -
Renault Safrane (1992 - 2000) - 1995 2.2vi overfuelling/rough running on start 10 Nov 2008 (Forum)
In my exasperation I called the RAC to witness the rough running / petrol smell which eventually cured before their eyes - the RAC man radioed a colleague, describing my Safrane as having a "female problem - being unpredictable"...It's probably best if I don't agree with that! I would, however, really appreciate any helpful comments or suggestions please? -
Crash & cash it scam 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
This was on the radio today and is very common practice - apparently. Probably old hat and has been flogged to death already... ...but just in case it has not, I pass the info on. SCENARIO You are tootling down the road minding your own business. -
Citroen C1 (2005 - ) - Have you driven one? 1 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I wonder if the better equipped models deal with these issues (well some of the them)? Overall, a five door automatic version would suit me quite well if it had a/c, radio controls on the steering wheel, you could get into the boot without requiring the key and I could get comfortable more quickly. -
Help please! Before I'm priced off the road... 3 Jan 2008 (Forum)
A large towing capability would be an asset, but this will put us into heavy 4x4 territory, an area that we're trying to leave due to congestion charges, the new London LEZ and other anti-4x4 legislation that is crippling us. We're not bothered if the vehicle has electric windows, air-conditioning, a radio, central-locking etc as our present car has none of these things so we won't miss what we've never had! The only essential criteria is that the drivers headroom must be in excess of 1030mm. (At a motor show I sat in the new Discovery 3 which has the drivers headroom listed at 1030mm. -
Peugeot/Citroen TD / XUD starter 10 Feb 2007 (Forum)
8mm Allen bit with a ratchet, assorted metric ring spanners and a flat head screwdriver. Disconnect the -ve terminal of the battery first - and note your radio code if needed. Remove the air cleaner - the big box on the right, by unclipping the three fasteners at its base. Disconnect the three pipes that go in by loosening the jubilee clips. The large rigid plastic pipe that crosses the front needs to be disconnected on the left, and the inlet pipe taken off above the radiator. -
Mazda 3 mini road test 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The dashboard is too fussy, the dials are buried deep in tunnels and are not all visible with a quick sweep of the eyes across the dash, unlike my Subaru or SWMBO Hyundai. The radio seems to be very good, but as I had no manual , it was also complicated. Its the first time I have driven a Tiptronic except a Merc. I can't quiet explain, but I prefer the Merc system of flicking left to right when in D, rather than a separate manual shift section. -
Insurance scam, be warned. 26 Nov 2005 (Forum)
There was a report on Radio 5 Live yesterday about a scam in the Manchester area, it is apparently getting quite common. They interviewed a driver who had been following another car onto a roundabout with no other traffic in sight, the other car suddenly braked hard and the driver lightly bumped the back of it. -
BMW 318se , Unlucky Thursday ? 11 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Additional the dealer has prommised many things and not delivered , I honestly believe they think I will give up and walk away , well I have, but not without a fight on their hands for a full refund (maybe compensation too). Considering this maybe a fault in my area with radio frequencies I contacted my local BMW dealer to explain my disgust and there response was "There is nothing wrong with your car , that is as far as we go ". Warning To ALL! If you buy a BMW , borrow it for a week or so first to check in works where you live , because BMW will not help if it doesn't . -

Sensible councillor prevails!!! 20 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Local councillor on the radio this evening has publicly stated that the council have no intention of reducing a speed limit! Near to where I live is an upper secondary school, pupils from 14 and above, it is sited on one side of a dual carriageway A-road, all the housing is on the other side of the road; and I mean ALL the housing. -

BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - 325d 2nd Impression 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Finally work out how to control iPod from radio. Previously could only get one track, which became tedious after a few days. The same one all the time. Seems quaint only having a two line display after a desk full of 20" screens. Reminds me of DOS days. -
Suzuki Vitara - High pitched sound when driving 24 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I don't notice it on lower speeds and have experienced it on both windy and non-windy days. It's making long journeys a bit unbearable as the sound can still be heard over the radio. I took the car into a Suzuki dealer last week to take a look and they said that they would do a safety inspection but could only do a limited test drive. The car has come back and they said they couldn't hear the noise on the test drive (no big surprise as they did say the would only do a limited test drive) but suggested it might be from the brakes i.e. the pads or discs heating up after a while and somehow causing the sound - they suggested stripping and cleaning all break pads as a precaution. -
Citroen C4 - Citroen C4 - Anti Theft / Engine won't crank 16 Feb 2022 (Forum)
The car wouldn't start, but there didn't sound like any attempt for the engine to crank. Lights come on, as does radio, wipers etc all at once, which led me to believe the battery was ok, or if it didn't have enough charge it may give a feeble crank of the engine. This led me to believe that there may be a problem with the immobiliser and my partner did spot a fault message in french regarding anti theft.
