  • What to buy? 29 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I haven't the time or inclination for an auction, so it'll be private, car supermarket, or possiby a main dealer if I can find a good deal. I'll be paying cash with no p/x. Any thoughts would be appreciated, especially from dealers or fleet managers out there.
  • Used Market Petrol v Diesel Study 12 Sep 2011 (Forum)
For the fuel price section i am working on an unleaded price of 139.9p per litre and a diesel price of 144.9p per litre. When fuel cost numbers come out at slightly under a round number i shall round up, so if something comes to £1398 i will call it £1400 for example.

  • Chevrolet Epica - Chevrolet Epica diesel 1 year on 12 Aug 2011 (Forum)
(PS, Pentagon, you ARE forgiven) Fuel economy has averaged around 40mpg (big heavy car) and better than 45mpg motorways to london, which we do once a month. 2nd year service cost at vauxhall network Q here in carmarthen extremely well carried out, and cost just  £99 inc vat + parts +oil total was about £217 oil. air and fuel filters all changed, and brake fluid changed too. car left spotlessly clean too!
  • Any. - Reasonably priced reliable commuter vehicle. 9 Aug 2014 (Forum)
In addition each of my diesel cars have had major breakdowns (diesel related) that have cost a fortune to put right. ( negating any fuel saving and more) My wife has a fiesta ecoboost that is fantastic and I can manage 50-55 mpg on my commute but will cost more than I'm willing to spend. My main requirements are a car under 4 years old that has 5 doors, air con, ESP, a full array of airbags and a reasonable boot.
  • Continental Jottings 19 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Cheapest diesel in all 4 countries was Belgium @ 83 cents a litre; the rest were nearer 1 euro. Note that, on a Sunday and public holidays, almost all garages off the autoroutes sell fuel from unmanned forecourts which accept bank notes and may, or may not, accept UK issued debit and credit cards. 4. No evidence of the dreaded French police checking beam deflectors, reflective jackets etc. 5.

  • Hyundai i30 GDI Turbo petrol - Petrol particulate filters 25 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I promptly hit the motorway and  after 30 minutes, to my relief, the warning light eventually went out.   I’ve been using regular petrol (not supermarket) and I’m now going to switch to BP Ultimate with a weekly Italian tune-up on the motorway to keep the filter clear. In the circumstances, it seems to contradict the fuel saving devices fitted to the car.
  • Buying a new car - Volkswagen or Skoda? 19 Nov 2013 (Ask HJ)

  • VW Golf 1.8 timing question 21 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, I have a 1996 "N" registed VW Golf 1.8SE with the ADZ engine and single-point Bosch Monotronic fuel injection. Yesterday, I took it to my local independent garage for its annual service, and I mentioned to the proprietor that it was pinking on acceleration (and I don't use supermarket petrol).
  • Toyota Yaris 1.5 - 10,000 miles on 1 Dec 2019 (Forum)
This problem was intermittent. Seemed to be less of a problem when running on Shell V power and it didn’t like supermarket fuels. Never had a car before which ran noticeably better on one fuel that another. Had to take my time changing from 1st to 2nd gear to prevent crunching. This meant that despite its 111hp, it was a slow car to pull away with.
  • Help please with Ford diesel 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The story is that at the start of this year he purchased an exactly three year old Mondeo diesel, 2 litres. The car was purchased from a small scale car supermarket and was an ex lease car with a full Ford service history and nothing untoward in the documentation. He also bought a 12 month warranty with it (not from Ford). The car has done about 60thousand miles.
  • Dacia Sandero 1.2 Access - Dacia Sandero 1.2 Access Review 7 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Slight hampered by its low gearing, although nowhere near as bad as my previous i10. Fuel consumption started at 46.6mpg whilst running it in on its first tank of fuel (£50 from reserve to full at £1.289p p/litre) and then rose to a steady 48-49mpg ever since.  I always exceed the manufactuer's consumption figures, which is a pleasant surprise considering I thought it would cost me more in fuel than my previous Hyundai i10.
  • anyone heard about this??!! 2 Jun 2003 (Forum)
\"There are real questions whether or not someone needs a two-and-a-half tonne, 22-gallon vehicle to nip down to Tesco\'s or take the kids to school.\" Mr Baker continued: \"The consequences of ever-increasing use of these vehicles means that other road users often feel intimidated, pedestrians and cyclists certainly do, use of fossil fuels increases dramatically, and our small urban towns, particularly historic towns, are being overwhelmed in some cases by these vehicles.\" SMMT spokesman Al Clarke said: \"There is a danger of victimisation here.
  • Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi - Intermittant judder problems 40-60mph range 6 Aug 2022 (Forum)
The last 1,300+ miles have been run using BP or BP Ultimate Diesel rather than supermarket fuels in my own attempt to flush out any potential problems. Car still exhibits same symptoms.

  • Advice on my next car 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Just thinking of changing my car. In a fit of madness, I bought a 3 door 2005 Polo Twist SDI in 2006 from a car supermarket with the idea that I was going to be frugal, saving a fortune in fuel and tax but ended up buying a barge that can be easily overtaken by a milk float. I'm not a petrol head, but i supposed I was slightly swayed at the time by the the fact that it was the 'newest' car I had ever bought and the reputation of german reliability.
