OAP ZX TD Problem 5 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I've had a Citroen ZX TD Volcane for the last 85k miles having bought the car at 100K. It uses no oil at 185K (running synthetic diesel engine oil which incidentally is approx. 20% cheaper at French hypermarkets along with all PSA filters). -
All - EV Buying Advice 3 Jul 2025 (Forum)
But so far I cannot decide on what I want to narrow it down to. I've been looking at and considering MG's (4 & 5), Citroen EC4, VW ID3 amongst others. We've really been spoilt by our Niro as it's the best blend of everything, however, I don't think getting another Niro is the right idea. The main requirements out of the above are boot space, the Cee'd has a boot of 380 litres and I'd like a boot a similar size or bigger, which rules out some smaller EV's and range it needs to have a real world range of over 200 miles for occasional long trips. -
Vauxhall Grandland X - What are the facts about 'wet cam belts', Vauxhall and others? 21 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I am aware of the horror stories regarding the 'wet cam belt' design in these engines, which is also used in various Peugeot and Citroen models, for example. It seems pretty clear that there IS an 'issue', with early 'wet' cam belts - say 2017-2019 models? - being susceptible to deterioration and breaking up, allowing the resulting particles to block the oil pick-up pipe; no need to mention what this can do. -
Car Suggestions 15 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Not really dark inside Use will be mixed short local and long family trips Vehicles I have driven and liked: Mini (the new type) Jeep Renegade Toyota Hilux Seat Mii Jaguar XJR Mercedes E class Vehicles I have driven and not liked: BMW 3 series Audi A2 Citroen AX The car will be paid for with cash and will be the main family workhorse, so should be robust and quite long lived. I had a Renegade as a hire car last year, was convinced I'd hate it and actually found it remarkably comfortable and serene to drive. -
Volkswagen Touran - Anything to be aware of when purchasing used one? 15 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Hi all, This has come to be my go-to place for any car related decisions nowadays as the most knowledgable forum :) We are looking to puchase a 7 seater (or more accurately, a 5+2) as we occassionally have to provide a lift to aging parents (who we find increasingly need our help) in addition to our family of four. We have seen a few cars (citroen c4, smax, etc) but the Touran seems to have a good blend of reliability, space and comfort. We do approx 9-10k miles a year with a blend of local nursery drop offs/pick ups during the week and then further distances on the weekend (including into Londons soon-to-be extended ULEZ) as we are active and tend to be out and about. -
Van - New van DPF dialema 7 May 2021 (Forum)
Ive asked a few people if they have had issues with their DPF's when most of the round town driving is below 40mph with alot of stop/start driving due to traffic; most of them say no their vans are fine but need to blast em now and again, So what exactly is the deal with DPF's with small vans now. I'm looking at the PSA group offerings from Peueot/Vauxhall/Citroen/Toyota, but keep asking myself if its a better idea to buy a petrol; rather than the diesel; thing is the petrol is about 3K more expensive. Does anyone have a new PSA small van and use it the majority of time around town, if so have you had DPF issues ? -
Land Rover Range Rover - Proper Reliability Test by Brand.. (Guess who is b 12 Jul 2020 (Forum)

- Low road tax/insurance bracket - Suitable for frequent motorway (well, A road) driving and occassional long distances - Ideally, costing about £4000 (this is my current budget but I'm starting to wonder if it's too small.) I've read lots of reviews, and I thought something like a Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 or Peugeot 207 might be good, but from what I've read I get the impression they aren't ideal for motorway driving. Those that are good for motorway driving are more expensive to run and cost more in general... -
Event Tyres - Recommended tyre fitters 26 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Having bought and been very pleased with a Citroen C2 LX 1.1 and later a Mazda 2 TS2 after reading the complimentary reviews on HJ, I decided to follow like advice to replace the Michelin Energy Saver tyres on my wife's C2. The tyres have performed admirably and I was going to replace them with the same but after reading some HJ tyre reviews purchased Goodyear Vector All Seasons. -

A reliable people carrier - Suggestions for a good value 7 Seater ? 20 Mar 2010 (Forum)
VW Touran - probably quite expensive, avoid the 1.6 maybe ? What of the Citroen C8 / Peugeot 806 / Fiat Ulysse triumvirate ? I recall much negative publicity about build quality and reliability but did this get sorted on later ones ? The newer Toyota Previa, not sure how cheap these will be, I'd go for the D4D myself but I guess the auto 2.4 petrols are cheaper (but thirsty) ? -
Car scrappage scheme Vol 3. [Read Only] 21 May 2009 (Forum)
I rang around different dealers 3 weeks ago to see if anyone knew about it, or was doing it. Most had no clue and all said they wont do it (at the time), except for Citroen who said they could do it on the C4 range. Now my car is off the road since end of March with no road tax and no MOT yet they said yes to giving me the £2000 off on top of the discounts they would give anyway (C4 1.6Hdi Cachet special edition for £10500). -
First Ever Diesel Hot Hatch... 17 May 2009 (Forum)
Was that merely slightly warmer than the non-turbo version and left standing by the petrol 1360cc GT, let alone the 1.6 or 1.9 GTi versions? It did lack an intercooler after all...! What about the Citroen Volcane Turbo D or the Peugeot 306 D Turbo? Both 92bhp if I recall correctly and with the 1905cc engine and the benefit of an intercooler, they were pretty brisk once the turbo was up to speed. -
Renault Laguna (1994 - 2001) - 95 2.0 M Reg - Weird wiring explanation 21 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi all Migrated from Citroen Xantia to a Renault Laguna. Its a piece of junk but for some reason I actually rather like it. With winter closing in I'd like to get the heater fan going. Zero response when you twist the fan. I've read enough on the forum to find out when the fan motor is, and I've ripped it out to test (its by the PC as I type). -
Trip around Europe - £4k vehicle? 6 Jun 2008 (Forum)
At the moment we're just browsing, looking at whatever hits our budget (about a grand each, so four grand in total) but any 'professional' input would be absolutely fantastic as none of us are honestly 100% into cars. I've been recommended to look at either a Citroen (as they're very easy to fix no matter where you end up) or something like a Mitsubishi (as the parts come cheap), but I honestly don't have a clue as to the best deal. Before we set off I should've been able to coerce my dad into helping me understand how to fix basic problems with engines, but nothing major. -
Indicators and/or mirrors - Optional or Failing? 11 Jan 2008 (Forum)
However it does worry me that Indicators and Mirrors are either optional accessories, or their is an inherent fault Should we contact the manufacturers and ask them about this common fault in their vehicles? ------------------- VW Bora (51) 2.0 SE VW Touran (54) 1.9 TDI Coming Soon: Citroen C8 2.0 HDi SX -
Mitsubishi Grandis MPV (2004 - ) - Changing a wheel 24 Nov 2007 (Forum)
It's a shame that the spare's a space saver, but then that'll remind me to get it sorted. Maybe it's like this on most cars now, but changing a wheel on the Citroen C3 we had was an ordeal, and it's nice to be able to say something good about your car. The Grandis, trim aside is a pretty good car. To me, the fact that the little details such as someone thinking "what do you do with the dirty flat tyre" makes me feel a bit better about the car as a whole. -
How does public judge reliability? 6 Jul 2007 (Forum)
We, the so called car boffins, often bash various manufactuers here especially French and Italian ones for their reliability woes. But people continue to buy Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Fiat etc. Majority of common people are also buying Vauxhalls and Fords, in spite of their not so outstanding reputation for reliability. I often see people boast that "My Corsa (or Mondeo) never broke down - so it is the best car." -
Matra Murena 2.2 - noise on start-up 22 May 2007 (Forum)
The Matra Murena has a 2.2 4-cyl Chrysler/Talbot/Simca engine (as also used in some Citroens and in the little-known Talbot Tagora). My 1983 Matra is in generally good condition, has done some 120,000 km, been regularly and routinely maintained, but has been sitting in the garage and little used over the last 3-4 years. -
Priced Off the Road 12 Jan 2007 (Forum)
He said yesterday that they were needed because of the failure of European car makers to keep to a voluntary agreement signed in 1998 to reduce emissions by 25 per cent by 2008. They have managed 13 per cent and the agreement ends next year. The Citroen C3 diesel emits exactly 120 grams of carbon per kilometre ? the average that the European Commission will set as a legal requirement for every car manufacturer's range in 2012. A supercharged Range Rover Sport V8 emits 376 grams and a five-door petrol Ford Focus 1.6 emits 184 ?
