• Honda CRV mark I - Refurbish or Replace ? 4 Jan 2011 (Forum)
  I have a 1998 Honda CRV on an 'S' Plate. I have owned the car for 2 years and it has served me well. Let me down twice - once due to the battery (original !) failing - the second time due to battery again (another rubbish halfords part). The car has a dented rear door (bad - but cosmetic) where I backed it into the wall at home (don't ask!).

  but since the weather has become colder, if left for a couple of hours or more, it wont start first time. so i will turn on the ignition and get the usual warning lights of handbrake, battery and oil can. then i turn it over and either starts and immediately cuts out back to the first lights. or it doesnt start at all and when i take the pressure off the ignition it goes straight back to the initial warning lights. its also doing the juddering thing on almost every start up too.

  Seems that the rear end has fallen out of the used EV market, particularly the Leaf so there are many stupidly cheap cars about. I can get a sensible mileage 4yr old big battery 62kwh example from Cinch for around £11k or a private sale 40kwh car for much less. It is tempting despite the £3k loss I’d take on the Merc. • Ford Fiesta - 2005 fiesta overheating - temp gauge normal 26 Oct 2024 (Forum)
  I have noticed that the fan is definitely not working. I'm planning on changing the fuse under the bonnet next to the battery tomorrow as I've changed the fuse behind the glove box (it seems like there are 2 fuses related to the fan looking online). The thing is the tempature gauge shows normal when the coolant tank is bubbling up and steam coming from it.

  She came back after a 2 week work trip ending up being 6 months , came back a few days ago and yesterday went to use the car. Needed charged the battery overnight ,  thought all was good when it started until she tried to pull away in the drive ... lots of juddering , banging noise coming from the front end .. I had a look while she was driving and the front wheels looked like they were vibrating then a loud clunky / clicking sound every second ...it happens going either back or forth and even when stationary when turning the wheel .
• fiat punto mk2 1.2 2003 - starter motor wiring 17 Feb 2024 (Forum)
  i have just done the clutch and replace the starter motor on my car and I cannot figure out the wiring for the starter motor.. the 2 red wires 1&2 are from the positive battery and the alternator... I am sure they go on the main top post on the starter. the white cable 4 and the short cable 3... I am, stumped. there is a earthing point on the engine block just under the starter that the white cable will reach, but that is not correct.

    It is most annoying and I either have to keep the clutch engaged, therefore wearing the thrust bearing over the long term or sit there with radio, lights and blowers on using just the battery.  Not to mention that I find it cannot be doing the engine any good continuously being stopped and started.  Call me old fashioned but I just do not like it. EDIT:   I have just found the disable switch down on the right hand side along side the headlight raise and lower wheel and the tyre pressure reset switch.

    But that aside and the fact EV’s are only zero emission at the tail pipe, whilst their pollution is transferred on a calm day to a coal fired power station, the real problem is the weight of these cars.   The battery packs make EV’s much heavier, and the law of physics would state that in an accident, if one of these cars hit you, the damage would be more severe. Not enough research has been undertaken into the impact damage caused by heavy EV’s on other road vehicles.
• Ford Focus Mk1 DAB - Immobilizer - Intermittent Starting 16 Jan 2022 (Forum)
  My 2003 Mk1 For Focus, which has a new battery, starter motor and solenoid, has intermittent starting problems. The flashing immobiliser, red light, on the dashboard, indicates that the immobiliser intermittently fails to recognise both of the ignition keys.

  I recently had to call a breakdown company, who jump started my car, due to the battery going flat. I now can't get the radio to operate, nor will it display any information, on the screen above the radio. When I press the button, to activate the radio, I get the " Ford Audio " message, but it won't go any further.

  From the KIA  Forum   https://www.kiaownersclub.co.uk/threads/bang.57156/#post-369645   Driving along merrily at 60 mph, go downhill on the overrun and this loud grinding sound starts, put brakes on and it stops, go to the other side and start climbing grinding starts again loud bang from the boot area ( where the 48-volt batteries are ) then the engine locks up. Called RAC who recovered me to Chaulk at Yeovil, taxi home and Europcar tomorrow. The thoughts ar the electric motor on the front of the engine has seized snapping the timing chain, they say they will look properly on Tuesday and it will need a new engine, I have said if that's the case I want another car as it's only done 7000 miles.

  i am currently working on seeing if a piece of equipment that is currently powered by a gas motor can be run off an electric motor being powered by a honda Eu2000i generator using an ac to dc convertor that goes to 2 12V batteries connected in series (motor runs of 24V) that pick up load spikes. The equipment weighs around 400 lbs and can move an additional 1000 lbs. The required specs to move this piece of equipment are 275 ft-lbs of torque and it needs to move at walking pace or about 3 mph.

  Multimeter on 20A setting in series across earth and battery negative  . Ignition off (all lights etc off, drivers door open)  0,00 Ignition on  Fluctuating 5.5-4.6. I'm assuming these are AMPS. Pressing the door switch in didn't seem to make a difference, but the interior light has been broken for ages so I wouldn't necessarily expect it to No change for fuse removals except  fuse 5 :Fluctuates 4.3-4.5 (i.e maybe a bit lower) fuse 6: fluctuates 4.1-4.3 (i.e probably a bit lower) Fuse 7: 4.02 steady My best guess as to what this means is that I've got multiple shorts in the wiring loom so there's no clear effect of the removal of any one fuse.

  She has also reported that the locking mechanism sounds sluggish, almost as if it's dying (on the occasions it does work), although there appear to be no issues with the main battery. To add to this, just the other day I took the car for a drive and the locks were going nuts, engaging and disengaging as I drove! - So far I have changed the key on the key fob, but that had no effect.

  After driving the car for a while the engine just stalls while idling. When i try to restart the engine it wont even turn . The battery is ok , all lights show up on the dash board , all seems is fine but the engine wont start or even try to turn. Now comes the baffling part : after exactly 1 hour it will start like nothing has happen.

  I’ve disconnected the sub to see if it makes a difference aswell and sometimes if I turn the car on but not the ignition it will just about crank over. Battery is fine by the way. Thanks
• 2011 ford mondeo - A strange problem 13 Apr 2019 (Forum)
  This went on for a couple of days then my car died. Manage to get some one to bump start it took to Halfords to have battery tested they said it was fine. Cars been driving fine since had no issues at all then a couple of days ago the same issue arose .., boot would unlock upon starting vehicle (just to point out I wasn’t accidentally pressing boot button ) and this morning my car is dead again.

  Hi folks, Hope I'm posting this in the right place, if not apologies! Just replaced the battery in a Ford Fiesta 06 plate and of course the radio has now been rebooted. I don't have a code or a manual to refer to which has left me a bit stumped. Tried holding in '6' and '1' to get the serial number and it has given me the following info:   06 00 06 CD-KW-8 05 01 02 SWP1 1-6561 SWP2 14C044 SWP3 AB SWP 4 (nothing) As far as I can see none of these represent a serial number.

  hi,my, citreon c3 1.4 8v 2007 started flashing up silly errors on the dash ,it then after a few weeks went into limp mode and flashed low oil ,i took it to a garage he said wiring loom and ecu is faulty.i sent the ecu away and was told thats there nothing wrong with it.so i got a auto elect guy to repair the loom in the engine bay. the car started and rev up but the oil light was flashing. i went to it yesterday and it wont crank over ,the auto guy said it the ecu.would stop the engine turn over if the ecu was faulty.the battery and starter are ok.any advise please.many thanks ray.
