  Tried this over on the technical board, but didn't get far..... My Picasso HDi needed a new common rail pump at 10K, my present car (Mondeo TDCi 130bhp) is running ok (at 37K), but I see some horror stories here. Lets have your opinion. Who is making the most reliable modern diesel?

  Does TMC work in the UK mine chatters to me all day in Germany and is very informative but in the UK it gives very occasional messages and never tells you about anything happening on the motorways.Is it a subscription service in the UK if so does anybody know who runs it ? (SLT to make it a bit clearer ! )

  I'm on my first 2 diesel cars 1 for me 1 for the wife. I am careful to run them in but i've done nearly 5000 miles and it doesn't feel any different. People have been on about diesel engines loosening up; what do they mean by this and when can you expect for it to loosen up?

  i have a found water coolant leak but it is dripping from the front diff so must be running from somewhere else have been told could be water pump weep hole but having trouble finding it without stripping down fan any help out there. s

  my 1.6 2003 golf engine type bfq sometimes "hunts" on coldstarts the tickover speed goes up and down slightly. as soon as i accelerate it,s o.k. The exhaust also smells slightly at tickover as if running rich. Any suggestions? s

  Hello My '52 plate 1.4 16v Clio developed a severe misfire and the engine management light came on. I've changed all four coils and the car now runs fine however the engine management light is still on. Any ideas how to get it off?

  My Astra 1.8sxi occasionally has a problem starting, more often when it is warm but can happen any time. It always starts eventually and runs perfectly. The battery is new and car recently serviced. Also is there any magic way of improving the engines compression, and could this loss of compression contribute to the starting problem.

Her policy had expired, but mine still has about a month to run, so my car is effectively covered by two policies for this time. I didn't think it would be a problem, but what would happen should I need to make a claim during this time?

  Hi I have a ford galaxy 1.9TDI 2003 and the air con gas has run out, and I have noticed halfords are now selling the gas for air con to refill it yourself but I was wondering if someone can give me help in where I find the refill valve on this car. Thanks for any help Tony

  Hi ,I have a Rover P6 3500 which runs a treat . In heavy traffic however its different story. Cutting out ,misfiring comes to mind. Leave it to cool down and im away again. Ive been told its vapour lock . New to me this is. How do i over come this please?

  I have got max no claims discount on my car,the policy has me as main driver+my wife as named driver.I am thinking of getting a second car as a run around,how does the insurance work? Can i use my max no claim or do i need to start from scratch with my second car thanks Andrew.

  The Clio 1.6 8v K7M engine does not have hydraulic tappets though valve clearances are not scheduled for checking by Renault or Haynes, Haynes say check if noisy or if running symptoms suggest to do so. Car is fine though should the clearances be checked after eight years and 43,000 miles? Thanks.

  Looking at buying a 2nd hand one of these... Any one here running one of these and can tell me about the reliability, economy, servicing costs, etc. The one I'm looking at is a 2.0D SE. Having sat in one I like the fact that it has a bit more space than an A4 and has a lot of safety gear.

  mk4 golf 1600 53 plate, when i blip the key fob and open the door i hear a electric motor run for a few seconds ....sounds like its coming from low down in the engine bay infront of the pedals any ideas what it is....i assume its perfectly normal , just like to know what things are

  Gone to change to cambelt on my 406 petrol turbo and the timing marks dont line up. Locking pin in the top pulley and the crank pulley is around 25 degrees out. The engine runs fine and always has done, what on earth could this be? Also having problems getting the aux bottom pulley off, any tips?

  My car manual states that the engine can run on up to 10% ethanol, or 5% methanol. Does anybody know where this sort of fuel is available in the UK (particularly the E10 ethanol mix)? I read somewhere that Tesco sells this, but their website doesn't say where.

  Hi, This summer I may be doing quite a lot of driving, mixture of motorway and country roads. I was just wondering which would be most economical to run a Honda Jazz 1.4 automatic or a 1.3 Escort. The Honda has a much more modern engine but the escort has very high gearing. Was just wondering everyone's opinion. Thanks
