Buying a new car 22 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I tried to book a test drive with the local dealer and spoke to one of the sales people who said he would get back to me to arrange a time and date. They never did. After this I tried to book tests with Mini, Suzuki, Audi, VW, Hyundai, Citroen, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Mazda, Seat, Toyota and Honda. Most of these test drives were booked online so relied on the dealers getting in touch with me and while most of them did there were a few exceptions. -
Spartan Warriors. 7 May 2020 (Forum)
Rover Metro 1.1C - As above but much better suspension, engine and gearbox. Still just as spartan inside though. Citroen AX 1.0 pre facelift - Egg crate interior but fun to drive and cost buttons to run. Surprisingly robust and comfortable too. VW Polo (the bread van) - Tiny, spartan 3dr estate. Highly practical and simplicity itself. -
2500 miles per month. £2500. Diesel? Petrol? LPG? 1 Jan 2017 (Forum)
6) Hyundai i30/Kia Cee'd with the 1.6 crdi (if I can find one) 7) 2005 Honda Civic Executive 1.6 VTEC Petrol (To LPG) 8) Auris 1.33 vvt-i For what I read I should stay clear of pretty much every make that uses a PSA derived engine so No Mazda, Ford, Peugeout, Citroen and some Volvos. I should also stay clear of Renault and also stay clear of any make using Fiat derived engines so no Saabs, 1.9cdti Vauxhalss, Fiats, or Alfas. Finally I would like to have an opinion on the current state of affairs about LPG. -
150 k Miles in a Berlingo 31 May 2021 (Forum)
Servicing and Reliability – Service interval is 10k and has been strictly adhered to with some services early in anticipation of long trips. The recent 150k item was the seventeenth in service record. Initially done in Citroen dealer network then by local French Car indy but last was DIY. On it’s third set of brake discs, fifth pads and probably fourth exhaust – they tend to suffer metal fatigue at pipe/rear box join before the box/baffles give up. -
My Road Test - Volvo XC70 D5 Summum Auto 19 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The word 'premium' here is really, really justified. The FOUR-C electronic suspension reminds me of Citroen's hydro. In 'comfort' mode it wallows nicely just a little bit, being rather firm at the corners at the same time. On good quality roads it feels like almost flying, plus it maintains the same ground clearance level all the time. -
My Recent Driving Trip to France 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
French cars and driving I was expecting to see a lot of French cars that maybe don?t sell as well over here eg. Peugeot 1007, Citroen C6 etc but I did not see a single C6 which surprised me. I did see one of the new Renault SUVs which looked quite appealing. The French motorway driving seems to have changed slightly as well. On previous trips, when any car was in the outside lane, it would have its indicator on. -

As he draws alongside he stops and drops his window. I assume he’s about to moan that I didn’t leave much room for him to get past and get ready to tell him to s*** off. -
Dilemma of dilemmas of dilemmas 2 Feb 2012 (Forum)
The thing is, looking through HJ's Car-By-Car Reviews, it genuinely seems almost impossible to find any diesel car that doesn't have the potential (maybe even likelihood) to go wrong in one or more expensive ways! PSA 1.6 HDI used in Ford, Mini?, Citroen, Peugeot: Fuel pump issues . DPF/fluid issues Fiat 1.3 and 1.9 also used in Vauxhalls- waterpump seizes, shreds timing belt, bends valves VAG used in Audi, VW, Skoda, Seat and others: piezo injectors, ECU software even in old 110hp 1.9; coolant loss due to porous cylinder heads, oil pump drive fail, Teves ABS issue. -
My 1st month, 3300 miles, with an S-Max 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
t been inside an S-Max. It is huge. It is both longer and wider than the old Galaxy/Sharan (as well as the Citroen C8/Pug 807 and Renault Espace). This car is a full size MPV that has just been ?styled?. The roof slopes down at the back and that means that the rear 2 seats don?t? have the same room as the full sized MPV? -

LJK Obits and more 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
He peppered his writing with classical allusions, or quotations in Latin or Greek. He once wrote in blank verse about a Citroen. And when, quite recently, the editor of one of Britain's best-known magazines suggested he "tone down" these flights of fancy to suit a more modern audience, his response was to submit a column entirely in Latin (before offering a translation a day later).
