BMW 1 Series - Where do I legally stand - Car Repairs 30 Mar 2016 (Forum)
The mechanic ran a full diagnostics on the car and said my chain is showing signs of wear and tear which will need to be replaced. He also mentioned that I would need an exhaust vanos solenoid (which I purchased the part from a BMW dealership on my own accord). The mechanic said to me that the job will cost £900, I mentioned to him thats out of my price range and I said to him that I will take my car back home as I'm not willing to pay that. -
Why DO we have to have such wide tyres these days? 19 Feb 2013 (Forum)
But I could be forgiven for concluding that BMW cars do appear to have a greater need for them! As it happens, the best 2WD car I have experienced in snow was rear-wheel-drive after all: But it was a Skoda Estelle ;-)) It went up hills like they were bone-dry. -
An extended test drive of a new shape Audi A6. 12 Mar 2012 (Forum)
A BMW 520d SE is delivered at the end of the month for a four day test so I’ll let you know my thoughts. If you have any questions about the Audi, please ask and I’ll try to answer them. -
Underside rust 18 Feb 2023 (Forum)
It looks like the car gods, don't want to me to buy a replacement car!. I did see a BMW (3 series - 2015), but put off by reliability and cost of maintenance. I have an aversion to high repair bills or being off-road without a car. My list is getting smaller - no diesels, no cars with turbo, no 3 cylinder cars, no cars with trailer hooks etc.... -
Buying a used car, looking for advice or opinions 14 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I am looking at a 2012 XJ Supersport (not sure about the XFR as an alternative seems to have less kit and maybe a bit more cramped inside). the F10 era BMW M5's (looks to be a bit behind the XJ in terms of kit but possibly sportier to drive?) Also the 4.0 V8 M3's (E90 E92) but not sure how they are for space. Then a selection of AMG Mercs the E63 and C63, some with the 6.3 and others with the 5.5 biturbo. -
Ineos Grenadier 8 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Solid axles front and rear by Italian firm Carraro (who apparently also make axles for tractors), custom ladder frame chassis by German/Spanish company Gestamp (who made the chassis for VW Amarok), proven straight 6 engines from BMW but im informed slightly simplified and with an emphasis on more torque and less HP, ZF 8 speed auto, transfer case by Tremec, seats by Recaro, apparently quite soft spring rates and long travel suspension making for a comfy ride with manageable (autocar described as progressive) body roll, no active dampers, no air suspension, and built in such a way that addresses many of the flaws of the old Defender, including rust which they have really focused on apparently. -
Is there such a car? 25 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I only use it for the work commute that only 15 miles of 30/40mph zones and occasional stop start traffic... but I am in the car for an hour each morning and night so bring comfortable is a big thing.. Before you go and say how about this BMW or this Mercedes Benz.... I can’t afford anything like that as I already have a big car to pay for so don’t want something that’ll drain my money away.... Here’s my specs: I am 6ft4 (with a 34” inside leg) £13k max Petrol (only cover 7-8k miles per year) Newish car (3 years max) Reliable No bigger than 4.25m(space on drive) It will only be serviced at a manufacturers service centre.... -
VW Passat GTE Advance - VW Passat Lead Time? 16 Oct 2020 (Forum)
This is the same for colleagues who have ordered vehicles from other manufacturers such as Honda and BMW. We can't fathom how a 5 week shutdown would cause a 7+ month delay. We've a theory that as they've already had a wedge of the cash from the fleet management company they have that cash in the bank and they are now prioritising new orders made in the showroom. -
What is the best car for me? 13 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Estate ideally, for space, though I do like a commanding drive height. Been looking at Volvo V70/XC70, Ford focus estate, pegeuot 207 estate, mercedes and bmw, audi too. Cann't make a decision. Ideally I don't want another project, so something which is reliable and good on the motorway runs. I know any car could be good or bad and depends heavily on its service history and any future maintenance. -
Any - Turbo or not 25 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Hello, just a hypothetical (at this time) post really.........apart from a Toyota MR2 & a BMW Z4, which were second fun cars, over the past 25 years or so l've driven turbo diesels & still do. l like the way they drive, the torque, the economy etc. However, the next vehicle, as mileage is now down to 5 - 7k per year, will more than likely be petrol. -
volvo - What is the best car for me? 10 Jul 2020 (Forum)
I realise any SUV or taller vehicle won't be the best on the long drives, in comparison to an estate like the xc70, octavia, bmw, subaru, etc, would just be good for a taller driving height. It's not necessarily for a large family, just be good to have decent boot space. Volvo is the option I'm swaying to, pricey to service and maintain I know, but my old man used to work for volvo specialists and they are very reliable diesel engines, the D5 is the one I'm after, if I opt VOLVO. -
Fuel Efficient Estate 8 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Reading through reviews I know there are a lot of options and some of the more favourable reviews seem to lean towards a Skoda Superb, Skoda Octavia, BMW 3 Series Efficient Dynamics, VW Passat GTE or Seat Leon ST. As stated, my main objective is to make it as fuel efficient a journey as possible as I'm currently running a 1L Ecoboost Fiesta which is costing me around £80-£100 a week on fuel depending on what other journeys happen during the week. -
Car accident where other driver is trying to rip m 11 Aug 2019 (Forum)
This is completely out of proportions. If I was in any other car, I wouldn't even have left those scratch marks, but in my BMW 5 Series, the grill is sticking out a bit, so that left a few marks along the whole bumper. I'm willing to pay him up to £300 for a repaint and the inconvenience but definitely not £1100. -
Vectra 3.2 auto estate - want a cheap fast estate 12 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Presently in a Saab convertible and it's the devil's job getting baby seats in the back! Are Audis, Mercs, BMWs overpriced? I've never bought them. I had a Volvo once and I find them a bit cramped, should I give them another go? Who have I missed out... Skoda? Oh yeah then there's Honda, Toyota and that crowd. -

E30 325i and 318i - E30 3 Series x2 for sale - advice please 24 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Any help and advice gratefully received. I have been asked to help a couple near me sell two elderly BMWs. A 1990 325i 2 door, and a 1989 318i four door. I'm aware that the E30 3 Series still has quite a following, and was just after some advice as to whether there is a website or business in the SW that might specialise in old Beemers. -
First Company Car - how do I choose?? 23 May 2014 (Forum)
Basically I will be doing a daily 100 mile round trip commute, plus additional business miles, being 6'4" I will need a comfortable car which I can get satnav, bluetooth, etc I don't want to pay any extra personal contributions, so I can choose anything up to the size of Mondeo, Insignia, Passat etc or looking smaller Audi A3. BMW seems to require personal contribution, as would A4. Do I go for the bigger Mondeo, Insignia size or drop down to the Focus, A3 level? Got a Focus at home at the moment, fine car, but not sure it would provide enough comfort on my 500 miles a week? -
Peugeot 508 2.0 HDI vs Skoda Superb Estate 22 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I need a big comfy fast estate car, not even looked at Mazda 6 ( they have no dealers as far as I can find ) Would like a BMW 5 series but as its a company car they set a max price of 28 Grand. and max co2 of 130. 3 series & A4 are just too small. X1 might be OK - not looked at it yet. Insignia and Mondeo also possibilities, but neither really excite me, same for Passat Estate "SPORT" Don't want Avensis even though I had 2 already, just want a change. -
1999 Rover 75 Diesel 30 May 2013 (Forum)
The car will come with a full service and MOT and a tune up as the car is currently a little low on power (suspected turbo problem) which will be sorted before sale. Am I right in saying its a BMW engine and not a Rover L Series? Also would it be a good buy and how long do these engines last without too many problems? I am expecting to pay around the £1,000 mark if not less as they write the cost of the car off as soon as its purchased. -
Jaguar x type - Corrosion 16 Apr 2013 (Forum)
http://www.kelsey-forums.co.uk/cgi-bin/jwm/YaBB.pl?num=1313252614 Hi all , I've recently been looking for a cheap runabout and decided on either a BMW 3 ,merc c ,or a jaguar x type .Depending on a price up to £3000 and mileage less than 100k. Other than that manual or auto would be fine ,petrol preferred but diesel ok.leather if possible . I finally agreed to buy an x type from e bay ,2003 with a new mot 77000 miles with history ,price £1650.
