Courteous driving 28 Jul 2004 (Forum)
It's Sunday evening and I'm driving back to London from Lincolnshire where I've been visiting the folks for the weekend. I'm on the A1M happily cruising and I've been following a gent in an Audi 100 for some time. I decide that rather than hanging on his tail I'm going to overtake him so I pull out. -
MX5 or MR2? 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I imagine that when the weather is fine my good wife will drive it her 20 miles cross-country b-road route to work, whereas in snow, fog and torrential downpours I will drive it my 35-mile mostly motorway journey. Should we decide to buy, we will keep our Mondeo as the main long journey vehicle. -
Fiesta Fuel Gauge Fun! 19 Sep 2003 (Forum)
As I drove away, I noticed that the last bar on the fuel gauge that indicates a full tank was not lit up, after about 5 miles of driving (one journey) I looked again and now the gauge showed a full tank. It normally shows the full tank readout read out instantly. After more driving, I've notivced that again, the gauge is dropping quicker than it should be. -
Vectra vibration 20 Mar 2003 (Forum)
We both examined underneath and noticed a steel clamp on one drive shaft which we thought may be a balance weight. He rang the Vauxhall agent for advice and they said the block was a damper and not balance. They also suggested taking the gearbox bottom tray off and checking for any bits of metal which might suggest the vibration emanated from their and then go for the drive shafts. -

Smooth driving style 9 Nov 2001 (Forum)
In traffic etc... you should be able to drive without using the brakes if you plan ahead adequately. This is the advocated approach from all advanced driving schools of thought. Rather this than the stop-start-stop-start that plagues most traffic situations. yes/no? -

used buying advice? 5 series, Lexus NX or others? 25 Jun 2025 (Forum)
Appreciate any opinion if those 2 are a good choice, or perhaps any I have missed that have the reliable yet ‘name recognition’ aspect. Just want to drive a decent car for a few years while minimising headache risk. 1 slight concern is the rear wheel drive for Glasgow winters but perhaps I’m overreacting and most of the time won’t be on untreated roads or hills. -
Volvo V50 1.8 Petrol - Small Japanese Car to replace Volvo V50 28 May 2025 (Forum)
The vast majority of driving is non-motorway and I personally only do about 8,000 miles per year. Perhaps, with my wife driving, this might jump up to 10,000 but certainly no more. Out of interest, I asked ChatGPT what it thought (purely from a financial point of view). -
Ford Transit - Get MOT done 1 hour's drive away at usual place or 7 May 2025 (Forum)
The one an hour away is what my mum uses and used them before no problems. I am wondering if it is better to drive the hour or so back just for the MOT test. Are there advantages to that or should I pick any nearest to current location? I know the official line is that all MOT centres will test perfectly equally but the word on the street seems to differ. -
Time to choose another car 19 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I average around 56mpg on the motorway, and do very little town driving. The other car in the family is a Renault Captur, which I enjoy driving but it's not been reliable unfortunately, as it doesn't like periods of not being driven, e.g. 3 weeks between being used.
