• Upgrading from a Honda Jazz (new used car advice) 19 Jul 2020 (Forum)
  Hello All I need some advice For a new used SUV  Im an American single dad Living in France With a single daughter. I currently have a 2012 Honda Jazz a wonderful car but one I think no longer suits my needs. My two criticisms of it are a lack of power (I recently moved to a hilly area which the Honda struggles with) and the need of a bigger boot.

  Hi I've need to change my pug 308 HDI  simply due to general maintenance becoming ever more frequent due to age and mileage I've never had a problem with the car or any of my previous HDI engined Peugeot's so was thinking about getting a 2 year old 308 with the 120 diesel or the now obsolete 2 litre diesel 2016 on avensis although seems to be impossible to get an avensis in decent condition as all ex hire etc I commute all motorway 75 miles a day and every three months roughly take the car to Europe to top up the wine and beers :) Now you've heard this a million times- petrol or diesel especially given fact that France is looking to ban diesel altogether and given that I'm in France half a dozen times a year this is worrying. I don't want the Peugeot puretech as although an excellent engine it's got a wet belt and I'm not convinced by this idea.

  I returned from France yesterday having covered about 2,000 miles in my Accord diesel. There were a couple of problems, and I wonder if anyone else has experienced these. The fuse - 20 amps - which protects the horn and brake lights blew a couple of times.

  Please help me with this one, I am an expat trying to understand what is now the case in the UK having just fallen out big-time with the owner of a car that I thought I had bought to export to France. When the car was put through the MoT test, or DoE test or whatever it's called now, it passed but with a series of 'advisories' including a crack in the windscreen and wear to front suspension bushes.

  So I need a smaller car for the usual 3 and a half miles to the bank or 40 miles to the airport sort of thing. And 3 or 4 times a year half way down England, right across France and on to the Costa Pile. Quite a long way. Fast -usually . France one day Spain the next. And then back again of course. Must be comfortable and relaxing. Must be able to get out of it after 9 hours feeling OK.

  Ours was our honeymoon 10 years ago when we took our much loved but rather ratty Westfield on a tour of France for three summer weeks. Luggage was limited to one soft bag bungeed on the back and we simply hooned around catching accomodation wherever. Some truly epic driving days in the Alps and Med coast with special mention to be given to the Verdun Gorges.

  Easily fixed, or do I put up with it? It cost me more than you might think to buy - used motors in France fetch higher prices than in the UK.

  Just come back from a week's cruise to Spain and France and I was impressed with the way they have separate cycle and pedestrian lanes off the main roads. No making the roads narrower by painting a few lines but every one had their own dedicated lanes.

  A friend of mine in France is looking at buying a 2012 Honda Civic 9 1.8. automatic petrol.  Am I right in thinking the series 9 Civic auto is a torque convertor box and that it was the series 8 that had the dodgy Ishift?

  A warning to anyone thinking of working with these criminals. A friend of mine recently paid for a company to have his brand new motorcycle transported to France and they tried to rob him.  He has created a website to warn others, which I will link here: (deleted) PLEASE if everybody could spread this, you may just save someone from having their car or motorcycle stolen.
• Driving into Europe with no V5 6 Apr 2019 (Forum)
  With the current hoo haa around Brexit I wonder if it advisable to drive into France with a car bought only last week from  an auction ie Mannheims. No V5 yet as it can take 5 weeks for it to arrive from the DVLA. I do have the signed part of the previous V5 that indicates my purchase of this car.

  I travel to France quite often so use stick-on headlamp beam converters. I have not found any that really work - the last one I tried was from Halfords - a lot cheaper than from BMW. The instructions for fitting however were very vague.

  Hi    I live in France, and am compareing two different cars. Which is the better deal?   A 2010-2011 Renault Megane III Auto  with 8000-30000KM (there a several for sale) hence the spread. Cost is about 14500 EUROS or VW GOLF 5 GT with DSG. 36000KM for 13500 EUROS.

  I want to update the info but Subaru want a lot of money for this, at around £400. Does anybody know where I could obtain a 2011/12 dvd covering Europe, or for just France which is what I am really interested in. Many thanks in advance.

  I much enjoy browsing this site and can't help noticing the absence of several familiar figures recently: For example, where is Aprilia with his vast technical knowledge, Altea Ego with his sense of humour, what happened to SJB - last thing I heard he went off on a bike tour of France, also Cheddar, with his passion for Mondeos? Where's everyone gone? Just wondering...
• FIAT - Now offering five year guarantees 29 Feb 2008 (Forum)
  I saw a poster this morning - FIAT give a five year guarantee on new Cromas in Switzerland and I'm pretty sure they give five year guarantee on new Bravos in France. So, are they getting serious about giving quality engineering ?? They must be confident in offering that , no ?? To my knowledge, no other 'European' make offers this...... {amendment of typo in subject header}
• Noisy UK Motorways/A Roads 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
  Just returned from a small road trip to Italy and France and I had noticed that the car did seem to be running rather more quietly than usual. However on my return to the UK the noise was back again. Do other Euro countries use something different to surface their roads because the noise was caused quite simply by the road surfaces on our motorways and A roads?

  Can anyone recommend a hire company that does reasonably priced MPV's (e.g. Galaxy, Espace size for 7 people) that I can take to France. I have been looking on the internet and have fallen off my chair at the expense. One company wants a four figure sum for two weeks. I am tempted to buy one privately and then sell it after the holiday...
• Crossing the Channel cheaply 15 May 2004 (Forum)
  I'd read somewhere recently that it's possible to turn up at Dover and pick up any empty spaces on car ferries cheaply at the last minute. Does anyone have any knowledge or further info on this? I need to go to France for 3or 4 days and normally fly, but I have a load of stuff I need to take so car is the only real option.
• Espace Diesel overheating 11 Jul 2002 (Forum)
  Garages in Spain and the UK failed to find any cause for this and the problem has increased, the final straw being the cutting out of the engine in slow traffic on Piccadilly! Any comments / ideas / tips gratefully received as we are off on a holiday to Southern France in a couple of weeks!
