Mondeo's at auction (again) 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Am I right in thinking if there are less cars to choose from the price is going to be higher? I'd have thought if 2 people want Ghia X's and 5 people want LX's, and there is 1 Ghia X and 10 LX's, the LX's are going to go, comparativly, cheaper becuase there are more to go round.. -
Defending BL/Rover 2 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Under BL they created the Montego which may make some laugh that I’d suggest it was a good car but it was. I sold plenty of these in the 90’s and not a problem was had and if you look up period road tests from the 80’s you’ll find the Montego in the top tier of all of them. It was a good car spoiled by early quality issue but once sorted in 88 it became a comfortable, quick and efficient family car. -
BMW 1 Series - Where do I legally stand - Car Repairs 30 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I came into the garage and sat down waiting there for a few hours with no word on my car, I noticed everything was put together inside the bonnet and the owner of the garage mentioned to me, the car was starting 30 mins before you came but now its not starting so we'll check if its a problem with the battery. -
Oil changing - myths and urban legends 8 May 2005 (Forum)
Remove Oil Filler Cap, 'gently' - take at least 5 minutes or the threads will strip and the exhaust will fall off in a weeks time. 2. Carefully jack up the front of car, make sure that only the 'special' car jacking points are used or the steering wheel will be upside down next time you see it (the special jack points are only known to a select few, not the main dealers!) -
Peugeot 205 record? 1 Nov 2000 (Forum)
We still have a 306 diesel turbo which is a wonderful car and I'm about to take delivery of a Rover 216 coupe. However nothing could ever replicate the incredible service of 205 G667 SST. May she long enjoy her well-earned semi-retirement. -

Recommend Me a Car 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, I know that for this kind of information, the Back Room is the place to come. I know there are a million threads on 'what car for this money', 'what shall I get' etc. So apologies if I am covering old, old ground but I would like to get my own 'personalised' recommendation. I'm a bit of a car nut job (although I've never owned a 'decent car' lol) so I've already got some ideas, but I want to throw this one into the Back Room for consideration... -
Mercedes Benz CLK W208 (1997 - 2002) - Advice on dealin with bad service from dealer 9 Jun 2008 (Forum)
So I called the dealer, and was told by The Manager that this was wear and tear and not covered by the warranty and I would have to book it in to be looked at. I called back the next day and insisted it get sorted, the car is now back with the dealer. Apart from the steering I am really happy with the car, though I have though reported some other (minor) issues to be looked at. 1. -

Ford Fiesta - Direct Line Uninsured Driver Promise 23 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I have comprehensive cover with Direct Line and wish to invoke their uninsured driver promise. The circumstances are as follows: I was involved in an accident which was not my fault. I provided Direct Line with the other party's details as provided to me, their vehicle registration number and the make and model of their vehicle. -
Ford Excursion - Any advice re: buying an American SUV 2 Dec 2010 (Forum)
If anybody owns an American Car/SUV/Truck I would be grateful for any advice re: potential pitfalls. Obviously there will be a smaller 'market' for the vehicle when I come to sell it and for this reason we will probably keep the vehicle for as long as we can. -
Legacy 2.5 Tourer - 40,000 mile report 22 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The 4WD was a big plus on some snowy/slippery transits through back roads last winter. Summary - not the cheapest car in the world to run, but I didn't buy it expecting that. I like the fact that you don't see that many others around (at least in the South/SE). Would I buy another? Yes but a second-hand Spec B :o) -

Have things gotten this bad in the UK courts yet? 12 Mar 2002 (Forum)
This occurred while Ms Walton was trying to sneak through the window in the ladies room to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge. She was awarded $12,000 and dental expenses. And you wondered how O.J. got off? -
Citroen Xantia 1.9 TD (Bosch pump) - Simple glow plug change gone wrong! Wont idle now! 11 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I still couldn't get to the plug so re-fitted the cover and called it a night. The next day I bought a cheap magnetic pick-up tool, small mirror and parts tray but had to go out. My younger brother managed to use these new tools and bits of wire coat hanger to retrieve the lost plug. -
Mitsubishi Outlander - Could it be a failed DMF on a SST (Dual Clutch)?? 20 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Regardless of temperature, When accelerating hard, the car accelerates in "steps", instead of the rev counter moving in a smooth way, it rises in 200rpm jumps. Again this can be felt in the car, almost like you were tapping and releasing the accelerator. When you stop the car there is a brief "mechanical" / metal rattle - which may be irrelevant. -
Mega Nostalgia 12 Oct 2001 (Forum)
The car was displayed on the Thompson and Taylor stand at the 1938 Motor Show, apparently not for sale. Nevertheless, Hugh Hunter managed to buy it, part-exchanging his English Alta single seater. He won a lot of races in it, leading John Dugdale of 'The Autocar' to write an article about it in which he dubbed the Alfa "the world's fastest road car." -
Toyota Prius plug in 2017 - Very quick review 7 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I had to use the car club car today and the Leaf I had been using for the last couple of years has gone on its merry way. I thought it would be a new model Leaf to replace it, but when I booked the car it came up as a Prius plug in. -
Are motorists their own worst enemy? 31 Aug 2004 (Forum)
We are waist-deep in an anti-car age and struggling to find a branch to haul ourselves out by. But how did we get here? How is it that a nation so clearly in love with its cars ? almost regardless of cost ? can also hate them so much? -
Advice Sought On Paying The Bill 20 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Having ignored a coolant warning on my Golf 6 years ago I stopped straight away, followed the instructions in the owner's manual, and ended up calling the RAC to recover me back to Manchester. The patrolman didn't even bother to start the engine and winched the car onto his foldout trailer. The car was then given a follow on tow a few days later to my local VW garage. They diagnosed two small leaks from pipes, and something called the 'rocker' (?), which they fixed.
