  Currently looking after my daughters Yaris whilst she's out of the country (until April).  Her insurance runs out at the end of January when we will also be out of the country for a month.  Can I legally put the car in our private garage, taxed but uninsured until we get back?

  thanks for your advice it was a real help  i tried the oil filler test but it blew the paper away  but you also mention afm witch i removed and inspected and found a split in main concertina pipe witch i taped up tight with some insulation tape and now she runs sweet as a nut   thanks again and kind regards Neil in Hull

  There is a black 'box' mounted to the bulkhead just to the right of the engine that one of the fuel lines runs into but i cant see any way of undoing it. It seems to be the right size though. Can anyone help?

  My handbook states that the gearbox is "filled for life", but after reading several of HJ's comments re. gearbox failures, I would like to know if it is possible to change the gearbox oil, to get rid of any running in swarf etc.  Would it be a dealer only sort of job, or could a reasonably competent DIY-er do it?

  I've got a 2002 Laguna 1.9 diesel and after a long journey recently the engine was idling roughly on morning start up, it also kicked out some white smoke. I've had it in two garages and that's their best bet, the car seems to be running fine now though?

  I've just read the Ultraviolet report on the Astra Club 1.6i 16v which claims an overall fuel consumption of 55mpg. Shurely shome mishtake, mishta??? Even Mrs W's 1.6 Focus, when driven like a nun on a motorway run, will only get 44mpg.

  1994 third generation shape, excellent condition, 109000 miles, runs like a dream!...and could you see yourself driving a car like that? only i know of such a car and i,m unsure of whether making an offer or not.

  Seem to be having overheating probs with my 106 diesel, getting a dribble of very hot water from the overflow beside the pressure cap after a long run. Have changed the cap to no avail and now wonder if perhaps the fan is coming on or indeed if the thermostat is working. Any ideas anyone?

  Saw some interesting news for those of us who have had issues with Colt Car Company, the official UK importers. Mitsubishi have taken full control of them. It was run by a father & son, the father has retired and the son is no longer involved in the business. Let's hope that means a more professional approach and response in the future.

For male drivers, I feel driving without wearing a necktie is particularly reprehensible. What other crimes, at present unpunishable, do posters feel should be include in proposed legislation?

  Just been reading some of the posts on here about letting the Turbo in a diesel engine cool down before turning the engine off. I have a turbo petrol engine, so I guess it is the same for me to. but how long should one run the engine before they turn it off?. Made make/vehicle non-specific and subject line expanded.

  My H7 dip beam bulbs have only lasted 18 months/35,000 km's. For some reason they both failed within 24 hours of each other. We run DLR's here, so was considering long life bulbs for a mere 50p extra each. So do they actually last longer, or am I just wasting a quid?

  They are greyed out in 'Edit'. I can, of course use Ctrl + X; Ctrl + C or Ctrl + V, but how do I get them on my toolbar? Running Windows XP. Any advice would be appreciated.

  my saxo vtr 2001 model as a miss fire at around 2 to 3000 revs ,ive changed the plugs and it seems to run ok for around a week ,then the miss fire appears agan ,anyone have a idea what it is ,thanks tommy

  When the car is started up, on tick over the oil pressure gauge fluctuates between 1.5 to 2 bar on the gauge. Should it read 3, should it fluctuate on tickover? It stays on 3 when running and doesent loose any oil. Thanks

  I have just changed gearbox oil in my yaris 1.0 (yr 2006). It's running fine except that in the morning, while idling, gearbox oil drips out of a tube, apparently an air valve/tube. As far as i know the oil is not in exess.

  Having trouble with my 1997 1.3 Endura Fiesta stalling everytime I come to a stop. Engine runs ok when going and drives well apart from the stalling. Think its the idling speed but don't know how to adjust. Can anyone help?

  For the first time in 35+ years of motoring, I saw a group of young teenagers running across a motorway yesterday. I was driving west on the M65 near Blackburn as darkness fell, when 4 youths in dark clothing ran down the embankment, nipped across 3 lanes, then waited between the barriers before (presumably) continuing their journey.
