Why the huge jump in diesel performance 22 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Mods - feel free to move to the Technical forum if you wish, but to me this was more a Discussion item. In simple terms, add some electronic gubbins, whack up the turbo boost, wind up the fuel injection pressure to some giddy value, and hey presto you have a high performance diesel that'll tow the QE2 from 30-70 in no time flat, stay there all day, and use an egg cup of fuel in the process. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Surely this car can use any Diesel sold in UK ? 8 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I have used all brands of fuel (from brand name stations and from supermarkets). Surely a 2006 car from a major manufacturer should be able to run on any diesel fuel sold in the UK? {tweak to Subject Line } -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - How important is the brand of fuel? 4 Jul 2008 (Forum)
My trusty Micra is not the coolest wheels, but the fuel economy is up there with the best diesels. I saw this clip on YouTube today and it got thinking about making my fuel go further (great CGI btw!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiDgDzjFBRM Any thoughts out there about whether fuel quality changes across the brands? -
Ford Fiesta - Push on fuel hoses 22 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Replacing the Bosch fuel filter on my diesel there are two push on fuel hoses. The connectors have two tabs either side which you have to pinch in to release the hose. Can someone explain how these connectors grip the pipe, I just don't understand how they work, what is preventing them sliding off? -
Shell Diesel Extra vs BP Ultimate Diesel 26 Nov 2006 (Forum)
What are the main differences in these new diesel fuels? Which one would anyone recommend? I am about to take delivery of a new Citroen C4 Coupe 2.0HDi VTS, and want to maintain the engine as best as possible, any advice? Thanks Delafinion. -
Diesel Payback Miles 5 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Diesel cars are more economical then petrol but the cars themselves cost more as well as the fuel. Over what mileage therefore does a new diesel vehicle become a cost effective buy? As a further thought , why are diesel more expensive when the engines are, allegedly, less complicated? -
Running out of diesel 15 Sep 2002 (Forum)
A question from someone new to diesel..... If a petrol car runs out of fuel I just stick some more in and go. I've heard that a diesel has to be put through a certain procedure; 're-priming' or something like that. Any advice please! -
Cost per litre? - Fuel Duty 15 Sep 2018 (Forum)
From the HJ article. "Aside from the fact that petrol and diesel in the UK are subject to some of the highest levels of taxation anywhere in Europe" Misleading or what? It isn't JUST the taxation that matters, it is also the fuel staion margins. See the price of a litre of unleaded in the rest of europe! -
Fuel (Lack of) economy - Winter's here! 2 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Fuel light came on well before the normal figure of 400 miles...according to FuelLog, the Berlingo did 33.6 mpg to the last tank! The last fill up on the 18th worked out at 38.4mpg, looks like the winter diesel switchover has occured. -
Tanker drivers - Fuel Strikes 29 Mar 2012 (Forum)
This morning went to fuel up on the way to taking swmbo to work and all the pumps covered except for the v-power diesel, luckily the attendant recognised swmbo is a doctor and allowed us to fill up as there is no public transport here in west wales before 8 in the morning and after 6pm, -
Common-rail diesels 9 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Can we have a brief explanation of why the current generation of c-r diesels no longer need the 5-second warm-up of the previous generation? Is it just the high-pressure fuel, or is there more to it than that? (MM?) -
Volvo V50 Diesel - Wise buy? Volvo V50 1.6 Diesel (better than 2.0l?) 16 Aug 2012 (Forum)
A few horror stories around the internet, which seem to centre on the 2.0litre diesel(poor fuel economy, engine probs) I wonder if the 1.6 diesel unit is a better, more reliable unit. It should also have better fuel economy. Monthly running costs are very important to me, I can't afford a car which is going to let me down. -
Diesel or petrol 29 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Do diesels require services more often? Does the cost of maintenance outweigh any benefit in fuel consumption? Just trying to get some answers to common questions I guess. Thx in advance. S. -

Bio Fuel - Jeep Cherokee 2.8 diesel 6 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Hi Is anyone here a wiz on bio fuel? I have a customer with a Jeep Cherokee 2.8 diesel. Jeep says it?s only allowed to run on 5% bio fuel so really that means it can?t use it. Anyway this customer has been using it anyway and had no running problems with it until it started making a noise then broke down. -
Ford C-MAX TDCi - Cleaning up after diesel leak in engine 23 May 2011 (Forum)
I'm very suspicious that the nut in question would suddenly be loose after a service, especially when they had trouble fitting the fuel filter. I've never had trouble with the fuel system before. Needless to say there's diesel all over the engine. What's the best way to get the engine cleaned? Is a steam clean recommended these days? -
Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - 05 2.0 TDI PD140 diesel leak from new car 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Just took delivery of new Passat 2.0 TDI PD 140 yesterday. After 2 miles of driving, filled up with diesel. Got home and detected strong smell of diesel. Later noted diesel dripping from under car. Called dealer who expressed surprise!!. Took it in today and after 1 hour of checking was told that tandem fuel pump was leaking and needed replacing. -
diesel tank leak 26 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I found my diesel leaking from the fuel tank. I looked and found that someone had drilled a 10mm hole into the bottom of the metal tank and pinched all of my diesel, (scum!!!). Do I replace or fill with grommet/epoxy. -
Peugeot 306 2.0 HDI Estate Meridian - A Fuel related problem? 9 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge.. and the way i explain the problem! I have a (pug 306 hdi 2.0 Meridian estate Y reg) With a faulty fuel gauge reading( Always reads higher than half a tank even when there is less) I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP(Curtsey of a garage). Lately the car will not start at times, For me to get it to start when it doesn't start it will take 3 diesel containers(£24 to start).. which is weird on one occasion I believed there to be half a tank in there, so I traveled 80 miles and then thought i would put another £20 worth of diesel in it alas Diesel peed out over the edge I had a full tank!! -
Lipstick on your collar, asphaltines in your tank. 2 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Introducing a whole new level of interest for advocates of diesel fuel additives... snigger..;);) http://tinyurl.com/6dnb94 A serious point though. (well..;) It was often said (can`t remember where) that its best to keep your car fuel tank as full as possible of derv in Winter to avoid water condensing out of the air and contaminating the fuel.
