  Lexus IS F (2008 - 2012) (Reviews)
  Lexus is probably better known for comfortable, big four-door saloons and hybrids rather than performance cars but that was before the Lexus IS F came along. It may be based on the rather ordinary IS saloon, but it's a world away from an executive four-door with a thundering 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces more than 400bhp and delivers a 0-62mph time of less than 5.0 seconds.

  Some of us wondered if this would translate to "fear steer". Yet out on the road it offers a better impression of driver "feel" than any previous Lexus LS. It isn't perfect because it isn't linear. Electronics have taken over from castor and mechanical precision. But the car is aimed at drivers who might not happen to be as interested driving as the rest of us (mainly Americans), and the electric steering combined with the other chassis electronics might just save their lives together with anyone else's that they might otherwise crash into.

On the motorway, it’s slightly better, but it lacks in-gear performance and if you’re heavy with your right foot, fuel consumption quickly drops. The Lexus CT 200h is certainly different from other premium hatchbacks thanks to its advanced technology.

  Eight out of every 10 tested for an MoT in 2017 passed, with the Cayman performing the best.  Dacia was second, just ahead of Lexus. The former was introduced into the UK 2013 and its youthful range of cars, they would only be going through their first or second MoT, explains the high pass rate. Things are not quite so positive for Dacia's parent company Renault, which is once again propping up the table, not helped by low pass rates for ageing models from the 1990s and 2000s such as the Laguna and Espace.
