  • Ford Mondeo Mk 3 2.2 TDCI - Help! Cant drain coolant system 2 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I've got a problem, and while I'm fairly sure I'm not being a biff, I just want to check.  I'vbe gor a 56 plate 2.2 TDCI Mondeo, and the coolant level is very low (below minimum).  I'm trying to drain the coolant system to replace the coolant.  MKy haynes manual says there is a coolant drain plug at the bottom of the radiator, but having spent a significant amount of time under the car, I can't seem to find it...
  • Rover 25 , 53000 on clock - Rover 25 coolant loss 17 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Any thoughts on this. One thing I did notice is the coolant always stays at the minimum mark. This is a bit odd how the coolant I pour in gets lost. The coolant I poured in is a pink colour compared to the blue coloured coolant already there.
  • VW Golf Mk5 - Coolant level issues 4 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Plus the coolant is really foaming inside the tank. The coolant system has been bled several times to try and remove any air, the heaters are working fine and there's no film of oil/smell of fumes in the expansion tank and no signs of coolant in the oil.
  • Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 CDX 1995 - Coolant Level Sensor -how does it work 2 May 2012 (Forum)
Does anyone know how the Coolant Level Sensor works ?? It is integral with the coolant expansion tank cap. ( I will post a picture later of the cap & sensor) Recently my dasboard Coolant Low Level Warning Lamp has been coming on & I am losing some coolant.
  • Fluctuating Coolant Level 3 Nov 2001 (Forum)
My 1990 Citroen BX TGD, ie the 1905cc normally aspirated diesel, recently required the hose leading to the heater matrix replacing as it was leaking coolant through it. The repair has been effected and the coolant level has stabilised for several days and hundreds of miles in the coolant expansion bottle at the recommended level. Last night the low level coolant warning light came on after the car had been standing for 2 hours after use in congested town traffic.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Query after having coolant replaced 11 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Also for some time I have noticed on the inside surface of the top of the coolant reservoir (above the level of the coolant), bubbles or condensation on the plastic surface. After having the coolant changed today it appears that they are still there. Do you have any ideas about this ?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 petrol- coolant question ? 10 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My question is if I were to renew the coolant now and somewhere down the line the coolant pump packed up, would I have to renew the coolant again with the new water pump or would this be unnecessary again ? Thanks
  • VW Polo Coolant has gone brown? 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Hello, In order to diagnose an issue with the temperature gauge on my 1.4 VW Polo 1996 N-Reg not working I had cause to replace the thermostat. This meant having to drain the coolant. I don't know what was in it (I bought this car recently ) but it was pink in the coolant tank but blue when it came out of the radiator hose - sounds weird. Ha. Anyway, I used Halfords Ready Mixed Coolant to fill the cooling system back up but I'm now worried because the coolant looks brown inside the tank and I vaguely recall brown colours being bad news as far as VW coolant goes.
  • Ford Galaxy - Coolant warning light 9 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I was driving my car close to home when a Stop, Check Coolant warning light appeared. I arrived home ok. When the engine cooled down i checked the coolant level on the expansion tank and the coolant level was just below Min. I filled the coolant to just below the Max.I took the car for a drive until the engine reached its normal driving temperature and when the car reached 10 miles the Stop, Check Coolant warning light appeared.
  • 2003 NISSAN MICRA III K12 - Sensor to measure coolant temperature 25 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I would like to install a small digital temperature sensor in the car engine compartment to get an approximate value of the coolant temperature. Other than actually placing the sensor in the coolant itself, what external part of the engine would give the nearest reading to the coolant temperature?
  • Golf Mk4 Coolant Warning 8 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Golf Mk4 Cooant warning message appeared this morning but coolant level perfectly OK. The sensor appears to be two stainless rods immersed it the coolant header tank. Does this just measure that there is or is not coolant or is it really smart and measures the resistance across the pins to establish the presence of the correct proportion of anti freeze.
  • C5 coolant change 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Can anyone tell me when/if the coolant should be changed in a C5? The maintenance schedule is not easy to understand and I have yet to find any mention of actually changing the coolant in this car. I checked the coolant level recently and, whilst the level is OK, the colour is a dirty brown, which doesn't look right to me.
  • VW Golf Mk5 - Gunk in the expansion tank 27 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I also couldn't see any signs of dried coolant on the plastic engine tray, either, so ruling out rad leaks etc?  I've also tried bleeding the coolant systems by running the engine at high revs with the heaters on full and coolant tank cap removed.
  • Skoda Coolant 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi Gang, need to get some coolant to top up the wife's Felicia Bohemia. The handbook only says use coolants complying with: TL-VW 774 B which I presume is VW's own identifyer. If I don't want to bother finding a VW/Skoda dealer, which type do I need and is it a good idea to top up with a compatible coolant from Halfords say ?
  • corsa 1.3 diesel ecoflex - coolant level problem 15 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Level then ok for several months, stayed at full level. 4. 3 months or so later, large loss of coolant, going into engine oil (oil too high on dipstick, sludge in oil filler cap). Garage replaced oil cooler and coolant, coolant still being psuhed down a bit in tank. 5. 2nd service, coolant level ok but now level being pushed down again and slight coolant loss.
  • Suzuki Swift Sport - Coolant Loss 11 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I collected my brand new Suzuki Swift Sport on 26th Sept 2015, following a journey of 105 miles I noticed the coolant level in the expansion tank had dropped by 30mm to just above the minimum level line. I took the car to the dealership to have the coolant topped up on 1st October. I can see no signs of leaks in the engine bay, the temp gauge is always on normal, there is no sign of coolant on my garage floor.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Does anyone know about volume of coolant 6 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I would be interested to know (roughly) what volume of coolant (water/antifreeze mixture) is required to raise the coolant level in the coolant reservoir from the min line to the max line (in litres or millilitres). My car is a Ford Focus 1.8 petrol with the orange type coolant.
  • VW Coolant Problems 28 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Strong smell of coolant coming through the air system on both low and high temperatures Any ideas ?
  • coolant lifespan 16 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Once coolant has passed it's two year life, how does it start to deteriate. Is it the cooling properties, the antifreezingproperties,or the corrosion inhibiter.I ask this question because the coolant in my car stiil has the ideal concentrate, but is about three years old. Many thanks
  • Mercedes E Class 2012 2.1D - Coolant loss 28 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Car loses coolant when temperature set to High, if temperature os set to say 22 then it doesn't lose coolant, have to fill expansion tank every day otherwise.
